History

Established in 1913.

Carl A. Nelson, a skilled carpenter and Swedish immigrant, established Carl A. Nelson & Company. Carl owned the firm until the 1940’s when it became employee owned. Several descendents of Carl’s founding team still work for the firm including a superintendent and project manager, both of whom have inherited the skills and work ethic of the company founders.

Our company has grown since our inception. We have permanent offices in Muscatine, Burlington, and Waterloo, Iowa and we share resources across all these offices to best serve our clients. In total we have about 110 employees. Over the last three years, our average annual receipts have been approximately $ 50 million.

The firm is employee owned by 25 management and supervisory employees. Every one of our projects are staffed with employee-​owners which we know impacts our customer service and the project success.

Business Owner

Mr. Culp joined Carl A. Nelson & Company as a Project Manager in 1995 and has over 22 years experience in the construction industry. He is a Construction Engineering graduate from Iowa State University. Dan’s project management experience with Carl A. Nelson & Company has included medical, commercial, and public community projects. In 2011, he was promoted to Director of Business Development.
