Wow! We just went to adopt a dog and had such a great experience. This place was clean and the staff was friendly. The kennels have dog doors to go outside and there are just 4 – 5 kennels per «pod» so it’s not just a large warehouse of barking. All that is good, but here’s the best part; they do not just adopt out dogs «first come first serve» they evaluate each candidate. I am talking about more than the simple screening we have experienced in the past. They have a DOG BEHAVIORIST on staff, to evaluate each dog and how they interact with the potential adopters and their existing pets! She seemed to be able to see right away that our dog was compatible with the potential adopted dog and was very informative about other dogs in the shelter as well. We consider ourselves to be exceptional dog people and it never occurred to us that we would not be coming home with the dog of our choice from a shelter, but all we could do was meet with the dog & behaviorist, submit our application and hope we are selected. It may sound like an inconvenience, but you have got to respect that kind of commitment to finding the right home for every animal. We walked out disappointed without a new family member, but impressed with the Humane Society of Skagit County!
