Engadine Inn and Cabins

Holy vacation, Batman.
I stumbled upon a Groupon for Honey Hill Inn & Cabins when planning a trip to Asheville, without ever having been there. To date, it remains the best value I’ve gotten for accommodations anywhere and the best Groupon I’ve purchased.
My best friend, her husband, and my boyfriend stayed in the two-​bedroom Mount Mitchell cabin. We had the most spectacular view of the North Carolinian landscape you could imagine.
Gretchen was an AMAZING chef and expertly cooked an outstanding breakfast for only $ 18/​person additional (although breakfast is included is you stay in the actual inn – makes sense, since our cabin had a full kitchen). All of our other meals we either ate in town or prepared in our cabin, which had all of the most essential tools and supplies you need.
On a post-​breakfast stroll through the winding property, we were escorted by a friendly barn cat, who led us to a clearing that anchored four different-​colored Adirondack chairs set next to one another, all facing a picturesque view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
In the evenings, we played board games on the front porch and watched movies in the comfortable living area.
When we were feeling more spunky, my friend and I both rolled down the massive hill that is set right in front of the Mt. Mitchell cabin. We actually did this as we were about to be back on our way out of town, so we loaded up the car first and our guys picked us up at the bottom of the hill. Yes, the hill is that big. :)
This remains one of my favorite and least expensive vacations. If it’s even remotely on your mind, go!

My husband and I just returned from a great weekend in Asheville. We usually stay at various hotels downtown but decided to try a cabin instead. It was a little difficult to find (Google Maps dropped us off miles away the first two attempts) but once we found it, everything was great. I was hesitant about staying in a cabin for a few reasons — spiders, safety, distance from downtown, etc. I’m happy to report there were zero spider sightings despite an all-​wood cabin, we were perfectly safe and the distance to downtown was completely reasonable (roughly 15 minutes). The Looking Glass cabin was so adorable we even discussed building/​purchasing one just like it in a few years as a second home somewhere. The cabin had everything we needed and was well-​taken care of. We loved the small electric fireplace which heated the entire place nicely, so much that we turned the central heat off altogether. I saw another review in which they said their cabin didn’t have cable, but this one did. My other favorite piece was the large porch. We spent mornings out there drinking coffee and tea and looking at the mountains. Additionally, the two staff members we met were pleasant. Gretchen (owner?) guided us to the cabin on her golf cart, welcomed us inside and showed us how the fireplace worked. She was very sweet. Tom checked us in and was perfectly nice. (My husband called the next afternoon to ask him a quick question though and said he was very rude and short with him. I almost didn’t believe him, but he never gets bent out of shape about bad service like I do so for him to mention it, it must have been bad. Perhaps we called on his day off or woke him up from a nap?)
We loved Honey Hill and would recommend it to anyone who asked! We hope to return later this year!

We rung in the new year at one of the private cabins (the smallest one, since it was just myself and husband). We usually stay in Little Switzerland but a friend stayed here last fall and I saw her pictures and knew we had to try it out. Not only was the cabin clean and adorable, but it was very close to downtown Asheville. The views are what take your breath away. Nestled on the side of a mountain, you get unobstructed views. I could stare at the view all day long. As it was too cold to enjoy the Adirondack chairs and fire pit (as you see in the photo), we did cozy up to our own fire inside the cabin. The new owners were very nice and are doing a lot of work to further beautify the property. We are planning to go back this summer.

I took my girlfriend to Honey Hill as a surprise and we were not disappointed. We stayed for two nights and each morning we had a specially prepared breakfast. You can alert them ahead of time concerning any food allergies (gluten free for instance) and they tailor your meal to that. The new owners were very friendly and courteous.
The room we stayed in was very clean. Some of the original items (such as the sink) remain intact from the early 20^th century. In the spring time, I’m sure that the vineyard view will be amazing. The bed was also very comfortable.
The location is about 15 – 20 minutes away from the Biltmore and other sites in Asheville. By staying here, you’ll get to stay somewhere that is rustic and secluded for a relaxing time.
This was the first bed and breakfast that either of us have stayed at before, but it was such a wonderful experience. We would gladly go back and I would recommend this place to anyone else.

Took a chance on staying at Honey Hill during a trip to Asheville via purchasing a Groupon/​LivingSocial for it, and my fiancé and I were incredibly satisfied with our stay.
At 20 mins. from downtown Asheville, Honey Hill is in a great location. Right off the highway, yet tucked away so you feel secluded.
We had a pleasant stay in the main house, with two breakfasts that met our dietary restrictions and were still scrumptious. The caretakers were welcoming, accommodating and provided fresh cookies, fruit, and coffee/​tea during the day. The house has a fun assortment of books to leisurely read, and little bit of property to explore – including fun brightly colored chairs looking toward some rolling hills.

Absolutely wonderful stay at Honey Hill! Gretchen and Cheryl really made our stay special. We loved every moment. Especially the food! I only wish we could have stayed longer! They were so warm and pleasant and super helpful and accommodating! Our first time at a bed and breakfast and we can’t wait to come again! The house is very nice, comfortable and peaceful. They set out fresh baked goodies each night. My husband I and I always looked forward to it. It was a great weekend!

We spent our 7^th Anniversary in the Balsam Cabin. It was great. We grilled our meals for the weekend and just hung out in the quiet of the cabin for two days. The cabin was clean and has all the modern amenities except cable. But we made the noise from one of the 4 channels work for us. Our only regret was not having anything to play cd’s on. But we’ll be better prepared next time.
It was a great escape and I can’t wait to go again soon.

We just left this fabulous B&B today and am already missing it. I had purchased a Living Social deal and my experience was top notch from beginning to end. The innkeepers, Cheryl and Gretchen, could not have been any nicer. Sometimes, when I have used a voucher from Groupon or Living Social, the merchant has been a bit standoffish. Even though the main purpose of these deals is to introduce you to their business. That was far from the case here.
Our room, the Mary Hoyte room, was large and impeccably clean. The bathroom was also quite large. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The room has a comfy couch in a little nook plus a nice chair with footrest. The closet accommodated all our bags comfortably. We did not hear any noise from our neighbors. And we did have neighbors. From what I saw, I believe that none of the rooms actually share a wall with other rooms. I might be wrong but that is what it looked like. We did hear a bit of road noise, but only in the morning.
That was the «bed» part. Now for the breakfast. Each morning my senses were awakened by the wonderful aroma of breakfast being prepared. Let me start by saying that I really am not a huge breakfast person. But oh, my goodness! That was some good stuff! The first morning, we had amazing French toast stuffed with strawberries and accompanied by the most deliciously crispy bacon. The 2^nd morning, we were served a cheese, bacon and spinach quiche which was equally delicious and I don’t even eat eggs! Both meals were preceded by a fruit course and were both really yummy. Not just sliced fruit.
They have the cutest little doggies that allowed me to give them a little cuddle since I was missing my pup.
The grounds are beautiful! I only wish that we had more time, and better weather to explore some more. Next time. And there definitely will be a next time.
