Castle Perilous Games and Books is the largest Tabletop game store in the tri-state region of southern Illinois, western Kentucky and southeastern Missouri. We stock over 200 different board games, including Settlers of Catan and expansions, Carcassone and expansions, Talisman, Cards Against Humanit, Axis and Allies and Munchkin. We stock over 120 different RPGs including Dungeons & Dragons, GURPS, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu and Savage Worlds, as well as miniatures games such as Warhammer 40,000 and Warmachine.
We also stock the areas largest selection of Magic: The Gathering packs and singles, as well as packs and singles for both Yu Gi Oh! and Pokemon.
We also carry a large selection of both new and back issue comic books as well as a large selection of graphic novels and trade paperbacks.
Gaming tables available daily as well. Check out the store calendar on our website for daily events, including regular Magic, Pokemon, Warhammer 40K, Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Yu Gi Oh play.
History
Established in 1990.
Castle Perilous Games and Books (the name was taken from the legends of King Arthur) opened in Feb 1990 in about 250 square feet of space. Over the years, we slowly expanded and in May of 2007, we moved to our new location, a ground floor storefront in downtown Carbondale with over 4000 feet of space.

We started selling role-playing games, boardgames and miniatures games in the Belleville, Il. area in the mid 80s. Moving to Carbondale, we saw the need for a good tabletop game store in town. We started off focusing on RPGS and miniatures, then added trading card games when Magic hit the shelves in 1993 (our first order was a deck of Alpha and 2 boosters, which sat there for about 2 months until after GenCon when Magic took off).
Gradually boardgames and trading card games grew as categories. Due to customer requests, we added comic books about 5 years ago when we moved to our current location.
