History

Established in 1979.

Long considered the preeminent architectural firm on Nantucket Island,

Design Associates began exporting its refined expertise throughout New England with the establishment of the firm’s second office in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1983. Clients include private real estate owners and developers, municipalities and institutions who seek out Design Associates both for its demonstrated sensitivity to New England’s historic fabric and this energetic team’s ability to create new buildings worthy of future preservation. In recognition of Design Associates’ creativity and technical competency, since 1980 the firm has provided architectural services and consulting for «This Old House», a nationally syndicated production of WGBH-TV/Boston. The firm’s work has also been published in Historic Preservation, Cape Cod Home and Garden, Cape Cod Life, House and Garden, House Beautiful, Boston Magazine, Home, Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, Nantucket Journal, This Old House Magazine and more!

Meet the Manager

Chris D.

Manager

Since 1981, Christopher Dallmus has been a partner of Design Associates of Nantucket and Cambridge, Massachusetts. His over thirty year career as an architect is punctuated by community service, as well as many highly visible commercial and residential projects, ranging from private custom residences and mixed-use commercial– residential complexes, to hotels and museums.

His extensive expertise in historic preservation, land use planning, and adaptive reuse anchors an extensive portfolio of new construction and rehabilitation/restoration building projects.

Mr. Dallmus served on the board of Nantucket Preservation Trust from 2002 through 2008, and has returned to the board in 2009, with his broad knowledge of preservation and historic buildings. He presently sits on the Town of Acton Design Advisory Board, a group of architects, planners and landscape architects seeking to promote small scale, pedestrian-friendly development.
