Hawthorn Inn

I have to admit, I’m not much of a B & B person. But our stay at the Hawthorn Inn might soften my view of B & B’s. First off is the location. Mere steps from Camden, yet far enough away that town is is not an issue. Then there is the inn itself. We were greeted by our host, Ted. We stayed in the Caroline Room, on the first floor, with its king bed, fully equipped bathroom with a great shower, a real closet, and really good Wi-​fi. Of course the room had its «inn» quirks. In order for us to lock the door we had to manipulate the old door to ensure the dead bolt locked. The TV is smaller than my monitor at work, which is OK, we seldom watch TV while traveling anyhow. Is it too cool in the room? In our case the thermostat is located in the adjacent kitchen. This may not be the case inn any of the other rooms. They serve a complimentary breakfast here, and it is a real breakfast– a smoked salmon and Brie quesadilla one day, pancakes with blueberries and nuts the next. First course Greek yogurt parfait was a big plus– as was great coffee. The bed is very comfortable. We slept well at night. The room is quiet despite being on the street side. And the place is spotless! Overall, a nice stay.

Girlfriend brought me here for a surprise bday wknd. The experience and hospitality of Lisa and Ted, and the lady that checked us in was perfect. The breakfast prepared by Ted was absolutely delicious. The room was clean with all the proper amenities. The short cut through the backyard via the amphitheater is perfectly located. We will def come back for a wknd getaway.

I spent one night at the Hawthorn Inn (wish it had been longer) & was very pleased. The Inn is beautiful, warm & comfortable & the owners Lisa & Ted were very accommodating. The breakfast was lovely & the homemade carrot cake left out for nibbling in the evening was superb. A wonderful place, a wonderful experience.

The Hawthorn Inn… the Jewel of Camden ! My husband and me stayed here just last week for 4 wonderful days to celebrate our anniversary ! Warm, cozy, pleasant, inviting, serene, clean, beautiful views, quiet and the breakfast out of this world ! Hats off to Lisa and Ted and Debbie for making our anniversary so memorable. We stayed off season so we were the only guests there and Lisa and Ted made our anniversary even more special with a complimentary bottle of wine and 2 amazing in room massages that Lisa went ahead and organized for us.
We vowed to return to Camden and to the Hawthorn Inn on our next family vacation. Also I can’t thank them enough for giving us an extra tote bag for our flight since our luggage was so heavy after the shopping we did in Maine. So if you want a quality get away with your own peace of heaven and heavenly food by Chef Ted, look no further but The Hawthorn Inn. The warm majestic Inn draws you in and the owners/​staff win your heart ! See you soon Ted and Lisa and Ms Debbie !

We went to the Hawthorn Inn for a weekend getaway to Camden, and could not have been more pleased with our choice. Lisa and Ted were extremely welcoming, kind and the perfect hosts. They were full of information when we needed and were always available – while still maintaining our privacy. We chose to book the relaxation package which included massages and it was the most relaxing and pampering weekend I have had in a long time. The massage therapists were so friendly and professional, and we both felt amazing afterwards. Lisa was even up early one morning when I went to sneak a snack after watching the sunrise – and I walked back to my room with a piece of banana bread (instead of a piece of fruit that they keep out in the dining room). They are just incredibly lovely and warm. I very much hope to return someday soon!

Lisa and Ted (the owners) are amazing! They are incredibly nice and beyond hospitable! My bridesmaids and I stayed here for the weekend of my wedding and I can’t even begin to explain how incredibly helpful they were. Moreover, this is without even mentioning how beautiful the rooms and grounds are, the food that they made, or what a lovely vacation spot Camden makes. The Inn is also just around the corner from Camden’s downtown. I have nothing but the highest praise for Lisa, Ted, and the Hawthorn Inn! If you ever find yourselves in Camden, definitely stay there!

This B&B is definitely 5 stars in my book. The new owners (Lisa and Ted) were fantastic hosts from the time we arrived to the time we left. We were only planning on staying one night and stayed two. The entire Inn was beautifully decorated, quiet and close to town (5 minute walk). The breakfasts were first class. This Inn could be used as a quiet getaway as well as a venue for events (weddings, engagement and bachelorette parties). The front and back yards are lovely. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them at all.

We got very lucky and scored a room at this lovely B&B in Camden Maine. The location is great — a few steps from the quaint downtown area, the rooms are so comfortable and with every ammenity you could want, great breakfast, peaceful grounds include a brook along the edge of the property creates a soothing soudscape for the nighttime. Lisa, the owner, is so warm and welcoming. We had such a great time. This place is worth the stay if you are in camden.

We had a two night stay. Very quant inn. Mary Anne and her husband were very friendly, nice and accommodating. Our spacious room and private bath was in the carriage house next door to the main house. Very private and comfortable. Large king bed, deck overlooking the back yard with a glimpse of the ocean through the trees. Room comes with a sit down gourmet breakfast. There were only two other couples there at the time, so the six of us sat together for two mornings. Nice way to meet people! The inn is a 3 minute walk to the center of town and close to restaurants. Thanks Mary Anne for a relaxing weekend!

I wish I could give them more stars… this was the best b&b experience I have had. Wonderful room, breakfast and company — both the other guests and the terrific hosts. Maryanne and Bill were helpful, welcoming and the kind of people you want to make your friends.
Because of a snowstorm in Boston our arrangements were confused and Maryanne had not expected us the day we arrived. She welcomed us graciously and upgraded our room and we stayed in the carriage house in a lovely room with a gas fireplace, balcony and jacuzzi. It was beautifully appointed, clean, comfortable and had a lovely view of the harbor (and in the summer the view includes the garden). The breakfasts were imaginative and delicious. Maryanne gave us suggestions about a trip north to look at the views and gave us a map so we wouldn’t get lost. She would have gladly made restaurant reservations for us if we had wished it. When we raved about the wild Maine blueberries she offered to sell us a box from the batch she had frozen. We will think of her, Bill and our lovely stay with every bite. My husband has requested that I make him a Maine blueberry pie for his birthday. Thank you Maryanne and Bill for making our brief stay so enjoyable and memorable. We stayed in the Brougham room — it was quiet, away from street noise (although it is hard to imagine there would be much noise). The rooms were well-​insulated and we never heard our neighbors — in fact we were surprised we had neighbors.

There are many things you wish for in a bed and breakfast you don’t get. It’s a personal experience that should feel like home, but with strangers around – YET – my recent experience at the Hawthorne in Camden was the BEST yet, and my wife and I travel frequently. Plus everyone who stayed was someone worth meeting!
You can eat more lobster because the breakfasts are healthy, fresh, and very tasty (good for all palates and if you don’t want what’s offered there’s a second amazing option – for those gluten free, can’t eat greens, etc).
You can walk into town and figure your own way, OR you can ask Maryanne and Bill and they will have the best suggestion 100% of the time. Like you’re a local, just with a camera.
The rooms are clean, spacious and nice – the staff is friendly as can be – and I guarantee you this will be above par with what you’ve stayed in so far, and is the best in the area.
As for Camden – go, just go. Perfect town with amazing food, great hikes and scenery, good water and land activities, and also a nice place to just rest. There are tourists, but they all came for the same reason, to get away, but not be so away you can’t enjoy yourself.

My parents go to Maine every October for my mom’s birthday. I have gone with them twice. They always stay here when they stop in Camden. The innkeeper Maryanne is fantastic. She always has good advice as to where to go and what to do. She makes breakfast every morning… and it never disappoints. I have stayed in the Rose, which is very charming but a tad bit small for more than one person. The last time we stayed we were in the Queen Anne Tower. This was a very fun room to stay in. It follows the roof of the B&B so it is very arcitecturally interesting. There is definitely no better B&B to stay in in Camden.

Had a wonderful time in this bed & breakfast. The rooms are nice and offer a level of privacy not available in most B&B’s. The breakfast, cooked by the owner, may be the best in town.
