More expensive than dealers and sloppy work!
Well I am going to have to agree with most reviews this place is very bad. They are more expensive than dealers (Mazda and Honda) and they do sloppy work. I purchased a set of tires there so I take my van in for the free tire rotation and cheap oil changes. I received a call saying that I needed a new air filter. I did not think to ask a price as how much can it be really? Well $ 41.00! The Mazda dealer only charges $ 36 and the auto parts store charges $ 16. This was on top of the $ 5 to install it. I had the notion to check under the hood after I got home to make sure I at least got the new filter. I noticed that they had not topped off my windshield wiper reservoir (almost a gallon low). I then decided to pop the caps off of my battery to make sure they check the water levels. Every battery cell was down at least ¼″. I decided to take the van back to let the manager take a look and at least have a chat with the mechanic to be a little more attentive. What I received was a line of crap from two mechanics and the manager. It started with «you know you have to put distilled water in batteries!» I’m thinking well at least they know that but that is hardly an excuse for not checking. After they realized that was not going to cut it they said that «you can not check the water in today’s batteries they are all sealed.» I invited them out to take a look and then the reply was we don’t have a «license» to check the batteries, they did not want to look at my battery. «They have acid in them, don’t you know?!» Wow, no kidding! I have worked with a lot of goofballs but these guys top the list. I have been wrenching on cars since I was twelve and know my way around under a hood. I just don’t have time any more. I just can never trust my car to them any longer, free tire rotation or not. I have to re-​check everything including spare tire pressure, transmission fluid level, brake fluid etc. Just take your car to a dealer, at least they do a good job when they charge $ 120 hr for labor.

NO STARS!!! This is the worst place ever! I took my car here for a new tire and at the last minute decided to get an oil change. Jim calls me to tell me my car is a catastrophe waiting to happen, looks like my car hasn’t been serviced in 4 years (when actually it was 4 months ago), tells me I need all this work done. After consulting w/​a friend, I agree to have them replace the radiator hoses. Jim calls… the radiator broke — says it’s not their fault… it’s Honda’s because they use inadequate materials, basically holds my car hostage until I agree to pay. My car breaks down 5 days later… I find out Goodyear used a damaged after market radiator hose and I now have more problems w/​my car! They are rude, use scare tactics, to convince you to get work done on your car that is not necessary and use poor parts.

I would not trust these guys with anything but the very very basic.
My tire was leaking air and I took it to them and said do whatever it took to fix it. They guy called me and said they just needed to clean the inside of the tire and the wheel !! I asked to check the wheel to make sure there is no rust etc. They said they did and charged me $ 20 for «cleaning» the tire and wheel. The day after I had a flight out of of SFO, got up in the AM and went to my car only to see all the air was leaked out !!

I’ve taken my car there for years for oil changes. Never again. They couldn’t bother to replace the crush washer, which is manufacturer required for my car. So instead of properly refitting the drain plug with a new washer to ensure a seal, they jammed the old setup back in and tightened the hell out of it. Next time I go to my mechanic I’ll have to see if they damaged the oil pan.
The other bad thing about them was the surprising list of «recommended services». They called and said they found a few things that should be taken care of… did I want them to do all the work? I said no, which turned out to be a good thing… they wanted to do over $ 600 of completely unnecessary stuff. Like changing the spark plug wires… if that were needed the really excellent guys at Foreign Affair in Santa Clara would have done it years ago.
Put them down for negative stars from this former customer.

My wife and I came here recently an oil change. The guy behind the counter was a complete ass/​smartass. This is how it kinda went down:
US: What’s the extra charge for?
ASS: It’s for oil additives.
US: Oh, we’ve never had to get it elsewhere. What does it do exactly? Is it necessary?
ASS: It makes your car run. You do want you car to run, don’t you?

US: We work at Company X and we’d like to get the 10% discount.
ASS: Ok.
US: What’s the total amount after the discount?
ASS: It’s the total minus 10%

yup… LOUSY…all the way… Jim is the Manager and couldn’t find his ass with both hands… Dave is the smarmy mechanic who said «you don’t want your girlfriend to be stranded, do you?» They put in a $ 350 alternator for another $ 160 (I got a break off the $ 200 install price since they popped on $ 400 worth of tires) only to have my car break down THE NEXT DAY because the battery was bad… hmm-​m-​m-​m wonder about that «bad» $ 510 altenator job v. $ 120 battery… hmm-m-m-m…don’t waste your time with these bozos…

This place was a total nightmare when we were trying to get one of our cars fixed here.
We dropped off our car on a Wednesday and was told that the car would be ready on a Friday because something was wrong with the water tube (?) Can’t remember. With that in mind, we decided to share a car with each other for 2 days and I would give the fiancé rides to work, even though his company was 20 minutes away from where I worked. On Friday, we went to the shop to pick it up and the same guy told us that it wasn’t ready. We were already annoyed at the fact that he didn’t call us ahead of time to let us know. He said that the shop needed another 3 days to get it done and that it was on their priority list, so the car would be finished by Monday.
Early Monday morning before we went to work, we swung by this place to pick up the car. Once again, the guy told us that they needed A WHOLE WEEK to fix the car. And what was worse was that they lost a few screws to the fiancé’s engine! The fiancé and I were SUPER PISSED by this point in time and demanded for them to fix the car ASAP or else we were going to tow it elsewhere. The guy didn’t seem apologetic at all and told us to come back by Friday.
Friday morning, 1 ½ weeks later, we went back to the shop. I was ready to sucker punch the worker for all the crap he’s done. He told us that everything has been fixed, but charged us $ 600 more than what he had quoted us!!! FOR A MISTAKE THAT THEY MADE!!! We were completely furious at this point. The fiancé demanded to speak with his manager. When the manager came out, he didn’t really care that the shop had made a mistake and that it was «an uncontrollable circumstance». O.M.G. If I wasn’t a 5′ 4″ Chinese girl, I would’ve clobbered those 2 retards.
We managed to get a $ 400 reduction but still ended up paying tons of money for the service that was done. I feel the pain of the other Unilocalers who’ve written on here.
*** Oh yeah, I just checked the Better Business Bureau and 6 complaints have been filed against this shop within the last 36 months. ***

We have had nothing but problems here! Purchased 4 new goodyear tires only to have the car pull to the right. Bugged us until we were told by our mechanic that it wasn’t the alignment, it was a bad tire. Took it back to the shop to find that 2 of the 4 tires were bad. They wanted to charge us a prorated amount for the new tires! Now the car is pulling again, and it is back in the shop. Not treated very well throughout the process.

Friday, 9 am: «We can easily get these brakes fixed for you today. No problem»
Saturday, 11:55 am: «Your vehicle is ready. Oh and we screwed up, so it will cost you an additional $ 125.»
I should have gone with my gut instinct and taken my truck to the dealership. Seriously, what a mess this place is; from the troubleshooting of a simple problem, to not listening when I (the consumer) tell them what the f***ing problem is and how to fix it, to the brake fluid that they let spray all over the vehicle… awful.
I also asked to have a mysterious oil leak checked out and they told me that oil was pretty much everywhere (almost like I had a leak that needed repair, hmmmmm?), and that I should have it steam-​cleaned somewhere else and brought back so they can take a look at it. Baloney! I will take it somewhere else alright; to some folks with some damn hustle and who are willing to do what needs to be done to earn my money.
The brakes are spongy and the parking brake is now ineffective. I’ll fix it myself because I don’t want to deal with this place again.
In other words, this place is the stereotypical auto-​repair shop.

At the recommendation of a service manager at my car dealership, I take my car here for tire needs. I wanted to go somewhere that didn’t try to rip me off and tell me that I need new tires when I really didn’t! (Beware of Big O Tires on Saratoga Ave. because that’s the way they do!!) Anyhow, the guys at Good Year are pleasant, let you know what’s going on with your car, AND they have never tried to sell me tires when I didn’t need them!
