Junk For Joy Halloween & Vintage

I dropped by and bought some really cool vintage unique items and the price was excellent and items are so unique and wonderful I love this place it’s my new place!

I love the girls that work here! I came in really quickly to see what was new and wasn’t planning on buying anything at all. But I realized I didn’t bring a coat with me, and it was very, very cold; so salesgirl Holly said she knew of the perfect coat in the back room that would fit me. It was a match made in heaven the minute I put it on and Kathleen gave me a phenomenal deal on it! Such a well made, quality coat, we thought it was from the 60s but upon closer examination I actually think it’s 20s or 30s!!! My kind of era!
On Halloween they also helped me find a priest outfit. Fit like a glove and the price was once again phenomenal. It was such a hit!
Thank you girls! Never underestimate what you can find in this shop and take home with you!

I bought a real cute black kitty cat snapback hat, socks and vintage clothing here. I enjoyed my time looking through everything and the prices are reasonable. Its a great place to find vintage clothing, toys, costumes, make up, clothing, shoes and theirs tons of stuff to see and buy. I highly recommend checking out Junk For Joy Halloween & Vintage store!

My boyfriend and I needed clothing for a 60s party. The owner and her mom were tremendously helpful and friendly. We found everything we needed including accessories. We’ll be back!

The new owners at JFJ are wonderful! Amazing selection of costumes and the owner Kathleen is just fantastic! Any type of costume you need they can put it together. Fair prices and excellent customer service!

I stopped in here while waiting for my boyfriend to get his hair cut down the street. It’s definitely heavy in content in the windows. One of the ladies at another store told me to check it out.
I was very unsure what I could find. There was so much stuff everywhere: on racks, shelves, drawers, stands, and hanging. The list goes on.
There is just everything you could imagine. While I couldn’t find what I wanted the lady working there had shown me a great variety of items. The cost for each item was well priced. She had items most vintage stores won’t have.
I think it’s a quaint store and if you need anything actually retro retro, go to this store. It’s a bang for your buck. The customer service is through the roof.

Helped me get a awesome costume together

I loved this place! The owner is amazing she has a lot of knowledge about time periods and styles. Defiantly a must see!!! I can’t highlight how nice they are, they didn’t care if we were too picky with the costumes.

I went in yesterday, looking for a 70’s style outfit for my girlfriends party. I’m not much of a shopper when having to piece together a costume. So I asked Katherine, the new owner if she would help me. Within a few minutes, I was trying on the cutest leisure suits. She had a few to choose from, and was more than happy to help me. I had a certain budget and her prices were more than fair. I left feeling like I was well treated, I got a darling outfit, and felt that my business was appreciated. Not only was Katherine helpful, she seemed genuinely happy to assist me. Her store is very clean, well organized, and I am happy to go back again. In fact, I am all about bringing back polyester!

We had a few last minute items we were looking for a costume on Friday night, and decided to run over here before our usual stop in It’s a Wrap. Am I glad that we did! The three ladies working on Friday night could not have been more helpful! After reading other reviews, I see that there is new ownership (which sounds like a good thing!). We could not get over that all three of them were trying to help us find what we needed (a white veil) and showed us a number of things, even checking in back for us. We also found angel wings as we were getting ready to check-​out, and one of the ladies made an effort to come over and show us the variety they had, told us pricing, got them out of us, etc. If we would not have been in such a hurry, I would loved to have looked around more but… I’ll be back! In the end, we only spent less than $ 20 on our little purchase. They take credit cards (if your purchase is over $ 15). They have everything in this place, hats, dresses, jewelry, ties. Fun, fun, fun!
There are a number of similar stores on Magnolia, but none that have the customer service that these nice ladies provide! Check them out!

I was having a hard time finding a red slimline bowtie for a costume for a show that night. After having no luck after two days, a friend suggested I check out Junk for Joy. Not only did they have what I was looking for — they had both clip-​on and pre-​tied versions. And the price was great!
The people in the shop were super helpful and courteous, and couldn’t have been nicer! Next time I need to get a costume piece or something rare or a little off the beaten path, this is where I’m going first.

The new owner of this shop is very sweet and kind. I remember going here several years before and did not care for the owner, but the new lady who took over the shop is very helpful and got me exactly what I needed. I came inside this shop thinking it was still owned by the same lady but was pleasantly surprised. The shop is still very much the same, they do a lot of costuming as have racks of vintage clothing mostly from the 60s-​90s. This is not what I was seeking, so I asked the owner if she had anything from the 1930s-​50s. I remembered with the previous owner, she always kept he older items in back to keep them safe, which is totally understandable since the shop does not normally specialize in vintage this old. The lady told me she had some early dresses and brought a few out. She brought out a particularly nice one with, a 1930s beautiful floral print. I loved it, I tried it on and bought it. It was $ 40 which is really reasonable for a 1930s dress in good condition. The owner was very helpful in responding to all my questions. I recommend visiting this place.

I am a costumer and also own a costume shop. The Junk for Joy staff has helped me so many times, shipping things overnight for my clients. They understand costume history, terminology, distinct eras of each century and have an amazing selection. It takes years of experience, movie knowledge and love of history.
Having read all the other reviews, the general public doesn’t understand how few costume shops are left and how hard of a business it is. Soon we will all be gone.
The previous owners had an annual summer party to kick off the Halloween season, all costumers came together and celebrated the upcoming holiday. We shared our vintage inventories and stories about unique requests. in the early 1990’s their was at least 50 costumers in attendance. 2012 was our last get together their was 5 of us left. We toasted our 30 years of friendship, love of costumes and the craziness of our chosen profession.
My apologies To all the people who felt watched like a hawk, the shoplifting is uncontrollable and people feel entitled to steal. We are defenseless. They come in groups and keep coming back until they get what they want. Sorry to all the nice people… we are just trying to protect our inventory.
Old clothes can’t always be washed or the fabrics are natural fibers. The amount of damage to clothing from hands who have just eaten fries, ice cream or holding a drink. You can’t see the damage but it is their. Fabric can’t be wiped clean it is permanently stained especially from cheetos, popcorn and other chips.
Thank you for understanding, the incredible challenges the costume industry is under right now. Shops Trying to be survive and also servicing the local industry which is declining as we speak.
Please support small independents. We are not perfect but love our craft.

I like the owner and her mom, they helped my find things for a 1930’s style wedding. I am plus size and the first dress I tried on there was a perfect fit. It is a bit busy and cluttered but they probably have what you are looking for, vintage and vintage inspired things.

It was nice to drive all the way down an hour to find the doors closed, no hours posted anywhere, not even online. Called the number to have no info given there as well. For a business that ha seen around 37 years that’s pretty poor biz skills if you ask me.

This store is a mess… but in a good way. There are so many things to look at it does get a little overwhelming. However, they usually have sales going on.
Right now they have a bunch of ugly Christmas sweaters for 50% off.
This place is not fancy by all means but if you dig around you might find junk that brings some joy :)

This place is just fine… They have a good selection but it’s a little overpriced if you ask me. 25 – 30 $ for a tutu seems a little over-​reaching. But the staff was helpful.

This place is great! As a resident of Burbank and a costume and wardrobe hunter, Junk For Joy is always the first place I stop. I have become friends with the owners! They always try to help me find unique or unusual items. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the pieces. Some products are geared for the wear-​it-​once crowd, but many items they acquired are now treasures in my collection! Rare and one-​of-​a-​kind!!! This is the kind of store you would find near Melrose, but without the hassle!
I get at least ten calls in October… «hey Tim, where can I find???» Before they finish I recommend Junk for Joy!!! Never heard a single complaint from a friend I’ve referred.
Great nearby vintage shops and Mom Pop type restaurants! One of the many reasons I absolutely love Burbank!!!

I require a service animal. I had just been discriminated against at Encore Noveau, and had just regained composure. When I walked into the store, the woman told me that my dog wasn’t allowed. Following the ADA, Federal, and Service Animal guidelines, I identified the animal as being service. She said she didn’t care, and that it was her store. I also tried to inform her about the ADA web site, and requested that she review it before addressing me in the manner in which she was. She didn’t care, and told me to leave her store. Sweet! Is this a Burbank thing? I mean what’s up with the judgment? I will be reporting both businesses, as they weren’t even willing to listen to me, or hear me out. I’ve been through enough, so no thank you.

Note to business owners: Please drop the «Vintage» and re-​name the store simply «Junk for Joy Halloween».
My poor rating is due to the fact that this store portrays itself as a vintage store. However, it is actually a costume shop. If you are searching for sequined disco tops, garter belts, suspenders, bell bottoms, go-​go boots, etc; then CERTAINLY check this store out. They have an extensive selection of all these items and will definitely be your go-​to for each element of your Halloween costume needs. The problem is, even these items were not vintage. They are simply new costume pieces replicating those eras. If a pair of go-​go boots are made in 2010, you can’t call it vintage merely because it portrays a vintage item. There were a few true vintage items, but they few and far between and even those weren’t eye-​catching. Plus, I spotted a «Borat» t-​shirt on the «vintage» men’s t-​shirt rack… hmmmm. Plus, prices are quite high!
Staff was pleasant. There were a few patrons inside the store at the same time as my encounter and the woman in duty made sure to smile and ask everyone what they were looking for and made suggestions.
Overall, if you are looking for a pricey Halloween costume or are Lady Gaga; then this is your hotspot! But real vintage lovers will not find much here.
