What a find. A taste of childhood memories! Growing up, I loved getting a snowball, who doesn’t? But as I grew, I lost my T-Rex(get it?), but seriously, I haven’t had a good snowball place since I left the Burnie and their abundance of family run SnoBall stands. So when my Unilocal-talented wife discovered Sarem’s, located near the intersection of 29 and 198, we decided to stop by for a snowball on a scorcher of a day. Yes, they’ve got all the flavors and all of the toppings and they even have homemade ice cream to add to the snowball. You would just drive by the place if you didn’t know it was there, so you’ll have to be on the lookout. The staff is friendly, the courtyard is quaint with a few chairs and lights at night, but it really harkens back to my childhood. Which is exactly what I’m looking for. Sure, I want a large egg custard with marshmallow on top, but I also want to be a kid again, enjoying my summer treat.

Being more of a «Baltimore girl» than a «DC girl» one major thing that I miss is the plethora of snowball stands where I grew up in Harford County. So, when my hubby and I discovered this place by searching on Unilocal for snowball stands near Laurel, we were pleased to find Sarem’s. The prices are reasonable, staff nice, and snowballs great! They have a good variety of flavor choices and offer marshmallow or ice cream as toppings for your snowball. They also advertise a homemade ice cream sandwich which I might try next time!

I love this place. My husband and I stopped in last night when we saw the little ice cream lights on the side of the road. The people who own and run the little ice cream stand are very nice. We ordered waffle cones and needless to say we got two of the largest ice creams I have ever seen. It tasted good too. This place looks is perfect for a sweet dessert after dinner on a first date. A little bit country but still very nice. My only complaint was that the owner seems to be doing advertising for every company in the State of Maryland. They had papa johns banners and business cards in the window. It really took away from how quaint this place could be. Overall, I would give it a try!

Hard to believe no one’s Unilocaled this place yet. Ah well, more FTRs for me! Food Stuffs — Cheaper, tastier, and much less of a headache to get in and out of than Rita’s just down the street, Sarem’s is my favorite local place to go for snowballs — the one in Woodstock is amazing but it’s a bit far. The only thing Rita’s has going for it is the little tiny chunks of fruit you get with the water ice. Here, it’s just ice in cup, drowned in a sugar syrup. Mmmmmm! The soft serve ice cream is great — add it to any sno-ball for less than $ 1. Location — the address says New Columbia Pike, but this was the designation when this was the newer Columbia Pike. So I wonder what the old Old Columbia Pike became? Anyway, it’s near the Ace Hardware — that’s inexplicably holding on despite all the major construction surrounding it — and across from the new Giant that is being built across from the old Giant. Burtonsville is one strange place. Cash-only and there’s a few tables outside. Their current hours for 2010 are: April 9 — October 30 Tue-Fri 3pm-10pm Sat/Sun: 12pm-10pm Closed Mondays
