Bayshore Transmissions

About 8 months ago, I was having the motor of my 95 previa rebuilt. I thought to myself while the transmission is out, mind as well have it looked at. Unfortunately, I was unable to get to mechanic shop in time to pick up the transmission to have it inspected at Bayshore. So I convinced myself that maybe the transmission was ok, I mean it didn’t have issues prior (245,000 miles). So an AT kit was used (gaskets and seals) with fresh fluid and it was okay.

Recently, the transmission was not shifting into drive and felt like it was manual giving a bit of gas before it would get into gear. This progressively got worse and soon, between 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd gears, there would be long delays and then it would violently shake into gear!
I had about enough. I took it to the shop it was previously at and got a quote.
I then decided to call Bayshore (as I have talked to Tom a few times about stopping by on saturdays). It was good because I had the day off and when I took it to him, he echoed the mechanic shop said what the problem was, he quoted me a better price.
At this point, I contemplated other options and found this to be the best one. So I called Tom 20 mins after he test drove my van. I dropped it off Thursday and the transmission was done on Tuesday. They also called me about bad transmission mounts and when they come in, they will replace them.

Let me just say, after I drove the van, the difference is night and day, even comparing to when I first got my van after the rebuild.

Tom runs a great business and is very approachable and knowledgeable. He showed me the part that was bad (front drum).
It is hard to find good people in a competitive area and I honestly will recommend anyone with transmission issues to Bayshore transmissions.
Price was good. I mean I had to rebuild the transmission, but he also changed out many parts and added a shift kit (which I asked for).
Communication — he emailed and called me on the phone about anything such as issues and when updates on the progress.
My car was pretty much done with in a few days. Dropped off Thursday, finished on Tuesday… aside for waiting on transmission mounts.
The current final outcome — I am definitely ecstatic about the transmission. It actually picks up like a car moving.

The shop is a member of ATRA (
) which is an industry standard. Not only that, what does that tell you if he has contracts with SF city and county to work on their vehicles?
Great and trustworthy shop… I can’t say that about others!

Quickly diagnosed the issue. Gave a fair quote. And a ride to BART. Came in under the quote. Would certainly come here again as I feel that I was treated fairly.

Tom is a real champ. He has been working on my families cars for years and you will not find a more honest and professional guy in the business.

Got a 2005 Ford Taurus automatic fixed in Dec. 2011 by Bayshore Transmissions–
they are very familiar with Ford transmissions.
Their estimate was very competitive, and was simply the final price.
The car was ready when expected, and
in 2 years since, we have had no problems with the transmission.
It has always run great since the repair!
They have been extremely helpful with some subsequent situations
that seemed critical to us, but were found to be minor issues.

I took m y 2001acura tl to Tom a Bayshore transmission. They gave me a price that was less than any other shop in the area by 500 dollars. I got the car back he day Tom said it would be ready at the quoted price. I have a rebuilt transmission that runs great. I will take an car with transmission problems to Bayshore Transmission. They were great.

Your lucky if you get their full attention, time of day and an appointment they are willing to commit to.
They feel their contracts are more important then the average, run-​of-​the-​mill customer who wonders in. Even after repeated communications on the day to drop off, its all up to whether they have nothing better to do. I was brushed aside and forced to go elsewhere, sorry, next time, fully commit to a date and time and you might get more customers.
(yes i understand the importance of good contracts, but if you can’t handle «us» the little guy, then turn off the neon sign that reads OPEN for Business) you wasted my precious time!

Toms been doing transmissions for my shop for over a year now, he and his worker are courteous, friendly and knowledgable. He has the best prices around, and you know you’ll be getting the best service for your vehicles transmission. Best transmission shop to go to by miles!

I found Santa at Bayshore Transmissions
10yr old car, east coast rust-​bucket underneath, exterior beautiful. Gears slipping, every transmission code for Check Engine light possible coming up. Took it to 2 transmission places that said, «sorry not worth repairing.»
Took it to Bayshore. Tom took his time, I was in no rush (the next stop was a junk yard). He did his research. Added fluid (even tho it said it didn’t need it, it actually did) and drove it and all the check engine lights went out.
He called me and said, «I thought this car was done for too but it just has a misread.» I’m going to take it for a longer spin tho to make sure you don’t get stuck (I was headed to bodega for holiday week).
He spent hours on it, just charged me $ 150. Best part is the kid that works with him was super nice and showed me where to read the gauge (since it is messed up) and all sorts of other things about the engine since he use to own an Eclipse.
They are all well-​educated, native English speakers and they take their time to do things right. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate Bayshore Transmissions; they saved my car for $ 150. It was a Merry Christmas indeed.

After checking around with a few different shops to get a tranny rebuilt, I found Tom’s shop on Unilocal.He quoted me MUCH less than the quotes that I was getting. Add that he is a true professional, and it was a no-​brainer.
Let me explain. I called 6 shops. They all charge for the R&R (remove and replace) labor, and they of course charge for the rebuild. They all quoted me around $ 400 to $ 600 for the R&R and between $ 900 to $ 1300 for the rebuild. So you can imagine that I was pleased to hear Tom’s quote of $ 1100 for everything. Score!!! My ’65 drives like a dream. Thanks Tom.

I was referred to Bayshore Transmissions by a friend who said they did excellent work and my friend was right. They are honest and do great work at reasonable prices. Thanks to Bayshore Transmissions my car is running perfectly. I would recommend them highly.

Awesome service, Tom knows his stuff! I have a 2001 Crown Vic that had a screwed transmission — no reverse and grinded in drive. Tom had the car done in less than two days and this was after a complete overhaul. I would bring any car I own to him and it’s no wonder why he’s been in business for 35+ years.
