Ronald McKay – Toluca Lake Dentistry

I am so happy 2 root canals in one day! I never thought I would say that. I am completely dentist phobic. Went to Dr. McKay and he took care of everything, in under 2.5 hours and I feel great! No pain at all during the procedure. I didn’t even know he had given me the novocaine shot. He was so gentle and efficient. His nurses are beyond competent, smart and thorough. I will never be afraid of going to the dentist again! What a relief!!! I am going to take care of the teeth I have now and forever!!! Please don’t delay if you are like me and afraid of the dentist this is your guy. Thank you Dr. McKay!

Dr. McKay and his staff were so wonderful, and although I was a new patient they knew immediately how to take care of me and help me with my dental emergency. Let me tell you, I was in dental hell for about 3 weeks in pain not being able to sleep or eat properly. When I got there, the doctor informed me that I needed a tooth extraction and my wisdom tooth removed. Double boo, but what can you do when nature decides to screw with you?
Anyway, I obviously opted to do what they recommended and I was so nervous but the staff made me feel very comfortable and explained all the steps that would happen. I was basically given a step by step run down of what was going to go down inside of my mouth and it made the procedure painless. As ironic as it sounds, I was the most comfortable and had the least amount of pain in weeks. I have had little swelling, no bruising and I’m just so relieved I went ahead and just got it all over with. A nice care package was sent home with me and I’m on my way to recovering. If you are nervous about dental work, try this place and it will change your mind the way it did mine. You even get your own tv while you wait, who does that these days? My view of dental offices has changed indefinitely.

Ron is the best dentist around. Very bright and caring person. He is very knowledgable about implants and very gentle.

After going through a series of horrible dentists and dental experiences, I’ve finally found the dentist of my dreams. I’ve been going to Dr. McKay for a couple of years now and he and his team always go above and beyond to make you comfortable. I’ve had a couple root canals and just had a crown done. I’ve had crowns done in the past elsewhere and always had to go back for bite adjustments and other issues. I was amazed that the crown McKay just fitted me for was spot on perfect from the get go. I can’t recommend anyone more highly.

Dr. McKay and his staff are my heroes! An infected abscessed tooth is probably one of the worst pains anyone can go through. Dr. McKay was so gentle when he did my root canal and crown and he completed it in one day! I felt no pain during the entire procedure. You cannot ask for more from a healthcare provider. A+++++ for the office.

To start with, all my teeth have had crowns since the age of 20 due to an unfortunate mountaineering event. that said, they are all now over 20 years old. I had a crown failure on a Friday night and needed to find a dentist open Saturdays to get it fixed. I sent an email through their website late Friday night and they called me at 8 am Saturday morning to schedule a 1 pm appointment.
When I got there, the location was clean and advanced looking. Digital x-​rays took just a second. The staff was very communicative on options and what the expected costs would be and everyone I interacted with (front desk, main and secondary dentist, and assistant) were very professional and friendly.
Ironically I watched the food channel during the work being done, but I had no issues with that.
The tooth under the crown was badly decayed so advanced work was needed and again they explained the options and were very patient and clear. In the end, I was in and out in about 2 ½ hours after having an extraction and a triple bridge temp created. No pain throughout the entire experience and even today (next day) I have only taken 1 pain pill. The temp feels and looks good, and I suspect the final product will be equally great.
The office was professional, very accommodating, and I believe that I will be having the rest of my aging crowns checked out once my primary issue gets fully resolved. Overall a very positive experience given the nature of the tooth issue.

Dr. McKay is one of the best dentists I have ever been to. I was referred to him through a friend of mine to get my wisdom teeth extracted! I was really nervous, but Mr McKay and his team made me feel very comfortable and it was a great experience! He has become my go to dentist, like I said his team/​staff are super friendly and personable that make me feel at home. I definitely RECOMMEND this dental office to anyone, it is always a great experience!

I went to Dr McKay office in Toluca Lake for the first time this month. From my initial communication with the office and the reminders of my appointment both by text and email, this office left a flawless impression. As I entered, I was greeted by an amazing professional staff from completing my paperwork until I was seated comfortably in the chair for my dental x-​rays. I am not a fan of dental xrays but the assistant was upbeat and made the entire process go by so fast. I left my appointment with a happy mouth and pocketbook. I was impressed and happy with the service and highly recommend Dr. Mckays practice. We live in Southern California where health and beauty are really important. If you are looking for a respectable and reliable doctor who honors your time and most importantly, your health, you must see Dr Mckay.

BestPlace Ever! I found Dr. Mckay when i was having a dental emergency. I
was given an immediate appt, immediate service and have never looked
back. The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful, and
mind you i was in pain. The staffs’ personable attitudes,
professionalism, cleanliness, and sterile technique are a class act.
Oh and TV at the dentist? Oh yeah! They also had easy insurance
billing. I highly recommend this office-​you won’t go anywhere else
and they even set up a plan as far as what needs to be done first and
in the future.

Definitely recommend dr mckays office! I struggled to find a new dentist after our long time dentist retired. I tried several offices before finding dr. mckays office and I’m so happy I did!
His staff is wonderful and very prompt. I sent an appt request via his website and had a response and appt set within hours.
My appointment was no different and I had a great cleaning with Cynthia and exam with dr. I actually really enjoyed my time here. The office is clean, beautiful, and very comfortable. I highly recommend this office to anyone in search of a great dentist!

I had a tooth ache after getting my braces off with my orthodontist. I came in on a Saturday, and got it fixed all in 1 appointment a nice new crown for my back molar I also chipped a front tooth that Dr. McKay fixed for me I feel so beautiful! And got a teeth cleaning that same day it was amazing! my teeth felt lighter over the days. I really love coming here the staff is so friendly and professional. They have convenient Saturday hours and finance plans. Dr. McKay is very professional and called me the next day to see how I was feeling I felt so taken care of that a doctor would go out of his way to see how I was feeling. Best dental office with caring doctor & staff.

My relationship with this office started out okay, in fact super pleasant and awesome as far as personal compatibility goes, but quickly unraveled over the course of the last 2 years.
This place is a mirage when it comes to dental care. Sure, if you have perfect teeth and just need a cleaning every so often, then by all means go here, but personally, I have found them to be terribly insufficient in all other areas and not as detail oriented as I’d like from someone who is supposed to provide a service primarily dedicated to extreme detail and care.
I had an issue that went unnoticed for some time until I brought it as a concern up during a cleaning at the beginning of the year. I then found another dentist for a second opinion, who I chose to switch to (as previous care provided by the office of Albus and McKay was both faulty and unsatisfactorily completed according to my current dentist.) The shoddy work and false trust of Toluca Lake Dentistry has resulted in me needing to not only replace the crown that was set in by this office LESS THAN A YEAR after it was completed (naturally a second crown in less than 5 years on the same tooth is not covered by insurance), but also undergo both a root canal and gum surgery as well, the latter of which would not have been necessary had the office of Albus and McKay taken care to not set the crown structure below the gum line in the first place, poorly shaping the remaining tooth structure (which has since had to be rebuilt) and potentially exposing me for periodontal disease down the line, and therefore requiring an additional and costly surgical procedure.
It has been both financially expensive (to the tune of nearly $ 3,000 on top of last year’s $ 1800 or so, and that’s with insurance) and mentally and emotionally exhausting as I have undergone batteries of medical tests and missed many days of work trying to figure out what was making me feel so sick and tired. Having a dentist take a peek in my mouth for less than 5 minutes during an hour long appointment, tell me everything is okay, collect his country club dues, and send me home has happened with this office more than once. I have also had to redo the work on the space behind my front teeth, as the fillings this office did less than a year ago had decay under and around them. This whole ordeal has cost me over $ 5,000 when all is said and done due to this office’s poor work and lack of further diagnosis after work was completed.
Aside from being in pain for half a year plus after having my crown work done, and being told that «it was just settling still», or «some sensitivity is normal for months after, even up to a year» any time I questioned my discomfort, I take issue with the way this practice is run overall. Many times I have found myself in this office waiting in the chair to see the dentist longer than I actually am in his presence for, and have spent the vast majority of my time with the nurses/​hygenists instead. I’d like to excuse it as «that’s the just way it’s done these days», but based on my current care provider, I know this to be untrue. From the moment I step into his office until the moment I leave, I am with my current dentist for almost the full duration of my appointment– close to 95%+, as opposed to this office’s 5−10% in person time (on a good day.)
It seems Toluca Lake Dentistry is all about the volume game. For the amount of money that dental care costs me and my employer, I expect REAL consistent care from the person in the office with the most training, and rightfully so– I only have one mouth, and am a person, not a number with a dollar sign attached. Also, it seems that I was switched to Dr. McKay without my consent, as he is the last dentist who saw me during my previous two or so visits, and quite frankly? His lack of empathy and overall personality towards effectively communicating with patients sucks. He comes off as defensive and confrontational when presented with questions about alternative information, which doesn’t bode well as someone paying for his services. I have since switched dental care providers to someone who can treat me more satisfactorily, with better care and empathy, and will encourage others to do the same.
My best regards to the nurses and hygienists that continue to work at this office– you have all been extremely pleasant, and I commend you for standing by your captains on this ship, whatever sorts of pirates they may be.

I did not have a good experience at this office. I made an appointment as a new patient. A filling I had came off and I was in pain especially when touching. I expected as a new patient to see the dentist, to have some X-​Rays taken and give me some information about my teeth. That was not the case. After making me wait for 40 minutes finally I was taken inside and was told that I was there for a cleaning.
Really? No doctor, no assessment and straight to «pocking» my teeth???
I have very good PPO insurance and I think that as a new patient a doctor should have assessed my teeth before cleaning. I just left and I do hope they do not charge my insurance for the visit. Will never go back to that office.

Needed a route canal for over a year and have been so unhappy with a the dentists interactions I have had lately. I found Dr. McKay on Unilocal and gave him a shot because I am an Ian McKay fan (don’t laugh at me) any way the entire staff was

All of them. I would go back for sure.
I might even get up the courage to have them do 2 implants for me.
The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 was due to the really long wait. 3 hours for 1 route canal.

I’m really unsatisfied with the way the front desk handles patients. The people here tried to pressure me into paying for the work I had done ahead of time instead of billing my insurance. Also, when I had a root canal done, the dental assistant seated the temp filling and then drilled it, which is against DBC rules. I am going to file a formal complaint against the office for treating me so poorly.

I was referred by a family friend to Dr. McKay for my invisalign treatment. I saw Dr. McKay & Staff for my Invisalign treatment not too long ago and it was a very pleasant experience given that this was my second ortho treatment (since I wasn’t satisfied with my orthodontist’s work.) He was helpful and explained things thoroughly throughout the 6 month treatment.
The staff was always warm and friendly to my family and me.
