H&R Block

Albert Wu is an outstanding guy. He has been preparing my taxes for several years now. I recommend him and this H&R Block location. Their hours are quite convenient.

I have never filed my taxes at this particular location, but I walked in needing my depreciation worksheets for 2013 because the branch I filed my taxes at last year (H&R Block off of Winchester and Williams) is rude, unprofessional, and refused to give me a copy of my tax returns. The nice staff at this location were more than happy to give me a copy and didn’t try to push me to file my taxes at their branch. I really appreciated that the staff their took the time to help me (which they didn’t have too). I will consider filing my taxes at this location next year.

I came in to get an estimate on my taxes, and within 10 minutes, I was in and out the door. In the past, I had very good H&R block experiences, but this time, the tax preparer did not even go through my paperwork in the system. Instead, she told me how much it would cost to prepare it, and if I didn’t want to go through it (as in, if I was not happy with the refund in the end), she would not move forward and waste her time. Well, ok then. Thanks anyway?
In previous H&R Block experiences, the tax preparer would put my numbers in the system, offer me options, and provide me consultation throughout the process. This experience was the exact opposite. Unfortunate.

This is the most efficient H & R Block I have been to. Unfortunately I did not get the receptionists name, which is my bad, she was there last year too and is so capable of keeping everything running smoothly in the midst of many rude and impatient procrastinators that feel they should be the priority. We can’t all be #1, but if you make an appointment, you will be served accordingly. It’s no different than being at a doctors appointment you show up on time and they take you in, and unknown to them the person before you may have more issues than anticipated and it may cut into your time a little delaying your appointment time, but they will serve you as promised. My tax preparer Susie Tran (24 years experience) is the BEST. She gives good advice on how to save money, and advises me not to wait until the last days to file. I too am a procrastinator, but I am a patient calm procrastinator, she will complete your taxes with great satisfaction and in due time Uncle Sam will have my money not a day too soon. Next year I may take a page out of the receptionists husbands play book and go to H & R Block for Valentine’s Day and then my spouse will not be annoyed by my procrastination, and Uncle Sam doesn’t need to be paid until the due date and with Susie’s advice I may just get something back next year.

Very Bad place to do your tax returns !!
1. The person who helped me with tax filing [Jane P] completely missed adding my moving expenses in the adjusted gross income section for my federal tax return. When asked for an explanation she said that it is part of itemized deductions [which i didn’t even claim this year — used Standardized deductions].
2. The service was horrible — Jane didn’t care about any numbers [she was doing typos that i had to correct by overlooking]. She was in a rush to go somewhere and ended up not answering any of my questions properly. It felt as though she was doing a free tax return service.
3. I complained about this moving cost error to the manager and they assigned another tax professional to file an amendment and I am waiting to get a refund for my moving expenses.
4. Overall, I ended up pay 220 $ for such a bad service/​mistakes done on my returns. What a waste of my time, money and energy.
I have been to other H&R blocks in the past years [sunnyvale] and they were really good in answering questions and the returns were accurate.
But this H&R block in Campbell doesn’t seem to be serious about their customers’ returns [Jane’s mistake and the manager’s reaction to the mistake was very casual by just asking the receptionist to make another appointment for amendment].
If the return is simple, try using a software like Turbo tax/H&R software to file your return. Or get help from Tax professionals whom you really know/​trust from past experiences in H&R block/​liberty tax. Don’t go by the H&R brand blindly.

I used HR Block for the first time. Very disappointed and won’t do so again. They bring you in with low ball fees but they fail to tell you that EVERY single extra paper they need to fill out will cost you another $ 10 or more.
Also, the woman I worked with asked me to have my investment company email her a 1099… supposedly it was missing. I called the company, they sent it. My HR person added it in without checking (it was already in her paperwork) and had I not caught the error I would have been paying double!
This is the first year I ever paid over $ 400 for having my taxes done and the first year I EVER had such a horrible mistake made.
I won’t ever go back and I will make sure everyone I know, knows the reason why!

Ken Chae is great. Recommended several friends and family to see him and everyone has been happy. He is thorough and does a great job! Ken is very personable and professional. He always has a smile on his face and you feel like you’re seeing a friend.
