Dance Effects resides in the city of Campbell where it works to inspire the next generation of artists. We provide professional quality dance training for students of all ages and abilities. All classes are taught by qualified teachers in a positive and artistically enriching setting. Our goal is to meet the needs of each and every student. We understand the lessons learned in dance class reach far beyond the studio walls. More than providing a quality dance education we work to inspire confidence, creativity, and positive work ethics among all of our students. Offering many styles of dance to all ages and providing a positive and welcoming place to learn the art of dance is what Dance Effects is all about. We believe anyone can benefit from dance.

History

Established in 1995.

Dance Effects was founded by Michelle Dirck in 1995. In 2007 Dance Effects was purchased by long time teacher and college dance graduate, Katie Warren. Currently Katie Warren acts as owner and artistic director while Michelle Dirck acts as founder, consultant and choreographer.

Katie received her BA in Dance from San Jose State University where she studied advanced level technique in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Her SJSU education also included extensive course work in choreography, education in dance history and dance kinesiology, as well as training in dance production. Katie was a four-​year Dean’s Scholar and received the Spreen Award for Academic Excellence from the School of Music and Dance. She was also a member of SJSU’s advanced performing company, University Dance Theatre, and created many original works of choreography which were performed and evaluated at SJSU dance concerts.

She grew up dancing for 14 years in Montana where she performed in many featured roles in Ballets including the Nutcracker, Paquita, and Who Cares. Katie has also studied at Ballet West Conservatory, Ballet San Jose, Montana Dance Arts Associations and numerous Summer Dance Labs.

Community based studio.
I read Lesley F.‘s review and I completely agree. I have also re-​enrolled my 3 year old daughter at a different studio. I also agree with her that this might be a better place for older age group.

We enrolled my 2.5 year old for the Combo class, let’s just say I wasn’t that impressed. Her teacher had very little interaction with parents, she never approached me once about how my daughter was doing. When my daughter would get distracted from the routine, she would do very little to correct the behavior. It seems like this school is geared for older children, and maybe shouldn’t offer classes for children under 4 years old. I have since dropped her from classes all together, and have her enrolled elsewhere, which she seems to be doing much better. Her new teacher is very warm, approachable, and has patience for the littles in her class.

It’s for sure one of the best dancing schools in the area! Teachers are very friendly, the room is clean and although the waiting room gets a little packed during class you still can see your little one dancing through the open wall. I absolutely recommend this place!

My daughter took one year of combo class at Dance Effects when she was in preschool and she had a fabulous time. Her teacher Ms. Jenn was fun and full of energy. My daughter can be a handful at time when she starts goofing around but Ms. Jenn redirected her in a firm but positive and very age-​appropriate manner. The class was always very engaging for my daughter, and I can hear her laughing all though out the class. I also really like the open studio they have so that you can look in at any time.
I gained a new appreciation of this studio when I sent my daughter to a different studio the following year which was closer to my house. Dance Effects overall was by far friendlier, more open and at the same time seem to product better dancers! The children also seem happier and kinder to each other which is probably a direct result of the atmosphere that the teachers and the owner create in the studio.

My daughter practically grew up dancing at Dance Effects! They offer a large variety of classes at different skill levels. All the teachers are amazing and truly care about each student. This is a great school that not only teaches your child many forms of dance, but also team work, camaraderie, commitment, perseverance, and friendship. The Performing Company Team really challenges and grows the dancer to perform and compete against other local dance schools. The Recital at the school year is always amazing!

Dance Effects is a great studio for kids of all ages. The little kids have fun learning various types of dance while playing movement and stretching games. As they grow, many of these kids turn into very talented dancers. The end-​of-​year recitals are so well done and really showcase the talent. Opportunities for dance team competitions as well as recreational classes in different styles of dance.

This was the first place I started dancing and they have taught me so much! I felt like I was and still am part of a family there. I am now dancing at Fresno State University in their Company and pursuing a career involving dance.

Dance Effects is a wonderful dance community for children to learn the discipline and joy of movement and dance. The students at Dance Effects learn more than just discipline, they learn teamwork, build self-​confidence and develop creative habits and skills that will be available to them for the rest of their lives.
Being a dance instructor and performing arts professional since 2003, I have taught in multiple settings and environments. Dance Effects is an awesome place not only for students but for its teachers. As one of Dance Effects’s instructors, I absolutely enjoy working at this studio-​its organized, professional and mostly importantly fun.
I highly recommend Dance Effects to anyone looking for a dance studio for their child to be part of.

My daughter (age 7) has taken the Combo class with Ms. Jen, and the Pre-​Ballet II class with Ms. Katie. Both teachers are patient with young children and get them excited about dancing. The classes feature a nice balance between learning technique and choreography. While performances are clearly important, they (and therefore the associated costs) are optional — a bonus for children that are not performance-​minded.

We are very pleased with Dance Effects. Our daughter is enrolled in Creative Movement taught by Ms. Katie. She is so energetic AND patient. My daughter absolutely loves going to dance each week. We’ve been so lucky to find a dance studio that is willing to work with students so young. It’s definitely not an easy task to wrangle toddlers and teach them to wait their turn and follow directions but Ms. Katie has done a fabulous job and the students have learned so much in just a few short months.

I love Dance Effects. Ms. Katie is so kind. My daughter loves going to class, I never have to force her to go. This is the 3rd ballet studio we’ve been to. I like the way they do their performance. It is not stressful and runs seamlessly. The kids only have to perform on one day which makes it much easier. She has lots of people helping. The parents get to just sit and enjoy the show. The costumes are age appropriate. I think the price is good and the location is great. The studio is always clean. I am glad my daughter loves going!

My daughter has been taking classes at Dance Effects for the past 4 years and has taken ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and contemporary classes. She was also on their performing company dance team last year and really enjoyed it. She has made great progress and development in all her classes and loves all her teachers. This is a great dance studio with wonderful teachers who encourage and foster individual development. They pay close attention to the dancer’s abilities and ensure safety at all times. We highly recommend Dance Effects. Give Katie, the owner, a call. She is talented, gentle and can direct you to the best class (es) for your child.

My girls have been doing ballet with Katie for 4 years and still loving it! Every year there is a Holiday Spectacular Recital which is great for a smaller group. And then there is an end of the year Summer Recital which is always a big hit! I am always excited to see what Katie as put together for the choreography! It’s a great place to join! Ideal location and price is reasonable.

My daughter has been going to this studio for about 4 years now and she is enjoying every minute. Ms. Katie and Ms. Jen do a great job in encouraging my daughter to come out of her shell and be the best dancer she can be. From what I have seen, all the teachers are encouraging and love working with the students. I have seen so much improvement and confidence in my daughter that she even jumps at the chance to perform in dances at school. I visited several dance studios and did trial classes for my daughter before choosing this studio. My daughter was 2.5 and I wanted her to be in a class that both encouraged her love of dance and laid a good foundation for technique. I chose this studio because I was really impressed with the owner and ballet teacher Katie and her philosophy that embraced a great balance between these two things. We have been very pleased with the classes as we round out our 2nd year in the program. And the communication is always very clear and organized. The price is also reasonable for this area. We just participated in our first recital and I was very happy. All of the teachers were very encouraging, it was well organized, the tone backstage was very positive and the younger girls were really mentored by the older girls. My daughter loves her classes. First she did creative dance and then moved on the pre-​ballet. Her teacher is positive, patient, kind and fun while also teaching the girls to listen, wait their turn, follow directions and love dance. Perfect for my 4 year old. She also has an older student help with the class which is a great experience. My daughter adores the big girls! It is located in downtown Campbell in a really cute, well kept, spacious dance studio with wood flooring, bars attached to the walls, full side mirrors, good air flow, an observation window and bathroom. They offer a variety of styles. Call and talk to Katie. Do a trial class in your child’s age group. I think it is a great place to learn to love dance and develop some great technique. Come join us!

As an experienced early childhood, music and movement educator, I have seen many dance classes for preschool age kids. None of them compare to the classes taught by Jen at Dance Effects.
I was looking for dance lessons for my 4yo (will be 5 in August) when I discovered Dance Effects. As soon as my daughter tried Jen’s class, she and I were hooked. Jen keeps the class flowing with the perfect balance of energy and clarity.
My daughter has learned so many specific dance moves and steps that she now incorporates into her dance improvisations at home. I cannot imagine a better early foundation for building dance technique than Jen’s classes.
And Jen creates this professional level training for these little ones with not even a glimpse of the kind of boring moment you see in most kids’s dance classes (as teachers often struggle to keep kids still while they ‘teach’ something). Jen integrates experience and information brilliantly and effortlessly. As a parent who stays and watches the class, I am never watching the clock because the class is so much fun :-)
