Staff is amazing and you can clearly see the love for the Animals. My appointment was at the Fremont office but was scheduled with the Campbell location. Prompt to respond both via phone and email. After a long battle with a skin rash I brought my Dog Daughter here and they were able to figure it out in minutes. I can’t thank you enough! 5 STARS!

Sadly, I would not recommend this place unless you like poor service along with unreasonably high prices. For me, it’s three strikes and you’re out.
I came here because my dog had been scratching incessantly to the point that she was pulling out clumps of hair.
After I arrived and checked in at DFA, an assistant came out to waiting area and said they wanted to take my dog to the back and look at her skin (i.e., not in my presence). I hesitated because it was my first time there and I hadn’t seen the vet yet but then convinced myself that they’re just going to check her out, thinking they wouldn’t do anything without my authorization. They ended up taking a biopsy of a cyst without my authorization. Strike #1
After they took my dog, I was then brought into a room a few minutes later. The vet Dr Doerr came in about 10 minutes later with my dog. It was at this time that she informed me of the biopsy. I was in a little bit of a shock at the time and therefore didn’t bring it up as an issue; in retrospect, I definitely should’ve called them out on it right away. She discussed a couple of options for my dog: 1) take daily medication, and 2) have a skin allergy test done.
A skin allergy test seemed a bit much at this point, but I was curious and inquired about the cost. But the vet responded «Front desk will review price with you. We want to focus on treatment plans». I politely asked again and she refused to tell me with the same response. It wasn’t until I pressed her again that she gave me a ballpark figure. Strike #2. Btw, it was over $ 1000. I’m guessing this response is defined by corporate, or it was Dr. Doerr
I ultimately went with the recommended daily medication Atopica, as this was consistent with what another vet suggested. The medication helped but my dog had major diarrhea, which is a documented side effect. However, I found out that DFA prescribed 2x the recommended dosage for a small dog like my Shih Tzu. I asked DFA why the dosage was so high but never received a response. Strike #3.

We bring our 12 year old Beagle here– who suffers from severe allergies. Firstly, front desk staff is usually very friendly and quick. The techs take you into a freshly cleaned room– you see them doing it– cleanliness is important to them and I appreciate that. One of the techs is always excited to see my dog, not fake at all, genuinely excited to see him… Details like that make you happy to come back, even given the price.
Dr. Doerr is our pups dermatologist and we are thankful for her. She is thorough and knowledgeable, and always has suggestions to help. After over a year of coming to D for A, our dogs scratching is at an all-​time low.
The only thing is the cost associated with all of these services. It’s high, but you wouldn’t go to a cheap doctor for a problem that was bothering you every second of every day would you?

We rescued a lab-​mix dog a year and a half ago when she was estimated to be about 6 years old. Immediately we noticed that she had some skin issues such as allergies. After getting some antibiotics from our local vet hospital to subdue the itching (this was during her first wellness checkup after we adopted her), we decided to take her to a specialist in order to see what exactly was going on, as she is constantly licking her genital region and scooting her butt.
After hundreds and hundreds of dollars spent (could be even close to or above $ 1000), a food trial, and making several trips down to Campbell from SF, nothing was resolved. We tried anti-​itch medication such as Apoquel, but the vet kept suggesting we try something, then take her back for a follow-​up in a few weeks. Each visit was several hundred dollars.
Finally we gave up and just took our dog to our local vet hospital again. She took one look, immediately said that our dog had a hooded vulva (basically extra folds of skin around the genital region), which can lead to increased bacterial and yeast infections, and can be solved with a simple surgery. She also suggested that if it wasn’t the trapping of moisture by the extra skin, it might be because our dog has incontinence due to her age.
I’m really incredibly disappointed that the dermatologist didn’t suggest either of these, even after multiple visits and the same recurring issue. Definitely feels like they’re just out to get your money.
Also, if you can avoid it, don’t buy ANYTHING from them, because it’s so much more expensive than if you were to buy it online or at a regular store.

I brought my 5.5 pound maltipoo, Lola, here based on a recommendation from my regular vet. After getting a dental cleaning, we had noticed that Lola had a patch of shaved fur on her right hind leg. It wasn’t healing even after our vet had prescribed Tresaderm drops as a topical ointment, and the patch seemed to be getting bigger. The hair around it was thinning out, and it was starting to really concern us. We really wanted to avoid getting a biopsy, so we came to Dermatology for Animals for a second opinion.
They are busy! We were very lucky to get an appointment on a Monday morning with Dr. Schick. I didn’t realize until we saw her that she only comes to the Campbell office twice a month, as she lives in Arizona. She is great. She’s so friendly and kind and informative, and I felt like she really cared about Lola. She was very good at answering all of our questions about types of treatment and reactions. I asked her a question about whether or not to give Lola heartworm medication because I didn’t want to give her medications if she didn’t really need them, and Dr. Schick gave us a helpful answer explaining why she would recommend it for a dog living in California.
Pet dermatologists are rare and hence EXPENSIVE, and we came to Dermatology for Animals because we were referred by our vet. However, if your dog or cat has a skin problem, this is a good place to go. They are specialists, and I felt like Dr. Schick was extremely knowledgeable and very approachable.
Have your wallet ready! Our preliminary visit was a total of $ 253.The initial exam was was $ 187.50. This price does not include any further tests that need to be run or any medications your pet may need. The cytology was another $ 65.50 (this was done when Dr. Schick brought Lola to the back to examine her closely under a larger lens to make sure that she didn’t have an infection– we stayed in the office visit room and did not get to see this). Lola was diagnosed with a rabies injection reaction and prescribed two medications: one to take by mouth and another topical ointment. Since Lola is small, the medication needs to be sent to a compounding agency in Arizona to be made into smaller doses. This was another necessary expense (but to Roadrunner Pharmacy).

After five years of telling my vet group that my little poodle was suffering from severe allergies for her whole five years, I looked for the name of a vet dermatologist and found this group. The dermatologist did testing and began treatment immediately. I feel as if I have a new healthy dog. She is able to rest quietly without constantly scratching and her coat is growing back. I just feel quilty for not taking her to the dermatologist when it first started.
They are well worth their fee.

I hate having to give this place only two stars, as the vet we see is wonderful and really helped my dog with his severe allergies. But the customer service on the support staff side is just awful. In almost two years of going there, I’ve encountered maybe one or two friendly people at the front desk. They are always busy and always have you wait, no matter what time of day it is or if the waiting room is completely empty. Add to that the fact that they are automatons to Official Policy, and it’s just depressing. I called a few weeks back to cancel an appointment because I woke up with a 102 degree fever… and was told that their policy is to charge for a cancellation. I was hoping to spare the staff and vet from contracting my flu, but the front desk person was adamant that I must come in with my flu in order to not be charged! The office manager did intervene (after I was already dressed and on my way out the door) to say that she would waive the fee, but ONLY ONCE, so I’d better not ever have an emergency again. And, I’d have to PREPAY for my next visit. Their refill policy is also ridiculous. I generally refill with lots of time to spare, but once in 18 months I needed to get something in 24 instead of 48 hours (because I was going out of town and miscalculated by 1 pill.) Again, the front desk was cold and unhelpful. The best they can say is that it might be ready, they’ll put a note in the computer but they can’t make a guarantee. I think for a patient that is very loyal and spends thousands upon thousands of dollars at the practice, maybe count 30 pills in 36 rather than 48 hours? I wish I could go elsewhere, but, unfortunately, canine dermatologists are not that common. I’d recommend using this place as a last resort, and keeping your service expectations very low.

Ms Zoey had been on her meds for over 6 months and seen huge improvements. No more constant licking and or scratching. She can enjoy chewing her bone and not her skin! So glad to have my happy and content puppy back.
It may seem a little odd my dog has a dermatologist and I don’t, but I have opposable thumbs and can remedy most my issues. She depends on me, and the help of Dermatology for animals. Very thankful we found them!

Dr. Doerr did an excellent job diagnosing my elderly husky’s food allergies, which were complicated by thyroid problems. She went from balding red patches, back to her beautiful coat in a matter of weeks. The prescription food they had, didn’t work for us. But once her thyroid levels were normal, plus continuing her allergy and flea meds, dry bison food has been an adequate choice. It’s expensive, but they diagnosed her problems after the first set of tests. I’m grateful. Thank you.

I would give this place 0 stars if possible. Long story short, we have been a customer for a few years and even made a referral for a new client. The doctors here were able to help my Dalmatian’s allergies and get him on a prescription diet. After realizing they charge about double the price, I was buying the food from his primary vet clinic. I was unable to purchase the food from his primary vet due to a shipping problem, called up Dermatology for Animals (STILL A CLIENT AT THIS OFFICE) and they refused to sell us the food. They tried to say since they have not seen him in x amount of time, they could not sell us the food. Remind you, they wrote the prescription and we bought the food from them for years. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE…

They are extremely professional and good at what they do. My cat received the best of treatments and is no longer in torment from her «former» skin ailment.

My 2 year old pug came to the dermatology office because we was scratching to the point he was bleeding. When we came to this office it was a huge relief because they were able to go over all of the possibilities and figure out that he had a food allergy. We were able to change his food and solve the problem fairly simple. The office is very clean and staff is friendly. I would recommend this office to any of my family members and friends.

I can not even begin to say how much I love this clinic! After dealing with my ex previous vet who mistreated my dog’s severe skin condition which was due to underlying allergies. I was recommended here by my friend. Thank god! They have been my saving grace and my dog is now a happy healthy puppy. Joyce is by far mine and my dog’s favorite tech. She is always so nice and knowledgable. If you want people who know what they are talking about and have great bedside manner here is the place to take your dog!

I brought my dog to see Dr. Sakai to get his skin cleared up before orthopedic surgery. Very friendly and knowledgable staff and a very attractive office. I love this clinic. The dr. went over many options for treatment, and chose the least expensive one since we’re looking at a pricey surgery. She even made up estimates for additional treatments if we see fit. My dog had diagnostic work done (skin scraping and FNA), and four medications. I was pleasantly surprised with the price of the visit considering it’s a specialty practice. If I were to get an exam, tests, and same medications at my regular clinic, I would have easily had to pay 100 – 200 dollars more. I even got a great discount! Definitely the one thing I loved the most is that the Dr. didn’t try to rush into any extreme and pricey treatments. I will definitely recommend D4A to anyone.

I HIGHLY recommend this clinc. The staff is VERY FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGABLE.
My dog had a weird lump between her toes. The doctor was very nice and educated me a great deal about the different meds he recommended and what they did. Lucky for us, her paw is much better!
Before I took Penny to the Dr. there, I took her to a place in Santa Clara, off of Lawrence Expwy. They did SEVERAL tests and had absolutely no idea what was going on. Several hundred dollars later, they finally recommended us to Dermatology for Animals. THANK GOODNESS! I wish they had referred us sooner.
The Dr. told us that what happened to Penny’s paw was pretty common. He educated us about the condition which made us feel a ton better. He also sent us home with some meds and she got better pretty fast!

After going through all my regular Dr’s hoops, (which were very good ones) we finally got sent here. We could tell our Dr. (Dr. Megan Frazer) was very good.
She listened to our questions and concerns, asked her questions and did her tests. Afterwards, she gave us a prescription to follow and after 3 days, our dog is already showing results.
Great place to take your best friend to.

If I could do it all over again, I would choose a specialty field like animal dermatology! The best part about this clinic is that the doctor is friendly and truly loves animals. He did a wonderful job of diagnosing Honey’s allergies and finding the most cost-​effective way to treat them. Thank you so much!

Dr. Jazic healed my baby after many previous vets and meds had been tried. We got results right away. The cost was reasonable, the staff helpful and customer service… fabulous!
The whole office is clean, it smells nice and the rooms are clean and set up more like an office or sitting room than a clinic type room. My cat actually likes the visits to their office, he is very comfortable and not scared or nervous at all. I would DEFINITELY recommend them, and have!
A very pleasant experience, every time.

What do you do when your dog would rather eat their own foot for dinner instead of the top-​of-​the-​line dog food you buy for them??? Find a dermatologist for doggies that’s what!
Our female French Bulldog, Lola, has been suffering with itchy paws & ears off and on for quite some time now. Every trip to the vet they would prescribe a steroid which would only help temporarily. I wanted to get to the bottom of this insane itching hence the decision to consult a doggie dermatologist.
Dr. Jazic made quite an impression on Lola & I. He came in the consultation room & got right down on the ground with Lola and starting loving her up. This, of course, made Frenchie & Frenchie mom quite happy. After a thorough exam, he explained to me what could be the culprits & gave his recommendations to get to the right answer. Very knowledgeable, very understandable & VERY much a dog lover.
The office staff were super nice & all made sure to come give Lola love too. All instructions for the upcoming weeks were typed out and gone over really well.
I feel confident that soon, Lola will be eating just her new rabbit & potato food rather than her own feet. Thanks to Dr. Jazic & staff for making my little Lola feel better & loved.

I took my puppy to Dr. Frazer because he was starting to get really bad allergies. He was rubbing his face and biting his paws constantly until his skin became raw. Dr. Frazer explained to me the possible reasons for him acting this way. Right now we are on a food trial and she gave my puppy some meds to soothe his pain/​itching. He is on his way to recovering.
I had actually wasted money on a couple of other Vet visits because they didn’t tell me or give me anything to prevent him from doing harm to himself again. If your pet has any skin issues I would totally recommend you to go straight to the Dermatology for Animals instead of just a Vet. They see skin issues every day and would give you the proper solution and reason.
