Diggers Rest Coffeehouse

I ordered pad thai, got ramen with extra crap in it. Pretty sure they used the seasoning packet too.

The décor is a bit all over the place and could benefit from a style streamline but the service is prompt and the coffee delicious. Top notch baked goods and a variety of canned sodas and packaged snacks round out the food selection. Didn’t try this time, but they seemed to have some tasty sandwiches as well.

Went in there with the parents after seeing this is one of 2 coffee places to go around here, whoever the Saturday staff is, please manager/​owner, teach them how to coffee. Blank stares and clinking of coffee liqueur bottles when asked what types of fraps they had, «Iowa Americano» is watered down regular drip coffee, my dad just took the straight coffee. Mom backed off after the frap flavor incident. I went with a cappuccino with and extra shot. Ended up poured backwards, milk first, shots dumped in and looked like a cup of frothy hot milk. Overall eh, I’ll wait till I’m back near my local coffeehouse to get a cup.

We really enjoy this little coffee shop. It’s usually pretty quiet, they offer a great selection of coffee & tea (including some organic), and they have a nice little menu (I personally favor the Dutch Letters, hot out of the oven).

One of only two coffee shops that pop up when you search Unilocal.I’m writing this review whilst sitting one of the many tables in Digger’s Rest, this is my second visit; happy to report that the internet is stable and the coffee is making me one happy customer. My dad raves about the French press device for the loose leaf tea… he’s a good judge for the tea front. We’re working on our second Dutch Letter and wondering why we haven’t had these before — yum!
There are different flavored coffees in jars that line one wall that I can only assume are roasted here given the large roaster and gunny sacks of beans in the front. There is a line of jars with various loose leaf tea options as well. Random snacks and a few pastry items; they also serve prepared food (paninis/​wraps/​soup) at low prices. Various art entirely out of my budget adorns the walls.
Located in the quaint, old downtown close to the Mississippi. Take the last exit on 34 before you cross the bridge to Illinois; towns over there are just as hopeless as the small towns in Iowa for decent lattes and such.

I was visiting family in Burlington and, being from Oregon, was craving coffee that wasn’t Folger’s. Digger’s Rest is a fantastic little shop that roasts their own beans and makes a mean Vanilla Latte. Relaxing atmosphere and right in the middle of Downtown.

Stopped in during the Preservation Iowa Summit for lunch. Due to the conference it was busier than normal and it took a while for the food to arrive. But, I was surprised by the choice of coffees and teas offered. It is a place I would visit again.

This is easily my favorite place to visit when I’m in Burlington, Iowa. The shop has an amazing variety of coffee and teas. Getting breakfast or lunch there is a great experience. I’ve always found the owners and staff to be really friendly and accommodating. Can’t recommend it enough.

I visited the Diggers Rest over Christmas vacation while I was in the midwest visiting friends.
Very casual and clean atmosphere, very local business, definitely recommend supporting them.
