Superior Glass Block & More

Similar experience to Bill B from 2014 Unilocal review. Appointment was scheduled 5 months ahead; I was requested to send pictures of the current windows in Email, which I did. (Two windows are fully or partially under a deck, so those were photos from inside the house.) Important to the story: in those 5 months leading to the appointment, NO ONE came to the house to look at the windows, or called me to ask for more information, or provide a copy of the contract, etc.
Forward 5 months: It’s now 24 hours before the scheduled appointment, and there’s been no call to me to verify day and time, no contract, no indication of any prep needed on my part at the house. So I Email the company with these questions. In Email, I get the time they’re coming, copy of invoice (front, not back with terms of warranty), and my only prep needs to be access of arms length around the windows. It took 3 Email exchanges to simply get all of the answers. Bad sign.
The team of 3 shows up to start the job and immediately says there are issues. Two of the Windows are framed inside by paneling and molding, and they say are going to have to damage some of it to get the windows in. What? Since when? No one told me this prior. I started putting options on the table. Can’t get the glass block in from the outside? Nope still have to wreck the paneling. I call the office and then the whole tone at the worksite changes — oh yeah, they can do it and will be able to get the frame out without damaging now (although I will say person at the office said they would call me back after they talked to the crew and they did not). Jeez. Then I hear the inside install on a window under the deck can’t be put in all the way. Ok, why not? Well ma’am that plastic on the deck side is in the way. well buddy it’s a $ 2 piece of plastic trellis — so cut it and I have another in the garage to replace it if I need to. Again, show some problem solving skills to come up with or even suggest options, or even just ask me if you can cut the plastic to do the install right. it’s all no — no have to wreck the paneling, no can’t install right since there’s plastic in the way. Argh.
Then, well I won’t be able to trowel here I can’t get at this window by the paneling. I will have to trowel with my finger. What? I go to my storage room, grab a step stool, take in to the window, stand on it — hey look buddy, I can get at all the corners of this window, so if I can get at it, then you can trowel it.
There was a kind of «pat the little lady on the head» kind of tone to it from one crew member. Well ma’am, yknow 90% of installers don’t trowel their installs but I always do mine. listen bud I’m not a dufus — I’ve had this project done 4 times at different homes and its troweled every time. And I’m the one proposing options on all of your seemingly insurmountable issues. Again this is important later in the story.
Then it’s look out for shards of glass on stuff after we leave. No pick your scraps up. He was brushing glass off a box onto the floor behind the box. Dude, look, you can pick a box up and move it — presto! And then sweep the floor back there. I picked the box up and moved it. Again, just ask if you can move the box to clean up, or ask ahead of time to move it before you start. Simple problem solving.
OK they’re done — time for the walkaround. Remember Mr 90% of companies don’t trowel but I trowel everything? His window half under the deck was not only not troweled, it was not even filled with concrete around the perimeter outside! Nice job buddy. His crew member finished the job.
On the plus, the windows look nice. And The one guy who seemed to be the crew lead was the most responsible — worked the hardest on the job, assured me it would be right, handled the walkaround and payment, shook my hand at the end. The third guy seemed only there to be outside, mix concrete, and be on his cell phone — maybe he felt he had to watch the truck. Mr Trowel should get himself a job somewhere else or go to school to learn problem solving and customer service.

I recently had 3 glass block windows with vents installed last week.
Both the sales staff on the phone and the installers were very helpful.
The job was completed quickly and the quality of work is good.
I would definitely recommend the company and will use them again when I decide to install an egress window.

Very accommodating. Straightforward, professional, clean, and smelled fine (big concern for me, and the competitor I had come to price smelled like an ashtray). Very happy. Easy egress job. In and out in about 3 hours (I already had a window and well there, they just replaced the window).

As a contractor I’m always in need or a reliable source for pre assembled windows. Called chuck at superior glass block within the week my window was ready to pick up and exactly the size I needed.

I had five basement windows replaced with glass bricks. In the company’s favor is that ordering their pre-​assembled blocks of bricks for standard-​sized windows is cheaper than paying someone to mortar them in one brick at a time. And from talking to several people I got the idea that glass bricks are preferable to other options. Be advised that you may have to request the work several months in advance; I did.
There were some major negatives. It turned out to be an all-​day affair, because they forgot to bring out the fifth window replacement. One crew member came back late that afternoon to put in the last window. That fifth replacement wasn’t done with adequate finesse. A large hunk of concrete was ripped out of the foundation; an attempt was made to patch up the resulting hole. There was extensive damage to the wooden paneling under the window from ripping out the tape that held the previous window covers. Not only were large strips ripped off of the veneer on several of them, but one panel was itself ripped out of its backing. Repairing this will be a pain or impossible. I didn’t catch it right away because most of the damage was hidden behind bookshelves. Neither problem occurred with the other four windows. When I spend $ 550 upgrading my windows, I expect it to increase, not decrease, the value of my home.
For this fifth window in particular but for all of them, the cleaning up outside the house was adequate but inside there was a great deal of spilled concrete and cement, from one-​inch sized chunks down to dust, left on the window sills, book shelves, rugs and floor. I was told that they used to have a vacuum, but «somebody stole it.» The company could, of course, come with sheets to cover the work areas, and other clean-​up equipment and practices adequate to the task, but this might increase the cost because of the added effort. I of course can’t say about that.
Both the owner himself and the telephone message confirming the installation stated that it would begin at 9 AM on Monday morning. When the crew finally arrived at 10:20, I was informed that «9 AM» means «any time between 9 and 11.» I suggested that they instruct the owner to stop giving out false information. As the first job in a stack they were already behind on, the crew chief complained a bit about the poured concrete foundation he would have to deal with and not liking such surprises on houses he hasn’t seen. There’s a simple cure for that: the company could request this information up front.
If nonetheless you do use this company, I recommend that you at least sign up to have the work done on some day other than Monday.

This company is the SINGLE most accommodating and professional company i have ever worked with.
We were doing many remodeling projects this winter and had Kurt and the team at superior put in our egress system and glass block windows.
These people know their stuff.
The job was precise, completed in one day, they pulled permits, they did EVERYTHING!
Honestly, I cant hardly believe anyone else gets any business with them around.

They called me out of no where!
I get a call at 9 am one day from this company saying that i have an appointment With them to check out my basement glass.
They some how have my first name and phone number
I dont know why or how they got my info
But i couldn’t really understand why they called becuase it was kind of early and i did’nt have to get up for another 45 mins
ive never spoken to them in my life
When i had time to call back, i called around to see if anyone told them to call me
And no body did…
I called them back to tell them to put me on a do not call list or something
And she started to get an attitude with me and getting all up tight about me asking to be placed on a do not call list
And says i have to figure out how they got my number myself
Not a big deal until she started showing me major attitude
Ive never been a customer to this company, nor have i dealt with anyone except the receptionist who was in charge of the phones that day
Ive never seen their work
And i never would like to after what happened today
Its funny because its like they called me looking for a bad review

Last year I had a broken small window in the basement so I decided to replace with glass block as well as replace a garage window with it for safety concerns and because I like the way it looked. It took about 10 days to have them come out and have it custom made and install. The service was great and I was very happy wih the pricing, a good company to use.
