My experience with their mortgage services was really not good. When we were shopping around and in the pre qualification process, the loan officer at CSB didn’t even look at our information. When I called to ask whether she needed more info, she was like, nope — I didn’t even run your numbers, because I don’t see that you have enough income to get a mortgage. We ended up qualifying at all three of the other banks we looked at for MassHousing, MHP, FHA, and a conventional loan, all for an amount that was more than the entire price of the place we were looking at when we first started. Now, if you know anything about the mortgage products I mentioned above, you also know that we are not wealthy people. We are thrifty, hardworking people who pay our bills, live within our means, and have good credit. This woman didn’t even look at us and didn’t bother to run the numbers. That would have been fine if Cambridge Savings Bank didn’t go around to first time homebuyer courses talking about how it offers all of these loan products for buyers with less income, a smaller down payment, or both. It worked out fine for us. We ended up with a conventional mortgage and a nice place to live. And this is probably an okay bank for your checking account. But I would steer people away from their mortgage department.

Great bank, been going here for over a decade. They reimburse ATM fees. My only complaint is that you can no longer deposit cash in any of their ATM’s.

The Cambridge Savings Bank HQ is a very nice building in a very nice location. With very nice people — one of whom is always standing out in a prominent location to help you when you walk inside. All the same things that apply to any CSB branch apply here as well: I recently called to cancel my debit card after losing my wallet, the person in their call center kindly offered me several other steps that I might also want to take to prevent identity theft. That was way more helpful than the«special» offers you usually get when you call customer service! And they recently got machines that let them print debit cards at the branch. So you don’t even have to wait for them to be mailed to you. How cool is that? The HQ branch also has a coin machine in the lobby that’s free if you have an account. Which I hope you do. Your mother and I would be very disappointed in you otherwise.
