History

Established in 2005.

We are proud to have tattooed the gentlemen, Curt Schilling and David «Big Papi» Ortiz, of the Boston Redsox, as well as wonderful people from the Cambridge and Boston Fire Departments, Special Operations Transit Police, Special Response Team MIT Police, Amtrak Police, Cambridge and Boston Police Departments, and Essex County Sherrif’s Department. Reps from 195 Entertainment, and Mass Appeal, deejay and producer Redfoxx (www​.myspace​.com/​r​e​d​f​o​x​x​worth), and a couple former nuns (seriously), just to name a few…

Khoa grew up in Vietnam with a different way about him, he was artistic, musically inclined, and had a passion for the alternative. He worked as a tattoo artist starting at his home country and brought his skills over to the States where he’s flourished ever since.

I’ve had a total of 4 sessions with Jason for my back tattoo and it had came out better than I had expected ! Booking an appointment has always been a breeze whether it’s by phone call, email or Facebook messaging with him. He’s a super laid back & chill kinda guy. Every session we had would be 5 – 7 hours long but it goes by quick. His attention to details are top notched! Even when my Phoenix hasn’t been shaded in yet, it still looked dope because the lining was on point ! Jason had always told me that he is willing to stay longer after closing to get as much work done as possible and was never rushing for my tattoo. I enjoyed all of our sessions because he had made me super comfortable and we always had great conversation without slowing down the work. I also liked the fact that Jason always included his opinion as to what I like and what would look best for my tattoo. I’ve gone to other places where I asked the artist for an opinion and all they could say is «if you like it, do it» but they never turned out as nice as I’ve liked it which I will be returning to Jason to have him fixed it up.
His weekends availabilities are always booked though, but I’ve always been lucky to get fit right in due to cancellations. This place is super clean and they use hospital graded everything and their stuff is cleaned by an autoclaved machine ! Jason is the guy to go to ! I’ll never have to go hunt for another artist again ! You won’t be disappoint with Jason !!

Amazing work. Jason tattooed me for almost four hours doing incredibly detailed fine line work – the man is a wizard. He did an exceptional job and was generally just a good guy, really laid back but professional.

I got my first tattoo here last night. This place was recommended to me so I called and they said I could come in. I was nervous because it was my first but Mike made me feel unbelievably comfortable. He was VERY clean and VERY careful. My tattoo was simple but I absolutely love it! I will definitely be going back here for more tattoos.

I am a huge horror fan, I know, does not get weirder than that, but it does! My favorite horror movie of all times is The Lost Boys! The movie is amazing and the soundtrack I listen to on a daily basis.
I have always wanted a Lost Boys Tattoo and Jason at the Skin Art Studio made this happen. Not only is Jason an amazing artist, he is professional, courteous, funny and has an exceptional attention to detail! It is very rare that you find a tattoo shop which has so many talented and just awesome people working there! Skin Art Studio and Jason has a client forever! I would never think of going to another tattoo shop again! Thank you so much!

Ed was very patient and willing to help me make sure I got exactly what I wanted. My tattoo turned out great and Ed really helped put me at ease when I was getting it. Shop Manager Mike Christie gave me a sick tattoo this week. Not only is he talented but also very friendly, accommodating and had a clean environment. I think he changed his gloves about 10 times during the tattoo to keep things safe and sterile. I couldn’t be happier with how my ink came out, I will surely be back.

This is the ONLY place my gf and i go for tattoos. And it HAS to be Mike that does them. Everyone is a great artist there but we have bonded with Mike and he’s awesome. He does AMAZING WORK! My Gf has had ALL of her tattoos done there and she has at least 14. I have had some work done there as well. AND. i had a tattoo that was done years ago by someone else that was totally F’d up, Mike tried his best to fix it without having to cover it up. He did a great job… as USUAL! i can’t EVER say enough about Skin Art Studio, Mike and everyone else there. Especially Jason. He is hilarious. Jason does great work as well. I will NEVER EVER go anywhere else. I only wished they did piercings so I REALLY didn’t have to go anywhere else. And unfortunately, i STUGGLE with trying to find even a good place that pierces. If you are looking for an AMAZING tattoo shop… you HAVE to go to Skin Art Studio.

I live in New York, but I live in Boston in my mind. I was visiting for two days and had money on me and thought I’d get my second tattoo at an actual, reputable place. Did my Google searches and whatnot and honestly there are tattoo places in Cambridge that have better Unilocal reviews than Skin Art, but I called them and didn’t feel the same comforting vibe that I got from Skin Art. I’m SO happy I about my decision. I got this gorgeous tattoo done by who I’m assuming is Jason (didn’t get his name :/​I’m such an idiot) and months later, people STILL compliment me on it. I absolutely love it, and I’m actually heading back to Boston in the next month or so to get another done! Believe I’ll be in Jason’s chair at Skin Art Studio.

So I wanted to get my first tattoo, (mind over matter on the back of my neck). I tried some other places which advertised walk-​ins, but these were the only guys who actually followed through. The guy I had (forgot his name…) was super friendly, made sure to check up on me, and gave me a lot of good information about how to care for my art. I’m considering going back for more, and couldn’t be happier. The only reason I’m going with a 4 stars is because for my little tattoo that took maybe 45 minutes (two words and a line) I was charged $ 150. I’m not sure if this is reasonable, but based on prices friends have given, it seems a little high.

My sister and I walked in here to get our first ever tattoos — and were convinced on getting more ink after our amazing experience! I think Khoa was the guy who did ours, and he was so unbelievably cool and patient with us! He gave great advice and based on that we both decided against what we initially had in mind (which was too ambitious for a first tattoo). But were much happier with what we got versus what we had initially planned. He’s great with small tattoos and we’d definitely recommend people to go to him!

Friends and i went on a road trip from LA to NY and made a stop in Boston for 24 hours (or less) and had to get a tattoo.
Found this shop close to Fenway and walked in. Guys were super nice, seemed nervous! but we had easy designs ready to go.
Had an easy and fun time! Came home with some boston tattoos from born and raised boys.

I came here as a walk-​in on a Sunday afternoon looking to get my Spiderman sleeve done. I had a consultation with Jason and gave him a few ideas of what I wanted along with some of the comic book covers and he came up with a design even better than I had imagined myself. Jason is professional, conscientious, pretty flexible, accommodating, and made the whole experience painless. His prices are some of the best in Boston. The vibe in the parlor is very chill and relax and everyone is friendly. They are all clean and professional when it comes to the actually tattooing. I couldn’t be more happy with the results. The detail on my tattoos are sick. The Amazing Spiderman is truly AMAZING.

Honestly I felt the experience was not great I am slowly getting a mural on my back and love to try different creative places so mostly i am looking for artist to give there spin on my universe theme but the artistic skilled lacked it was more technical he drew my idea on a post-​it and it looked sloppy the Leo constellation the came out ok ish for $ 120 which would have been appropriate if it had more detail and I tipped well only because I came in late and i am pretty difficult to deal with I feel it was more the tattoo artist who was lazy and grumpy not very cool like how i feel an artist should be I do not think i will be coming back and if i do it will not be to that artist.

I’ve gotten three tattoos done here. It’s like a family there and I always feel welcomed when I step in the door. The whole process of getting the tattoo is very controlled and hospitable, not to mention the healing is always done in no time. You should absolutely check this place out, first tattoo or tenth!

For my first tattoo, I wanted my small design that I would be able to see on a regular basis but not explain to every passerby. An acquaintance recommended this shop so I did my research. After a ton of comparisons between the local competitors, I chose Skin Art after I walked in and Jason answered all my questions and gave his expert opinions with a no-​nonsense attitude that I trusted.
During the process, Jason carefully retouched the color until he and I were satisfied that it would be bright enough to see but not so bright to call extra attention. As a testament of Jason’s attention to detail, he commented that he had never spent so long on such a small tattoo. I left very pleased. 4 months later, I am still incredibly pleased and highly recommend Skin Art.

My first tattoo experience really couldn’t have gone any better.
I walked in with a sketch for a Phoenix that was going to require some very careful, detailed line work. I met Jason and we made an appointment for the next day. He was a down to earth guy who really went out of the way to help me feel comfortable. He explained everything to me as he was doing it and really took his time to make sure the lines were precise. He was happy to suggest small details on what might improve the design and we were both on the same page. His lines were perfect and I love how it came out.
The shop was very clean. The chair was comfortable during the nearly three hour session and the price was very reasonable. I am considering more ink in the future, and Jason at Skin Art Studio is the only guy I will see.

They did an amazing job. Khoa (appointment only) is BOSS. He took the time to do custom lettering for lyrics that I wanted because I was undecided on the font — He is an absolute gem! He went out of his way because I was only in town for a couple days and he agreed to take me as a walk in. The store itself is very clean and each artist has their own room. The other artist there with Khoa when I went in was busy working on someones design and constantly taking input from the client and asking a TON of questions. I guess it was the clients first tattoo and the artist was asking all the right kinda questions. — clearly the artists here are perfectionists and care about their clients. Amazing job, I don’t think I can ever go anywhere else in the city! Or the state!

Love this place! Found it thanks to Unilocal!Been here twice with different groups of friends on different dates. Both of my friends were first timers and had Edwin. I had Jason twice. I really enjoyed my experiences here! I always called ahead of time to see if they could accept a couple walk-​ins just to be safe, it was never a problem.
Really friendly, personable and professional folks. I already DO recommend this place to all my pals so I definitely extend that recommendation to all of you!

This review is for both Sarazah and Soky.
The first tattoo I had done here was by Sarazah. I was a walk-​in and had a rough sketch with me. He gave me great suggestions on how to improve my sketch, which I was glad to hear. He was very patient and personable. He also didn’t mind that I had my two roommates with me, who both really wanted to see a tattoo done. Sarazah also touched up two of my other tattoos. All of the work he did for me came out beautifully and I’ve gotten a lot of complements his work.
Soky did a great job on my other tattoo I had done here. He was patient and listened intently to what I wanted done, making sure everything was perfect. He engaged me in conversation and was very amiable. Soky did a great job on my tattoo!
It’s not only the great work that keeps me coming back to Skin Art Studio — it’s also the customer service. If the work was amazing, but the service was lacking, I’d go elsewhere. But this place is all around great! They want to make sure you’re comfortable and taken care of while you’re getting your tattoo done. I’ll definitely be coming back to have more work done here.
