Description

Specialties

Birgit & Bruce Anderson, our winemakers make small batches of wine from Texas grown grapes. We are known for our big, bold reds including both varietals and blends. Our «Twilight Tango» Malbec is the best known among these. Our 2 Chardonnays and our recently released «Vivid» Viognier are increasingly popular white wines. For those who desire sweeter wine Pink Rainbows vies with Redhead as table wine, and two dessert wines follow.

Sunset Winery’s production facility is a modest brick house, hence our tag line: «The Best Little Wine House in Texas™» … It certainly isn’t a Grand Château, but when Birgit or Bruce tells the story of how their little «homestead» became a winery the narrative is both entertaining and informative. Most who take the tour leave knowing more about wine making than when they arrived — and may also learn a bit about how barrels are made in France or the ecology of Portuguese cork forests.

Come back to relax (or party) on the deck or in the barrel room!

History

Established in 2005.

Birgit & Bruce Anderson (with 3 daughters & two Labs) moved to this little «homestead» in 1973 and settled in to tend to a variety of livestock and crops. By 1993 they were empty nesters, so of course they moved to a larger home in Fort Worth. Their daughter Belinda & hubby Roland (with 2 daughters) bought the «homestead,» and the Andersons retained ½ the acreage.

On the tour you’ll learn how ballroom dancing and a conference in San Francisco led to the 2003 repurchase of the house and its conversion into a working commercial winery. In Fall of 2005 Sunset Winery opened with their 2003 Merlot & 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, + a sweet red wine from another Texas winery.

By 2013 the wines produced on site included the World’s first 100% Acai wine [the berries are from Brazil] and 14 different wines made from 100% Texas grown grapes. The winery also added a deck and the Barrel Room, (with accessible restrooms) — providing inviting spaces to kick-back and relax, or get down and party.
