I was looking to have three large front windows replaced in San Francisco and was having a hard time finding a contractor that was willing to pull the permit with the city. One of the contractors suggested that I contact the Alexander Company. This was the best piece of advice. The sales contact arrived timely at my home to measure and look at the job. He spent a fair amount of time with me answering my questions and explaining different options for the window replacement Within two days I received a timely quote which was a reasonable price and confirmation that Alexander Company would be able to pull the window permit for me. Every aspect of dealing with this company was a great experience. Scheduling the installation was no problem. The team of installers were professional and respectful of my home. They did a fantastic job installing and were very quick and tidy. I have some more windows that need replaced in my home and will definitely be contacting Alexander Company for any window needs that I have in the future.

I live in a 100+ year old house in San Francisco. I had a few windows starting to rot out on the west side of my house and i wanted to replace 12 other old windows throughout the main floor for energy savings. I got two contractors to come in and never quote me or call me back. A friend recommend Alexander Company and I went to the showroom. The sales person gave me option and set realistic expectations for me. Vinyl vs. wood, what would the city approve, etc. The team came in and measured the windows and i got a quote in a few days. It was a good quote and I signed up. They came out again to verify the measurements, this was a good sign. I waited a few months, finally, I got a call and the windows were installed over 2.5 days during a rainy week. I am really happy with the quality the installation and professionalism of the crew.
I have another project coming up for my mom’s house and would use these guys again in a heart beat.

This has got to be the easiest company to do business with on the Peninsula. Good prices, appointments meticulously kept, I’m so glad my neighbor told me about them.

I was looking to have all the existing windows in my house replaced, 14 in total. The old windows were the originals from when the house was built in the 40’s, single pane, no insulation, and very drafty. Walter came and spent a lot of time answering my questions, going over options, and showing me samples. I was actually out of town when they installed all 14 new windows in one day. When I came back the place was clean and tidy, with no dust or debris. They were extremely responsive and the price was competitive as well.

Need to replace the old stayle alum single pane window with more efficient double pane window for my condo unit. Did some shopping around. Bay Window Pro, Alexander company, etc. THis is not the lowest, but easiest communicated. John came to the site to verify the quantify before the final pricing. They take care of permit, ordering etc.
However, on the installation date, the crew find one window was wrong size .they have to come back again.

It was a pleasure working with Jeff at Alexander Company. The entire project — 12 windows and one sliding glass door — was well managed and the installation was extremely professional. Jeff kept me updated on progress throughout and even came to check up on the project after it was completed. And best of all — I love my windows/​door! They look great. I highly recommend Alexander Company. Easy to work with, professional and their prices are competitive. I’ll hire them again and recommend them without hesitation.

I am very happy to have used Alexander company for my replacement window project. John Alexander did an excellent job of figuring out what I needed and navigating through both the Foster City Permit Process and the Shell Cove Management company’s processes and getting the project done at half the price that was quoted to me by another window replacement company. I thought the four installers that came out did an excellent job in taking out the old windows, cutting and repairing the wall for the new up to code window, and putting in the new windows and doors. The new windows and doors look far superior to the old peeling aluminium and seal failed windows and door that I had and the house is much quieter and more energy efficient. I highly recommend them.

Outstanding experience.
I’ve been in the market to replace 6 old wood windows in my 1924 SF house for the longest time, always put off by «big store» inadequate sales people with mediocre knowledge. I wasted an enormous amount of time with Home Depot and Lowes before having the fortune of finding Alexander.
I met with the owner Jeff at his showroom in Burlingame. Jeff is an ocean of knowledge about homes in SF and understands our microclimates, intense heat and cold, etc. This is vital in window/​material selection. I initially chose Andersen windows but Jeff recommended Marvin, which was the perfect choice for my home. I needed aluminum clad wood windows to meet city requirements.
From the point of signing the contract I can tell you the project was exquisite. The install was one of the best contractor experiences I have ever had. Jeff kept me in the loop with the manufacturing timeline and approximately 6 weeks later I was scheduled for an install.
The 2 installers were absolute rock stars. These guys turned up on time, prepped my home with tons of prep materials, plastic sheeting, sheets of brown paper covering all floors. My house looked like it was prepped for open heart surgery. Ok I exaggerate slightly but seriously the best prep I have ever seen. From that point the guys works in perfect concert — one outside, one inside, they had shop vacs and cleaned constantly. Also, they were completely silent! I barely heard them throughout the day and around 5 I could not believe the difference in my house. The windows looked amazing. They were calked and finished with great detail.
There was absolutely zero cleanup. They carefully wrapped the old windows which were picked up a few days later. In addition; Jeff filed all the paperwork with the city for permits.
From beginning to completion, I could not be happier with the project and Alexander.

Just tried to set up a quote/​estimate for a replacement skylight from this place. I read the ad in the SF Chronicle. The women who answered the phone said we don’t sell to you. I asked if I tried to buy a skylight replacement do you Alexander Co. then send estimator out then send a crew out out. Answer no? You get your contractor then they (contractor) buy from them. Looks like they have changed business model to wholesaler only. Looks like I won’t be doing business with them. If this is true they just lost several thousand $ job. I recalled the business to clarify spoke to Betty who said just call a good roofer/​end of conversation. If the owner is reading this change your ad to no sales to private citizens. Wholesale only.

I did a lot of research before we hired this company for replacing a window in my house. Alexander turned out to be great for several reasons:
— I only needed to replace one window. Most of the companies I called wouldn’t do less windows than a minimum number, or they would charge extra for a small number of windows. Alexander had no issues with doing only one window, and did not charge me any extras.
— I wanted double-​pane laminated window, which most companies did not offer, but Alexander did. The reason for laminated is that I live fairly cross to the train tracks in San Mateo, and it’s pretty noise in my house. Laminated windows offer the best noise reduction. On top of that, laminated windows are shutter proof, which is a great feature, because the window I replaced is on top of my baby’s crib.
— Due to some HOA requirements, I needed a custom color for the frame, which most companies could not supply. But Alexander was able to get me that color.
— The price was pretty reasonable (around $ 1100) for a high end window, which was the best I found from all the companies I called.
— The guys who installed the window were pretty fast an professional. Three people came to do the replacement, and they even fixed the older window sill and caulked and sealed everything really well. The window looks really great, and the noise reduction is as good as it can get.

This is our second job with Alexander Window Company. They are always very tidy, on time, take care to protect the surrounding area & do a great job with installations. My only regret is not working with them sooner. I highly recommend them for your next window or door replacement.

We have used Alexander Company four separate times to replace windows over the course of 15 years. Every time Jeff comes out and explains the options and his recommendation. The crew are friendly and do an excellent job cleaning up after the project is done. We are extremely pleased with all of the windows Jeff and his crew have replaced.

Worked with Jeff and his team to install 8 new windows due to a seal leak in our old ones on the recommendation of our contractor. We were originally going to do retrofit windows but Jeff talked to us about the pros and cons and ultimately losing the additional window coverage in the retrofit was what convinced us to do new installation instead. We went with Simonton windows and they completed the job (minus paint and stucko) in 2 days just as scheduled. They were also very accommodating working around our baby’s nap schedule.

The windows have been in place for several months now, and we experienced an immediate reductions in draft and in noise levels. The windows work beautifully and are easy to clean. Alexander did a super job from 1^st contact to post-​installation followup.
We were about to install custom shutters throughout our new-​to-​us, circa 1925 home in Parkside/​Sunset when it became apparent that the original sash-​weighted, double hung windows were bleeding heat (out) and and noise (in), and were otherwise deteriorating. So, we delayed the shutters installation searched for a local window supplier/​installer that represented the Marvin Windows and Doors Company (that decision based upon earlier research). Alexander Company is our local Marvin supplier/​installer, and Mr. Jeff Alexander responded to our inquiry.
Jeff surveyed our home while educating us on the process: building permit, San Francisco restrictions as to permissible materials in street-​facing windows. He subsequently provided budgetary quotations on a particular line of Marvin windows, and invited me to inspect the windows in his Burlingame showroom.
Once the decision was made, Jeff conducted a detailed survey and prepared the contract & window order. Alexander provided paint primed (interior) double hung, multiple-​pane windows in all but the five bay window; those were unfinished casements which were subsequently stained and clear coated.
The installation was essentially painless. The installers were efficient, careful, and courteous. Jeff was excellent throughout, and checked in with us after the job was done — and paid for — looking for concerns or constructive criticism.

Alexander installed two winndows in our kitchen and did an excellent job. I was particularly impressed with their interior finish work and the fact that they did a good job of matching the stucco on the outside. We will use them again for our next window project.

I used Alexander Company in the fall of 2014. They were chosen in a competitive bid environment to replace 11 windows in our 1907 Edwardian flat in San Francisco. We chose Marvin inserts that included 10 double hung and one large French casement window for our kitchen. From the initial visit from the company representative I gained a lot of confidence that they really understood the work at hand. This was re-​enforced through the permitting process and the incredibly skilled installation. The team was punctual, respectful of our time and our home and did a fair job of cleaning up and keeping things in good order. We had a couple issues (minor) in terms of the product itself which were addressed and resolved. I would recommend Alexander Company as well as look to them again for any future projects. Quality products, customer care, and craftsmanship all come to mind.

These guys are the best! I bought a 1908 Victorian in San Francisco with quaint but horribly inefficient poured-​glass windows. You could hear every conversation outside, every car door slam, and the garbage man was merciless. And these old windows were energy sieves — my PG&E bill was mostly to heat the streets of Potrero Hill. About a year later, sleep-​deprived and frustrated, I took the plunge and replaced 15 windows. I called my former landlord, who’d just gone through the same exercise, and he recommended Alexander Co. as the place to go.
And, man, was he right. We had a terrific experience, from our educational visit to the showroom in Burlingame to the measurement process to installation. They have a decent selection of brands (we went Marvin) and can special order basically anything. They were professional, honest, helpful, and just plain nice to deal with. The installation reflected great attention to detail and craftsmanship (my window frames didn’t exactly have 90 degree angles anymore) and they left everything spotless.
Now it’s deliciously quiet (spring for the extra sound barrier!) and no longer bakingly hot on a warm SF day. A great investment for great quality windows from a great company. Highly recommend!

I can’t say enough about the Alexander Company. I have used them for the last 20 years and have always received outstanding service. I had some problems with some of my windows, the manufacturer had gone out of business several years ago but the Alexander Company would continue to come out and service the windows for me. A couple of months ago I had to call them out again, this time John Alexander came out. Once it saw what we had been dealing with he decided to replace the faulty windows. I was blown away.
John ordered the new windows, once they were in Rosie (she’s always so helpful and professional) called to set up the installations. The crew arrived on time, they covered my floors and rugs with paper, the guys replaced 4 windows the first time and 6 windows on the second installation, they did an incredible job and when they were all done, they vacuumed and cleaned up after themselves you would have never known they were here.
I highly recommend the Alexander Company, they are professional, great customer service, outstanding workmanship and a company you can depend and rely on.

I’m surprised to not see 5 stars across the board. Jeff Alexander was great from the start. They were professional, on-​time, competitive rates, flexible w/​my schedule. I am doing a remodel and this was by far the smoothest part of the whole thing. I would 100% use them again and recommend them to anyone. I gave my contractor their info, so hopefully he’ll use them for all of his projects!
