Precision Hearing

I met with Dr. Kimberley Jennings and had several appointments with her. I found her to be extremely knowledgable, as well as kind and very compassionate. Her bedside manner is A+++++.
After testing my hearing and finding a mild hearing loss, she fitted me with a loaner hearing aid which I was able to wear and try out for several weeks before deciding if wearing a hearing aid was for me. I have a little bit of a tricky situation. I only needed a hearing aid in one ear, and I am an R.N. and need to wear a stethoscope at work.
Ultimately, I decided that I was not getting enough benefit from the hearing aid at this point because my loss is fairly mild and I compensate pretty well, but that will likely change for me over the next years. Kimberley was very supportive of that decision.
The whole experience was enlightening as I was able to learn about my particular hearing loss (turns out I have trouble hearing some consonants) and it enabled me to be a little more forgiving of myself for mishearing things frequently. It also demystified the hearing aid for me. I was afraid that people would notice (only one person did). I learned that I am not afraid to wear one someday, and that I will find a way to adapt (stethoscope and all) when that someday comes.
I appreciated that there was no sales pitch, no hard sell. The hearing test, the fitting of the loaner, the consultations with Kimberley were absolutely free. I literally did not spend a dime.

I’ve worn hearing aids since my early twenties, and I am in my fifties now, so I’ve had a lot of hearing tests. I found Dr. Jennings year ago when one of my hearing aids was accidentally crushed, and I decided to look for a place closer to my home then the one I was going to. I’m a psychotherapist and must be able to hear my clients. Recently one of my Phonak hearing aids stopped working. I bought these hearing aids at CEI in Palo Alto. They were all booked up and unwilling to fit me in that day to see if it needed simple maintenance or warranty repairs. So I took my hearing aids to Kaiser’s audiology department in Redwood City. They told me to transfer my warranty service to them I would have to pay $ 500.
I found Dr. Jennings’ information from Phonak, the manufacturer. Although she didn’t sell me my hearing aids, he completely understood my urgent need to have these working. Instead of trying to take advantage she welcomed me as a new client and offered a very reasonable hourly fee even to take care of warranty issues and no «warranty transfer fee» at all. She’s friendly, dedicated to her clients and welcomes new business instead of the other places that act like you’re lucky they’ll help you if they can find the time. Dr. Jennings also provides free yearly exams to her clients.

When my dad finally decided he was ready for a hearing aid, he first went to a Hearing Aid Specialist who made a recommendation. My dad was skeptical, so I contacted Dr. Jennings who offered to look at the audiogram (audiograph? Dr. J knows!) and determined that the device recommended by the hearing aid salesman was NOT compatible with ANY of Dad’s areas of hearing loss!
Do yourself a favor and go to a competent Audiologist to treat your hearing loss. Other people just want to sell you hearing aids. Dr. Jennings wants you to hear, to the best of your ability — to regain the joy of conversation, so you no longer feel frustrated or left out.
There is a great range of technology out there and Dr. Jennings will determine the best fit for your needs. Seriously, she knows it all.
My dad ended up with hearing aids that greatly improved his life.
I nearly cried when he told me he could hear birds singing outside the house again… and that when riding the 4-​wheeler at the ranch, which he knew was loud to begin with, he could distinguish other noises too… squeaks and pings which told him it needed repairs!
They worked so well, he would sometimes turn them off when Mom came home!

My Husband is a patient of Dr. Jennings. He finds his hearing aids to be very comfortable fitting. They have certainly made a difference in his quality of life. He could only understand about 3 out of 10 words before and this created a lot of problems.. He has to remember to remove his hearing aids before he showers, that’s how comfortable they are.
