Gourmet 88 Burbank

Have been going to this place for like 11 years. The service was never top caliber BUT it was decent. In the last 3 – 4 years that has swiftly declined!!! Just today, we went for lunch and we were not even done eating when the server came to pack us up and give us our check! Unacceptable to rush people while eating! No tip given of course cause if that wasn’t enough he also didn’t even offer to refill our drinks or just plain show us any common courtesy! HORRIBLE

The service was fast the lunch special price is good and the interior is nice. Now maybe I’m a Chinese food snob but I like my chicken to be made with white meat no fat no bone not chewy, it’s not. If you like chewy dark meat with fat and bone then this is the place for you. The hot and spicy soup was extremely pungent not good. The egg roll was mushy inside not sure what was in it. I almost felt like we were being punished from ordering from the lunch special menu!

Gourmet 88 is a gem, especially when you get to meet the owner Sam. He is very courteous and patient to his customers, which I can tell you is not a given in the restaurant business. I came for a graduation event, and would come back again. My favorite dish by far was the shrimp fried rice, and it was served by waiters with a charming and cute sense of humor. The chef even made a special that was not on the menu just for the event for my friend! I’m looking forward to when I’m next in the area, and I hope Gourmet 88 continues to be as good as it is.

An exception– When you’re hungover. This food will definitely taste gourmet then.

Came here a couple times this month and I’m very satisfied. Very friendly employees. Food is great and come in very large portions. Definitely coming here again!

I would pass for dinner unless you have an incredible craving for their Mongolian chicken (white meat). Which is the only item that I found quite adequate. The check-​in free egg roll didn’t taste freshly made. More like a store bought frozen item. Their soup dumpling (XLB) barely had much broth. Kinda forgettable. Their complimentary hot tea was really watered down. But the blandest (worst) dish was the pineapple fried rice — avoid at all cost for $ 10. It’s a waste of money and not worth all the starch. Unlike the pineapple fried rice, I’ve had at the Thai restaurant.
The service served our needs, even though I had to remind the waiter 3x for the hot tea. Our waiter came to our table twice, to re-​fill the water and check up on us. A sign of decent service.
Gourmet 88 looked enticing from the outside in DT Burbank, but the interior could use a make-​over. Especially their carpet it’s a real eye sore. But I did like the booths it reminded me of a diner. The generic factory made paintings doesn’t really add much character. Management should seriously consider hanging local fine artists.
Like some of the Unilocalers here I probably won’t return. Even with a discounted Living Social deal.

Gourmet my @$$…the hot green tea is a pot of water with a tea bag! Crispy Noodles are potato strings with a few pieces of meat (I ordered the shrimp) over it with NO sauce. Panda Express is better than this over priced junk! Save your money!

Been coming here for Years! (13yrs) Never been disappointed they have the BEST Pan fried Dumplings!
I have tried everything, we have had many family gatherings on special occasions. The fam loves minced chicken lettuce wraps, wonton soup, walnut shrimp, orange beef, braised green beans. I gotta stop writing cause am getting hungry just thinking about it.

I recently moved to Burbank and was looking for a good inexpensive Chinese restaurant that I could frequent. I saw this one while walking by and was determined to go back. I finally got the chance and have eaten there three times already.
Their menu is very broad and involved but it does have all the basics as well as some extras. I ordered the salt and pepper shrimp and was very happy to know that they were pre peeled.
Their soups are great and their dumplings are full of flavor.
I am not a fan of their wontons at all but that is something I can do without since they have so many other good qualities.
I would love to go back when they have dim sum and try the different items. It was clean and the servers are very attentive.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in town!

We held a private reception here to celebrate my daughter’s baptism. We booked a room in the back with two tables, and it was perfect for up to 26 people (13 per table). They gave us a banquet menu to choose from when we booked it. There were different «packages» to choose from, and we were given the option to substitute any items. We worked with the manager Dennis, and he was very accommodating. The pricing was also very reasonable. The food was pretty good. Not amazing, but good. The bathrooms were pretty dirty, but the dining areas were pretty clean. The servers were also very attentive, and we had a great reception for our daughter. Thank you, Gourmet 88!
4 stars for great customer service and decent food.

Good food… staff not overly friendly.
Take out is not as good as dine in and catering is even worse.
Overall, good dine in food, just don’t expect the staff of be overly friendly. More of a quiet dining experience.

I come here sometime to get a lunch special. It’s always very filling and satisfying. Consumer service is always really good.

Gourmet 88 is a solid 3 ½ stars. Really yummy food, decently priced but bad service.
I tried the lunch special with the tasty and spicy fish and fried rice. Comes with a soup, wonton and egg roll. The fish came with green beans and was very good. Fresh and flavorful. If you like spice ask for the chilly paste to add to your meal.
Service was very slow and they were not busy. Had to ask several times for the same thing.
Overall I tink this may just be a good place for delivery and not much of a dine in spot.

From now, I do not want to go to Panda Express.
I got Orange beef? some thing red and a bit spicy.
It was what I have been looking for.
Price was not bad.
$ 8.99 Orange beef? comes with fried dumplings (I guess) and rice.

The last time I stepped foot at this establishment was almost 3 years ago, and it’s nice to come back after all this time and see that for the most part, nothing has changed. everything I liked about gourmet 88 – the friendly staff, the swiftness of bringing our orders to the table, was still the same good quality customer service.
I started with the hot green tea and it was exactly what I needed to start my meal. I came in here craving their Hot Braised Sliced Fish and Chow Mein and it was as savory and tasty as ever. We also ordered the Mongolian Beef and it was delicious! I will miss your delicious comfort food once I move!

Food was a 5. Dumplings were raw. Fish was average and sweet and sour chicken was chewy.
Rice was good! Limited wine selection.
Place was a 3. Dated and a little hmmm not pretty.
Service was a 6. Prompt and polite, but not particularly friendly or informed (when I asked about sake selections… They said ‘you can pick hot or cold’.)
Honestly, the 3 stars were generous!

Kids love the chicken and corn soup. I love the hot and sour soup. Waiters friendly and attentive. Steamed pork dumpling and pan fried dumplings were very tasty. Orange chicken, fish with broad bean sauce, salt and pepper pork chops, chicken chow mien, salt and pepper calamari all had great flavored. Definitely coming back again.
Also, desserts we had chocolate mint and chocolate raspberry ice creams. DELICIOUS!

Had a groupon voucher and that’s really the only reason I actually stopped here. I have seen it before but I live closer to Chinatown, so prefer my spots.
Place was not full but the waiter service seemed slow, at times the bus boy was more helpful.
Tried the salt & pepper pork chop, way less then I have been served before and for a higher price.
My girl and I tried the chicken and snowpeas and Kung Pao Chicken. Both plates came with either fried rice or white rice plus a egg roll.
Upon Unilocal check in you get a egg roll appetizer that comes with 4 vegetable egg rolls for free.
Parking was $ 5 at the bank parking lot right behind the restaurant or you can walk a bit more and pay nothing.
Try the place out for yourself, expect to pay a few bucks more per dish, it’s on San Fernando Road, rent must be high.

I just realized I’ve been here a few times with my husband but never actually reviewed it. This time we came on a Friday night, and I have no idea what we were thinking. We all know how ridiculously overcrowded it gets in that area on a weekend. The other times we’ve gone to this restaurant it’s always a hit or miss. I guess the chef was in a good mood that night.
Con’s: Parking is always a big issue anytime you come to Burbank. Apparently it’s the new «it» place for all them youngins! LoL! Plus the Straight Out of Compton movie came out that night so it was all kinds of crazy in Burbank that night. Menu is a little pricey.
Pro’s: The food is tasty. I don’t think they use MSG since I didn’t get a headache after the meal. The staff is friendly and attentive. The a la carte portions are adequate. Plenty of seating so you’ll never have to wait long for a table on a regular night.
