History

Established in 1967.

The Church of Scientology of Buffalo, first established in 1967, is expanding in order to meet an increasing demand for Dianetics and Scientology services and to better meet the needs of the Buffalo community.

The Church has moved to its new home at 836 Main Street — the former Buffalo Public Library building on the southwest corner of Virginia and Main — following many months of parishioner-​supported renovations and restoration to the 110-​year-​old Buffalo landmark.

All members of the community are welcome to tour the newly restored facility and see what has been done to return this historical city treasure to its original splendor and beyond.

The Church’s convenient location and extensive facilities in the 6-​story, airy building are ideally suited for meetings, conferences, weddings and banquets, and are available to the public.

Rude aggressive people patrolling Virginia Street and Main Street. They literally get in your face, don’t let you walk away. They say stupid things like…“do you have anxiety? Are you in a bad relationship? Are you struggling at work? We can help you. Just come inside and watch this 20 minute video”. Are you kidding me?!! Who DOESNT have or has had all of those issues at one point or another. The guy patrols up and down the streets like a vulture harassing everyone that walks by. Sometimes I have to walk all the way around the block to avoid running into them. Buddy were just trying to go about our business and not be annoyed by you in our faces. Do yourself a favor and go inside. Leave the hardworking people in Allentown alone! No one wants to hear it! Be wary when you are in the area. They bum rush you.

The Church of Slight Apologies is where they say sorry every time they annoy you, but only in a half-​arsed way and they don’t really mean it.
However this church is, well, worse. I’m not someone who has any sort of negative prejudice about religion. I’m not religion, and am well aware of all the good that religion has done around the world… and all the heinous bad, too. Who am I to lump Scientology in with any other action or religion just because Tom Cruise is a good looking loud mouth on TV.
I came here for a music performance before I became a professional musician. They had an «open mic.» Okay, so great. I ran into my producer here too. He also was doing the open mic. So far, so good.
However, before the performance, there was all kinds of «insight into our church» and «induction» and some weird electric-​shock-​testing thing… which freaked both of us out, to be honest. And all of that is totally fine and would not even remotely affect the rating except for one thing:
I found it deceitful. In the newspaper they advertised that it was an open mic. So you get there to perform, and then it turns out the whole thing is one big elaborate put-​on to try and induct some folks into the Church, and the music is sort of a smokescreen to draw you in.
I was pretty annoyed about it, and left. Went in with no opinion of Scientology. Left with the opinion that they’re a little sneaky and deceitful with the «luring people in» thing. But then I suppose that is true of other Churches too. Not all, but certainly plenty.
