Sunday afternoon 2pm, Newly weds trying to grab a drink we opened a tab since we knew we were hanging out for a while after a 4th drink got told by the bartender that I either needed to drink water or else she wouldn’t serve me… I was not doing anything I was literally enjoying drinks with my husband simply singing/dancing(not outrageously or in any improper way) and wanted to continue having a good time but somehow this girl bartender felt the need to make decisions for me… I’m sorry but I’m a full grown adult and I can responsibly drink and handle my alcohol or else I would not be coming out to bars to drink publicly I’ve had double the amount of drinks at other bars and not gotten told to drink water or else ONCE. with that said I was in such a great mood that sure I said yes to the water and while waiting for it asked why she felt the need to suggest that I drink water against my will and her response was«I’m not talking to you anymore» excuse me? for asking a simple question? so I thought okay maybe I’m coming on too strong(by just asking a question) I know sometimes people are too sensitive so I thought to myself okay let me probably lower my voice maybe than I can get an answer, so I did I told her I’m lowering my voice now why do I have to drink this water for that I was told I was making a scene and that she was going to call the cops on me… AGAIN for asking a question… that’s when I had it and had to go… I was so upset all I did was have a couple of drinks again just singing along to the music THEY were proving I seriously did not know that it was illegal to sing or be happy while drinking… I DIDNOT know that fun wasn’t allowed while drinking at a bar… I’m young(21) and can see why she would think I can’t handle my alcohol so she wanted to cut me off should I have apologized for having a high tolerance? I was so upset my honeymoon afternoon was ruined by a strangers assumptions that we headed straight out of town I’ve never been treated with such rudeness never have gotten in any bar drama or problems never have had 1 single complaint about my behavior while drinking… on the way back home my husband tells me the whole reason she was picking on us and making outrageous accusations was because apparently we did not tip her… YES for not tipping as I mentioned at the beginning we had an open tab and I’m sorry but I don’t tip after every drink I tip when closing my tab it just makes sense to me specially when there’s no physical money involved. and to be honest really she was being very nice at the beginning its when she noticed she wasn’t getting tipped after every drink that her nice attitude changed REAL quick… and again if she would’ve just waited if she didn’t assume none of this would have happened… and in the end if you get to read this bartender there’s no law that states that I need to tip you or any bartender serving drinks is YOURJOB that’s what you signed up for when you applied to be a bartender and I understand the industry you involved yourself in and know that bartenders don’t make much so if your nice and do your job correctly sure I don’t mind tipping I know I’m supporting you with my tip with that I have no problem but EXPECTING a tip for doing what your already getting payed to do and getting angry when you don’t see it or get it is just plain sad… be nice to customers because it’s your job not because your expecting a tip that’s just you exploiting people with your fake customer service. and WHO knows I know everyone is going through different things in their life maybe she really needed the $$$ I don’t know why else shed act so frustrated and angry about it but seriously it was coming that’s all I have to say… overall the bar was great! awesome location and really good drinks! I had something called a chelada & I loved it! it was great but to anyone that considers checking this place out better remember to tip after everyyyy drink even with an open tab or else this girl will raise hell…

Cool bar. Like most bars, how fun it is depends on what kind of crowd and how many people show up. It’s small, and sometimes the crowds can be a little sketchy, but they’re pretty quick and friendly.

This place is the absolute worst business in Capitola. It brings down the whole village. Women need to stay away from this place. i cannot remember a time i have been to or even walked by this place without being sexually harassed. The owner could care less and it seems his trashy customers are a reflection of him. YOUAREBETTEROFFATANYOTHERBAR!

Use to like this bar. I don’t remember what the bartenders name was(Some younger guy) but he barely paid attention to males when it came to bartending. Sat and waited for a drink for 15 minutes, then last call is called out at 20 minutes then I was still ignored as he served all his friends and women only. Told the owner about this and I bet nothing will be done about it. Don’t really care about the tough guy locals there either. They take the fun away. Especially the pool tables. I will never go back to this bar unfortunately.

In town for my son’s soccer tournament and got alittle stir crazy at the hotel so I headed to the beach amd found this little gem of a bar. I was welcomed by the locals and staff and ended up closing the place down. Laid back atmosphere, great jukebox, and good drinks! The place got really packed around midnight so they shut down the action at the pool table closest to the door nearest the bar but the back table stayed active and functioned quite well even in such a cramped space. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

Horrible service, can’t play pool here unless you want to get in a fight. I’m shocked it stays in business. There are much more FUN places to go! Don’t bother.

Worst service I’ve ever had at a bar, the bartender and his friend were taking one of the two pool tables for 5 games. While my group and I.(All paying customers mind you.) were sitting waiting for a game. You’re working, get behind the bar and do your job. Let customers play pool… That’s what they’re there for. Also, the bartender wasn’t friendly or happy to be at work. I will not be giving this establishment my time of day. Customers deserve respect. I’m not saying wait hand and knee for me, but you should forfeit the table to paying customers as soon as they show up and want to play. CONSIDERINGYOUREGETTINGPAIDTOBE A TENDEROFTHEBAR.

Music, drinks and good company while watching the 3 point shoot out, with a lil evening food for Valentine’s Day, our bartender was great! Now the tall bobcut blond bartender, was rude n made some snide comments about our bartender, so not cool!!!

Frank makes a beastly meatball sandwich, and this coming from a plate of food guy. Bread is crispy on the outsides and soft inside wit a delicious tomato based marinated meatball. Yum!

Last night myself and a group of female friends were being harassed by a frequent patron of this bar and he refused to leave us alone. After about 10 minutes of arguing with him I asked for security at the door to help me out. I usually don’t say anything and just try to ignore the person but last night I had enough!(I’ve had multiple run-ins with this particular man). When i asked for help this is what happened: Security lied and said he was an owner(I know who the owner is) and said there was nothing he could do about it. He then proceeded to mock my complaint and told me that I «could fucking go tell a bartender or something or file a fucking complaint with someone else» but he couldn’t help me. The lack of professionalism with this individual was disgusting. He made me feel unsafe and actually told me to try out another bar. Seriously? I will think twice bofore I bring business to this bar. Too bad because its one of my favorites.

The bar sucks. A bunch of locals and one girl in sweat pants and flip flops floundering over the pool table. Nathan(the bartender) likes to yell at people who have fun and make noise on the tables(Insert hand slap on bartop here) and his cronies are his biggest fans(guy in white shirt). Weird place, sausage Fest. Nathan stay behaved your bar and give women dirty looks and don’t address their husbands… poor thing :-/

I usually love this place! Great drinks and bartenders… definitely a fav local spot… BUTWATCHYOURCREDITCARDTRANSACTIONS! I went there on JULY11, 2014 for my bday and brought a ton of friends with me and I gave them my credit card to keep my tab open. I only purchased 2 drinks for myself and then at the end of the night after last call the bartender asked to close out with me and gave me my card back with a charge for 15 $(2 drinks) and I left a 5 $ tip to total 20 $…this transaction went through on my credit card on July 12th… however, there’s a second transaction that went through on the 13th for 22 $ that I didn’t authorize!!! I have called my credit card company to dispute the charge so hopefully it all gets resolved!

Cute bartenders, cheap drinks, strong pours, and a friendly local crowd. What’s not to love about this place? The best no-frills bar in Capi/Santa Cruz!

First timer and happy! Small place but it does the job. Had the niners game on and the jukebox playing. They have 2 pool tables which were being used. It wasn’t crowded but not empty. The bartender makes an awesome STRONG drink! Would come back again and hoping for the same service!

I was told about this place by a friend. It’s walkable from my house and I had no idea which place it was in the village. We went after Cava. It was definitely more of a 20 – 30 something crowd like we were looking for… The bartender was super friendly and the door guy ran over to the juke box and started up some Biggie. Pretty stellar start… You may ask 5 stars? But, in my opinion I weigh the ratings against similar spots aka other bars and for the category it ranks tops! I may have a new favorite watering hole.

Compliment to the Bay Bar — I left my backpack and jacket behind — totally forgetting I brought it in. I had important documents and belongings in my pack. about 24 hours later I walked in to inquire on whether my pack was there. The bartender thoroughly questioned me on the backpack and identifying features. I approve of this kind of behavior, as many work supplies were inside of the pack. I trust this place. Since that time I’ve gone in with my friend regularly to discuss work and good times… and it’s a locals place. One evening I watched one unsavory individual walk into the bar and start causing trouble. The Staff confidently and calmly handled this problem child and extracted said person without incident. I will definitely make this my regular local hang out with cool local people and responsible staff. Thanks Bay Bar.
