Training Since 1974:

I’ve been training dogs for over 40 years and switched from force-​based, punishment traning to positive, reward-​based training in 1988. I am often referred to as «The Original Dog Whisperer» as my book «The Dog Whisperer» pre-​dates the Nat. Geo TV show by 5 years or so.

History

Paul Owens is a best-​selling author, professional dog trainer and leading authority on positive, nonviolent training methods. He has been training dogs for over 40 years.

His first book, ‘The Dog Whisperer: A Compassionate Nonviolent Approach to Dog Training’ (1999), has sold over 300,000 copies and been translated into several languages. It is widely considered a classic by fellow trainers and dog enthusiasts around the world. He is also the author of ‘The Puppy Whisperer’ (a «perfect book» according to the Association of Professional Dog Trainers Magazine), and The Dog Whisperer presents: Good Habits for Great Dogs. Paulalso produced and appears in The Dog Whisperer Vol. 1 («the best DVD on basic training» — APDT Magazine) and its companion, The Dog Whisperer Vol. 2 — Solving Common Behavior Problems.

Paul is based in Burbank, California, where he continues to train dogs and puppies in both private sessions and group classes.

Paul is a leading proponent of positive, nonviolent animal training in the United States. is the founder/​director of the children’s after-​school, violence prevention program, Paws for Peace. Paul has practiced and taught yoga in the United States and India for over 35 years.

Paul has appeared on numerous radio and television programs, including PBS’s Pets Part of the Family and the nationally syndicated Pet Files. His articles and interviews have appeared in several local and national magazines, including Self, Animal Wellness Magazine, Bark magazine, The Pet Press, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, LA Parent, The Burbank Leader, The Whole Dog Journal, The Yoga Journal, Alaskan Airlines Magazine and many others.
