I’ve been bringing our car to Gennady now for over 1.5 years on recommendation of a friend and I’m so glad I listened to that friend!
Gennady is one of those rare mechanics who takes the time to explain why you do, or often do not, need a repair so that you really understand what’s going on with your car. Whenever I get our oil changed they always check our tires and fix little things I’d never noticed. One time they fixed a rear light that I hadn’t even noticed and just included it in the price of the oil change.
After taking my car to several mechanics he gave me the best price I could find on sourcing and fitting four tires. After an unfortunate breakdown while out of a town, another garage warned us about a lot of things they felt we needed to change — fluids, battery etc. I took th car over to Gennady for a second opinion — he checked it out at no cost and informed us we really didn’t need to change anything except the power steering fluid and told us to come back in six months to check the rest.
Whenever I call him about an issue he always tells me to drop it by at my convenience and he takes time to drive the car to feel out the problem himself before then taking it in to the shop where he fully inspects it to give an honest assessment.
It is with total confidence and the utmost enthusiasm that I recommend Gennady and A to Z Diagnostics!

I had been servicing many cars at this place (since 2003) and I think A2Z is one of the best independent auto repair shops in the area. Professional, honest, transparent and very friendly. The only problem is that it is sometimes hard to get an appointment :) I always recommend this shop to all my fiends who need a mechanic.

A2Z diagnostics is the finest doctor for my cars for 3+ years. Gennady is the best mechanic I ever had, he does only required repairs and never replaces something just because service manual suggests to replace X, Y, Z hoping that this fix the issue, but always aimed to find a root cause of the problem and then does very specific fix. Here is the MAN you could trust your favorite car-​toy w/​o risk too spend too much money and nerves on repair it.

Gena is knowledgeable, professional, efficient, and affordable. My family and I have been taking our cars to him for a while now, and the service is always consistent.
For example, yesterday I thought something was odd with my brakes. I called Gena, he was in, and told me to come by. I did, he got into my car and drove it for 3 minutes. Getting out, he confirmed — front brakes.
«Best case scenario — $ 230, worst case scenario — $ 370,» he said. Then drove me home, despite my protests that I can walk back as I live close by.
Next day Gena called earlier than promised, told me that the car is ready, we got away with $ 230, he rotated the tires for free, and pulled a nail out of one of the tires, fixing it. For an extra $ 10.
Could I possibly ask more from a mechanic? I think not. Recommend with no reservation.

Yesterday my car broke down on Highway 17 during construction and crazy traffic. My car was smoking, so I pulled over immediately. CalTrans later came by and asked me to move my car about 20 feet back. I turned the car on, and it died about a second later. Fortunately, the car was able to roll back naturally and I got it to where CalTrans wanted it.
Due to the heavy traffic, I had quite a while before the tow truck came. During that time, I did some research on Unilocal and wrote down a few auto places in the Los Gatos area that got good reviews. I called one of them, and it took a while to answer before the person told me to call back in 10 minutes.
That’s when I decided to also check out the Campbell area, and A2Z came up. I called and Gena was immediately asking me questions to try and help diagnose the potential problems. He seemed friendly on the phone and genuinely helpful, and he was willing to set realistic expectations about how long it might take to repair, especially with the holidays coming up.
Between his helpfulness and friendliness on the phone, the Unilocal reviews, and being open until 8pm I decided to bring it in and see what he could do.
I arrived about 5:30pm, and within minutes, he was running diagnostics and explaining to me exactly what the problem was. He still didn’t know –why– the problem happened. However, he was able to explain to me why the smoke was happening, why it didn’t happen in previous situations (even though the problem has existed for weeks or months), and he knew what to look for to diagnose the problem further.
I left the car with him, and at 8:05pm last night, he called to tell me it was repaired and I could pick it up in the morning when they open.
This morning (about an hour ago), I picked it up. It doesn’t smoke. :)
And as far as cost goes, while I won’t reveal exactly what I paid (because I’m not sure he wants EVERYBODY expecting a ridiculously low deal), I will say that I was expecting to pay hundreds of dollars but instead the final charge was so ridiculously low that it sealed the deal and caused me to make writing this Unilocal review my *first* priority as soon as I got home.
Let’s just say I think it cost him more to do the diagnostics and repair than what he charged me. And he’s won business and referrals for life, so it’s probably a good investment on his part. :)
I’ll be referring people to A2Z for years to come. The entire experience was top-​notch, professional, high-​integrity, friendly, and speedy.

I have been going to A2Z for 8+ years and 3 cars now.
Gena is skilled, honest and reliable — about the three qualities a mechanic needs to have. He will never overcharge for the parts or the labor and won’t trick you into thinking something is wrong with the car when everything is okay, unlike those «30 point inspections» at chain car shops.
You will always get a breakdown of the cost, and in many cases he will test a simpler fix before attempting or buying parts for the more costly solution.
Highly recommend — get a quote at another shop and then ask Gena, chances are he will beat the price and do as good if not better of a job!

Excellent place. The owner and his team are honest and open to discuss the issue and ways to solve it. Prices are on very reasonable level and I can trust these people any car, including cars of both my teenager kids.

Great! It is obvious he enjoys what he does. He is interested in figuring out the root cause. In our case the computer was not responding, and he went through components, one-​by-​one, until he found the cause (another mechanic did not insert some sensor fully). We got a break down of the cost, and it was reasonable.
Gena works long hours (open often until 8 pm). He is thorough and honest, and he knows a lot about cars. Highly recommend!

Good honest mechanic! he fixes what is wrong with your car with no bull sh*t and has very fair prices. when it comes to parts for your car he is more than willing to call around to find you the very best deal.
He also very efficient, I took my car in around 3:00pm one day cause the check engine light was flashing, I told him I needed it done by 6:00pm, and what do ya know…6:00pm ON THE DOT he calls me to tell me my car is ready!

honest, reliable and hard working. Gena is very good at what he does. He’s always very accommodating. I had a situation with my battery and he was more than happy to stay open late for me just to make sure I was taken care of. I refered my best friend over when she was having car problems, and he even took us home when we found out her car wasnt drive-​able and we had no other ride.

Gennadi is very knowledgeable when it comes to cars and genuinely cares to get your car fixed. This is a rare combination noways. finding a mechanic that has your best interest at heart and not trying to empty out your wallet.
I have previously called the shop for assistance when my car would randomly start acting up and i was too scared to drive it any further. I was always given good advice. now how many mechanics would offer free advice?
Since my car is constantly having issue I at least know that taking it to Gennadi wont cost me and arm and a leg and i will only receive the services that are actually needed without any extra unnecessary add ons!

I’m no car person. I needed to get my catalytic convertor replaced, and truthfully I don’t even really know what that is. Something having to do with the muffler/​exhaust. Whatever. One of my coworkers recommended this guy to me, and I’m DEFINITELY glad he did.

Sure, his place doesn’t look pretty, but you can’t put a price on HONESTY. Knowing that some guy isn’t dropping crazy auto-​repair terminology to get into my wallet is a nice change, and invaluable. I just moved from LA to San Jose, and I definitely found my new go-​to mechanic.

They offer 24 hour drop off so you can leave your vehicle over the weekend or after hours.
The service is really quick and he offered next day service for replacing my starter.
Gena really knows his stuff and is able to get a really good price on a lot of parts. He is really selective about what suppliers he works with. The price for replacing my starter included a 2 year warranty for the part AND labor.
He charged like $ 70.00/hour which isn’t bad.
Don’t expect a fancy Keurig coffee machine, friendly receptionist, or an HDTV in the store. Gene pretty much handles all the orders himself and the store is also his office, tiny and unkempt. Nope, no frills here but it keeps the costs low so I don’t mind.
