The Original Soup Man

Soup good. Service… not so good. I have wanted to try this place for a while and went for lunch on a chilly day when I was craving a warm cup of soup. There was a soup special that came with a soup, (bowl or cup), side salad or sandwich, piece of bread, a banana and a drink. I choose shrimp corn chowder and my husband choose a chicken poblano soup. Both soups were very good, warm, creamy and satisfying. We finished our soups and waited for our salad and sandwich to come out. And we waited. And then we waited some more. It was not that busy and my husband was getting antsy. We finally said something and the person at the counter apologized and said she forgot. I don’t know what their order system is, but there was a breakdown somewhere. We asked for our items to go as we needed to move along. In the bag were two more bananas, so we now had 4 bananas, really didn’t want any bananas — a choice of fruit would be nice. I will give this place another try because I do love soup.

Just had an incredible lunch. Did the soup and sandwich and wow, both were awesome. I chose shrimp corn chowder and the ham and cheese. The sandwich was so full of meat I had to bring half of it home with me. I am up in the area on business and will certainly come back.

Had some time to kill before a meeting tonight and deduced to check out this place. The service was awesome! The girl delivered my meal to me and was very friendly! I ordered a combo with a wrap and soup… This also came with a beverage, a roll and a banana! What a great deal– all about $ 10!!! The food was good– nothing any more fantastic than anywhere else but definitely worth stopping in!

Never knew this restaurant existed, so having experienced it, I’ll be back. The tomato basil soup and the side salad were both delicious and a good sizes. I was too full to eat my banana that accompanied it. The service was excellent by the attentive and friendly owner.

I stopped in with a couple co-​workers for lunch during the week. We all got the Souper Special which came with a cup of soup and «half» of a sandwich. I had the potato bacon soup, which was full of potato chunks and quite tasty. I went with the turkey panini which came with plenty of turkey, provolone, and roasted red pepper. Though it was listed as a half sandwich with the special, the sandwich was huge! Some of us ended up taking half of our sandwiches home. The staff were super friendly and accommodating! Definitely recommend this restaurant for a quick and filling lunch.

I was so excited for the first cold day in Buffalo and couldn’t wait to have some hot soup! My first experience was with the chili. It was great… better than Moms (shhhh, don’t tell). I had been eyeing up the pot roast soup and decided to give it a shot. When I opened the lid I was overwhelmed with the delish aroma of beef and spices. That was the end of my good experience. I had (maybe) 3 pieces of meat in my entire bowl. Although tastey, I expect more for the $ 8 pricetag. My bowl was filled with onions. Might as well have called it frozen onion salt soup. The small amount of carrot and potatoe, along with the onion, tasted like they came out of a freezer bag. I was so disappointed. I may give this place another shot. Just one more.

What a fine operation. Like in the X-​Files Season Two episode «Our Town», it was almost a little *too* good, but here, «good people, good food» only means that the food and people are just that — good. No, great. The people especially. A man with excellent hair was working. Perhaps he’s the owner, and a good one at that, because he was genuinely pleasant and possibly the nicest person in the universe. Even if the food was not excellent and reasonable, it would have been a good experience because of this large-​haired fellow.
Since I referenced the X-​Files, you can probably tell that I’m hard to please, like the mom who googles each item on an ingredient list followed by «GMO» and «Frankenfood.» But I tell you what, gentle reader; I was pleased. Durn tootin, so much so that I could not choose between the four soups. One of them was pot roast. What an idea! But really, they all sounded so wonderful that I should probably have gotten them all. I ended up with Baja Chicken. I don’t even know what makes chicken Baja, but I loved that soup.
Soup hypothesis!
People don’t eat a lot of soup anymore, do they? Maybe it’s because of all the canned soups that we’ve had, which are acceptable. And so a true, thick, meaty soup like the ones at TOSM get short shrift, relegated to the chump-​ass category that we’re used to. No. These soups are better. They are worth your time and a category all their own. So too is the man who serves them.
Something special is going on in the humble Georgetown Square, and I recommend you find out.

How can you possibly give the original soup man anything less than a 5 star rating? If you do, then there may be something wrong with you. It’s an absolutely wonderful place and it taste great. Be nice when you walk in, or «No soup for you». Okay, that may not be true, but I just wanted to say it!

I had a BCBS «two for one» dining card for here and after being rudely denied by a different restaurant for the same type thing (Not an Original Soupman), I called first to see if they would allow me to use my card for take out since it said «dine in only» in the fine print. The guy over the phone said «absolutely» and didn’t have any problem with that. He did state the menu online is different than the one in store as it varies by location so he recommended I stopped in to check their menu to place my order. I was in the area so it wasn’t inconvenient but I can see for people in a hurry it may be time consuming to drive there then wait for the order to be made.
I ordered 2 different chicken wraps, and the price is average for the size of wrap they were. I was also given fresh bananas for sides without even knowing so it was a pleasant surprise. I felt like the price was even more worth it. And the best part was its a healthy option… I wasn’t given an overload of greasy chips like most other sandwich place sides.
The service was great! The guy in there was very helpful and patient with me and my indecisiveness. He checks your meal out and makes it too. It wasn’t busy when I was there but if it ever would be you can sit and watch tv in their dining area while you’re awaiting your order to be ready.
The wraps were delicious, the chicken very tender, and the ingredients complimented each other well. It’s a nice stop for a healthy lunch. The soup flavors sounded so good, gonna have to definitely try one out next time!

This was the perfect spot for a quick meal today! When you’re stuck in Amherst traffic you can pull into the plaza and there’s plenty of parking.
My partner and I both ordered soup and salads and organic ice tea. Our meals came with bread and bananas! We got plenty of food for a fair price.
I ordered the lobster bisque soup and the Mediterranean salad. The soup was very flavorful and the salad was fresh and delicious. My partner ordered the pepper steak soup which was super healthy along with the tasty goat cheese salad.
That was all topped with excellent, friendly customer service :)
Definitely recommend and would go again!

My husband and I stop in here occasionally as it’s close to home and convenient for a quick meal and much more appetizing than the other fast food type options in the area.
As far as what to order, I find it all depends on the day since the soups change — I’m a big fan of the chicken gumbo but on days when they don’t have it, I’m bummed. When in doubt, go turkey brie on a baguette. It is massive and so, so delicious — made to order while you wait. You can get a whole sandwich (it’s more like a sub in size!) and a drink for $ 8.
Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy soups and sandwiches — the staff are always super friendly and helpful, and the ambiance is nice.

I have been here several times within the past decade and I have consistently been impressed with the quality of food that I have received when I came to the restaurant. Even the little things that they give out with the meal are delicious like the Apple and the roll. I ordered a chicken gumbo soup which almost took me to cloud nine. Chunks of flavor in every bite! I was so extremely impressed with what I was putting into my mouth

Interesting little place. Definitely feels like a little franchise and maybe a little out of place here. The soup was good. They have an interesting variety, though it didn’t seem very diverse. A lot of the same types of soups. Their sandwiches are also decent. Nothing extremely special about this place, prices aren’t too bad. Felt a little out of place in the area.

Wassoup, guys, welcome to my souper-​positive review about this lunch, dinner and soupper joint, which is trying to soupplant other local souperies, and is soup and coming, for sure.
No more soup for you! Or in this case, for me, because I wasn’t cray cray (Korean BBQ style) about the soup here. I got the Mulligatawny (I think) because it was what he recommended… it was a little fruity and nutty, it reminded me of the stuff the British used to make, and call curry, which I didn’t like, when I was a kid… but it was better than that. Interesting and edible, but not my style, and nothing I would get again. Perhaps I would like another soup better.
I did think the concept here was great though and he’s obviously an excellent chef and I think if a lot of people (especially soupies… which are like foodies, only specifically for soup), would try this place, that they would fall in love with it. I’m not really a soupie, but I will go back and try this place again sometime and see if a different soup is more to my taste. The guy is friendly and smart, and it’s a nice environment too. He’s very helpful with the menu. He’s proud of what he makes and rightly so. The prices are a little high but that’s what you get when you’re in Williamsville, homies.
Souprise souprise.

My brother and myself stumbled upon this soup place that’s hidden away in the plaza along Evans. Great value for freshly cooked soups. We had a soup that was fully packed with fiber and protein. Salads and sandwiches are well prepared and in my opinion, prepared at the right meal size. Justin, the owner was also friendly, helpful and so kind towards us. I definitely will go back and recommend to others to go try this little joint.

Had mozarela and tomato basil panini. Disgusting! Slow swrvice. Very slow. Recommenfation: disgusting, don’t even try it

I went to the soup man for my first time yesterday. I left work early b/​c I was super sick. Soup man is on my way home, so I figured some good soup will help me feel better!
The girls behind the counter were super friendly. I went with the quart of chicken vegetable. It was so delicious! Not like a traditional chicken vegetable. This had Brussel sprouts, yellow squash, and all sorts of amazing veggies in it. I actually ate the whole quart myself in one sitting! Lol.
I think they are a little pricey, it was $ 21.70 for a quart of soup. But I will be back to try all the other flavors of soup they offer.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!! UMM… YES SOUP FOR ME!!! Very good soup for me. Although pricey this establishment offers some of the friendliest service around and a great produce. I especially like the fact you get a fruit and a piece of chocolate along with a little piece of a roll to enjoy with your soup. Good luck finding a place to sit and eat during a lunch rush as the place is tiny however I find it perfect. Soup man is nestled in a plaza where you could drive by 100 times and still not know it is there. So next time you are in the area HIT THE BRAKES!!! and try the soup. Justin the proprietor is a great guy.

After today, I think I’ve realized what defines a 5-​star rating from me. It’s when I eat something and immediately the first thing that comes to my mind is that I need this recipe. Cue the Mulligatawny, which I knew nothing of until today, but was referenced many-​a-​time on Seinfeld as Kramer’s favorite soup from the infamous Soup Nazi. A google search later and I was thrown into a cult-​level following of this Anglo-​Indian recipe made of chicken, potatoes, eggplant, apples, mango, cashew, and loads more. On first glance, that’s a WTF of ingredients but blend that with Indian spices and you have a hearty, savory, crunchy soup (yes it’s possible) and arguably the best I’ve ever had.
Round that out w/​a piece of bread, a sandwich/​wrap/​panini (I went w/​oven roasted turkey but next time, I’m sticking w/​the Asian Chicken wrap), apple, chocolate, and a home-​brewed unsweetened iced tea all for under $ 10. And I love the Soup Man’s response when I asked him about the lemonade that’s on the menu and he replies that he got rid of it b/​c it had too much sugar and he didn’t want to give more people diabetes… that’s my kind of dude right there.

My daughter was in town and we wanted to have a quick bite for dinner after dropping my son off at a school activity and having to pick him up an hour and a half later. After much discussion and no decision we decided to use the «olé decision maker» (aka «Entertainment Book»). Chinese? Nah. Pizza? Nah. Soup and a sandwich? BINGO!
This place is cute, small and cozy with about six tables and a counter to order at. It’s one of those places where you place your order, pay, and then pick it up on a tray a few minutes later.
We were informed that the soup choices change daily and I think there were eight to choose from when we were there. The ones I remember were corn chowder, broccoli cheddar, lentil, crab bisque, and beef goulash. There’s also a bunch of sandwiches (regular, paninis and wraps) and quite a few salads to choose from.
We opted for «combo meals» which include a choice of soup and half a sandwich and a beverage. We both had the corn chowder (my daughter and I are very compatible in our soup choices) and it was DELICIOUS. Nice and chunky and with an interesting spice flavor. Was it curry? I’m not sure, but whatever it was, it worked. The only negative is that it could have been a tad hotter. I like my soup steaming.
We parted ways at our sandwich choices with my daughter having a chicken panini (which she LOVED) and me having a tuna wrap which, in my humble opinion, was PERFECT. Nice white tuna… not too much mayo, lettuce, onions, celery, and carrots. I do have a question though… We were supposed to have half a sandwich with our «combos» and I DID have a half, but my daughter was given a WHOLE sandwich. Why her and not me? I know she’s way younger and way cuter… but it made me kind of sad.
The beverage we both chose was iced green tea (tasty). All meals come with a piece of french bread and butter, a piece of fruit (apples when we were there, but we were told sometimes bananas), and a little square of (very good) chocolate. YUM!
