Our services include architecture, interior design, engineering, and planning. With a focus in sustainable design, SMMA has completed projects for recent clients such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI, Providence College, Waters Corporation, EMC Corporation, EMD Serono, Pfizer, Army Corps of Engineers, and various K-​12 schools.

At SMMA, our designers have a keen ability to draw inspiration for a project from anywhere — nature, artwork, objects, etc. However, our best inspiration comes from our clients. I went to high school at Lynn Classical, which this firm designed. The design was terrible. For instance, windows that were supposed to open wouldn’t because they opened inwards and hit their own cranks. I could go on, but I think this article says it all:

I have to disagree with Hana T. in her review of the firm. I have dealt with the firm for many years and they have always done superb work and had a very knowledgeable and skilled team of designers. I’m sorry to hear that Hana was upset about their 2-​tower design of Chelsea High School however having worked with school systems in the past, it is not always the decision of the designer for something like 2-​towers being placed on a school. What Hana experienced may have been the result of design choices and decisions made by the building or school committee and based on their input the firm moved forward with the design requests for how the committees wanted the structure to be.

Poor rating by association!
I can’t comment on whether their other works are great or not, but this is the firm that designed the lousy two-​tower Chelsea High School that I have to deal with for four years (see my review). And it drove me nuts! What were they thinking?
