History

Established in 2012.

Owned by the husband-​and-​wife team, Dan Locche and Brenda Alesii, Straight Up Wines & Liquors opened in December 7, 2012. They wanted to be sure that they incorporated the best of what they have experience in the retail world: Excellent customer service, a good variety, cleanliness, competitive pricing, and a well-​trained, welcoming staff. From the moment the doors opened, special discounts have been offered to those who serve the community: police, fire, medical and service veterans receive discounts on all purchases. There’s still a great liquor store in Kenmore!

Dan and his wife, Brenda, co-​own Straight Up. A Navy veteran, Dan is also Director of Public Affairs for the Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors. Brenda is a sales representative for Entercom Communications, the media corporation which owns a number of prominent local radio stations including WBEN, WGR and Star. She is also the author of Brenda’s Bites, a web page featuring reviews of locally-​owned restaurants, and host of the WWKB radio show of the same name.

This is a good local liquor store. It may not be as big as some others in the area, but it has its own charm. The staff are knowledgable and eager to help. I stopped in recently for champagne for a holiday party. I asked the girl at the counter «where do you keep your cheapest finest champagne?» And she pointed me to the correct aisle. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized she’d followed me over and started explaining that the prices went up depending on the shelf and ran from dry to sweet as you go down the row. I didn’t ask for her help beyond pointing me at the champagne, but she went a little bit further to make sure I got what I needed. If you buy wine or liquor on a regular basis I’d suggest signing up for their loyalty program as you can earn discounts relatively quickly and they even give you a $ 10 credit for your birthday.

Everything about this place is pleasant and convenient! The staff is extremely helpful and makes you feel like they are there to serve you… not the other way around! It’s nice to go to a Liquor store where I don’t have to walk around for a half hour to find what I need!

Horrible selection of prime spirits. There’s this great renaissance going on in America where everyone is drinking whiskey/​bourbon again and the variety at this place is sub par. If you’re looking for a wide selection of bourbon, you’re pretty much SOL here.
Also, I usually like it when staff can be helpful, but at this joint, the staff is borderline annoying.
Incidentally, their advertising is incredibly misleading. Claiming that there «is still a great liquor store in Kenmore» is a bit of a stretch, seeing as how the liquor store they claim to be replacing was located in the Town of Tonawanda.
If you’re running late to a party and need to pick up a cheap wine or a mixer, this place is a good choice, but for an everyday liquor establishment, there are plenty of better choices.

I love the location of this liquor store because it’s right in the middle of Kenmore. The family that owns it is local to Kenmore, so I definitely love supporting them by stopping by here whenever I need wine or liquor for any occasion. For being such a small location, they have a wide variety of wines and liquors. Some wines are chilled in the back, but most are out on display. They also have a couple of rows of liquors. At the registers they have wine and martini glasses that have neat designs on them, and they have little nips for sale by the registers too.
If you have any questions about types of wine to get, the employees are more than happy to help and walk with you to show you different wines they have available that suit your needs. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area!

not a very good selection of spirits. could work in a pinch. prices are more expensive than most stores. a quick drive up the street to butlers is a better solution
