History

Established in 2003.

ECHO is an acronym for Ecology, Culture, History and Opportunity for stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin. ECHO was formed from the original Lake Champlain Basin Science Center. There was a concerted to reconnect people to the value of caring about Lake Champlain in the 1990. The vision of several local people and political leaders combined their energy and effort to pull several partners together to create ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain. The Leahy Center campus is home to ECHO, the Lake Champlain Basin Resource Room, the University of Vermont Rubenstein Laboratory and the Naval Memorial, «The Lone Sailor».
