Carlsbad by the Sea Resort

Great hotel! Really close to Costco, legoland and the outlets stayed 8÷2÷15−8÷5÷15. Was great Also has very good breakfast. :D

THE WORD «RESORT» IS MISLEADING. JUST A STANDARD OLDER HOTEL.
So if our first visit last Nov. wasn’t rough enough, having left our home right next to construction for some much needed peace, quiet and sleep, only to be placed in a room right next to this hotels construction work and issued a «down room» in error, by very un-​friendly front staff, this 2^nd stay truly topped it off.
I was previously able to speak to Hector Bacerra, the Hotel Mgr, who was quick to apologize and offer us another chance to try them out. The rude employee he stated, was new. He was still there however and still less than friendly. You just feel like your imposing on these folks no matter what you come to them for. Same for visit #2
2^nd Visit 1.16.2016:
Rm 229 — Did not get issued a refurbished room as was given the first time. My two important hygiene areas are bath n bed. Both failed for me. The bath shower curtain looked like a litter of cats had been playing and scratching at it for days. The toilet had something sitting at the bottom, and the base was dirty and looked bad. Hardware seiously rusted out.
We had to keep both hand towels around the base of the bathroom faucet as it leaked like a siv. My iPhone 5S that I used only for looking up info, was submerged when we got back to our rm the first night to find said leak. Just upsetting as hell.
The bed is FIRM!!! I mean, very. I dropped an earring, and upon our necessary hunt under the bed, a number of trash and unidentifiable objects were presented instead. GROSS!
The refrigerator kept us up with its cooling issues, as did our next door guests.
We didn’t know this was a Legoland designated hotel. HAMERCY!
The guests are nowhere near as bad as the Maids tho, who show up early, crank up the radio and begin banging loudly around the room, yelling loudly back n forth down to other rooms and end with banging the vacuum against your bedside wall.

Never could get a sign on for WIFI so used a considerable amount of data when it should have worked.
The darn TV is so hard to use. Channels have completely different coding and you cannot just enter where you wish to go. No info. Can’t flip thru the guide. Sucked.
We made 4 attempts to reach Hector the Mgr to no avail. Was told at check out by the two ladies there that they never kow when he’ll show up, as it’s so random. Really? Well, no wonder we got no responses from him.
At this point it deserved a review…
If you’re going with your kids you’re going to have a fine time. The breakfast however is very sub par. We didn’t use it the first time but we tried it one morning this time. It’s basically a frozen egg and sausage patty that has been heated up. Other than that you have your basic fruit, breads, toppings and cereal. Trust me, there is little nutritional value at the breakfast table.
As we came back from breakfast we were really surprised to see how many old food plates and trash were laying about the property. There were four filthy dirty food plates sitting on a bench not covered up at our stairwell that clearly came from TGIFridays next to the property. They don’t deliver dinner there so someone must have brought it in. Next to one of the rooms upstairs from us was someone’s dirty underwear that they accidentally dropped. I certainly wasn’t going to touch it but because a maid was right there. I knew she would grab it before she went on her way. When we arrived back to the room that same pair of underwear was still sitting there. I have to wonder why these women who call themselves Maids don’t clean quietly and look at these things around them. It’s inexcusable.

Great place to stay for Legoland. The employees are incredibly friendly, rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Free shuttle service to take us to Legoland saves you $ 15 for parking.

We stayed 2 nights and the hotel provided a comfortable stay which was conveniently located close to Legoland (free shuttle provided by hotel) and outlet shopping across the street. Breakfast is free at the hotel, but not super appealing. But keep in mind, breakfast is FREE and will at least get your day started to hold you over until lunchtime. There is also a decent amount of restaurant options within walking distance. Good value, great location.

Nice place to stay in near San Diego area.
Inside Garden is very cozy. Each room has balcony and all stuff you need for comfortable overnight stay.
They also have hot tube on the territory, but have no chance to use because there was no bathrobe in a room. Not a big deal.
Breakfast is pretty avg, but for sure eatable when you hungry.
For the price we paid there, place is pretty cool.

So we checked in on Saturday night after going to Legoland which was only 5 min away!
Receptionist was nice check in was fast and easy,
The rooms were nice, only problem our heater wasn’t working it was blowing cold air. I called the front desk they sent someone within 10 min he fixed it in 5 min
The next day they had free breakfast which was so yummy, omelettes sausage coffee orange juice cereal bagels they had yummy options
Check out was at 11 which was great since we didn’t want to be rushed.
Definitely staying again.

They did not take the check in coupon so don’t even bother checking in.
Rooms are okay, but the outside and the rest of the hotel is very old. Safety issues too as you are facing a Main Street across the outlets. Your room door is exposed to the public street.
Get breakfast somewhere else. It sucks.
I only saw three employeees. One at check in, she didn’t smile at all and she looked very annoyed with her job. One at check out, this is the one that didn’t honor our check in.
And there was one at breakfast, she was cleaning the tables with her mouth full.
Stay somewhere else. Pay a little extra to be comfortable and have the safe feeling.
We only stayed here, just because they didn’t have a room available to stay two Nya at legoland hotel. I’m just glad that night is over and now we are here at the legoland hotel lobby which is totally awesome!

Just stayed here with my family last week and we went with some concerns after reading the reviews on here. However, are concerns were unfounded. We had an excellent time. The room was fine, no noisy refrigerator, no bugs, no scratchy towels. The free breakfast was good but if you didn’t like it there were plenty of other options near by, including a brewery that opened at 7 am. We found the shuttle drivers always curtious and safe. Near the sea and Legoland I thought it was a great location.

I love the location more then anything. A minute drive to the beach, walking distance to many restaurants, close to shopping, walking distance to the outlet mall, really close to Coaster Station (we take the train to Old Town San Diego). Also the staff was nice, the van driver took us to a few places for free and he was nice. I do agree with the comments when they say its not a resort, its not… its just a Hotel. I have stayed at better hotels for sure but I like this place for the reasons I listed above. The breakfast, room and pool were just fine for us. For the price this place is great. And I would stay here again!

This place will be shut down in the near future… what a terrible motel. They call this place a resort which is laughable. I stayed here with my wife and 2 year old son for a wedding and hated just about everything at this place.
The room looked nice but that’s about where it ended for positive remarks. The towels were scratchy and cheap, the bathroom wasn’t fully stocked, both beds creaked and made so much noise that it was next to impossible to sleep in them, the walls were so thin you could hear people’s conversations as if they were in the room and the refrigerator made so much noise that it managed to ruin and peace gained by not moving in the noisy bed.
The grounds around the hotel weren’t much better. There were beer bottles and cigarettes all over the place. Trash could be found just about everywhere. There were also spider webs all over the place. I tried to let my son run around the central area but he kept getting spider webs all over him.
My personal favorite was the TGIFridays attached to the hotel who said it would take over an hour to get seated for just my son and I on a Saturday with barely anybody else in the restaurant. We were additionally completely ignored by the bar staff when I tried to order food to go.
In summary this motel doesn’t spend the time to take care of their building and doesn’t seem to care for the comfort of their guests. Considering the amount of competition surrounding this area I predict this place will close or be under new management soon. Time to clean house over there.
Stay somewhere else for a good time in Carlsbad. This place was awful.

We stayed at the Carlsbad by the Sea Resort this past weekend because of a wedding nearby-​we thought we’d save a good amount of money vs. the wedding block at a hotel down the road. We did save money, but when we look back we should have just spent it to have peace and comfort…
The king-​sized bed frame squeaked, no matter what side you were on. The refrigerator was super loud and made weird clunking noises. There were beer bottles on the grounds and one night there was a group of people standing outside our door and it sounded as if they were inside our room-​the door/​walls are super thin and we could hear everyone walking by. The towels were like cardboard and there were no tissues in the metal tissue box sitting on our toilet.
Like I mentioned before, we should have just spent the money and stayed with the wedding party. The pictures of the outside make it look quaint and nice, but it really felt like a Motel 6.

I don’t know who are these people & I wonder if they were paid to say nice things about this horrible hotel. We picked it, thinking it’s closer in destination to legoland & why pay $ 20 more if they are close in distance. Well two miles away on the other side make a great difference. If that was only issue we had, I would have given it a five but the ceiling is low, the carpet is beyond dirty, the towel had a smell & the ones at the pool were just as awful. I have never stayed in worser hotel. It should be called an inn really & that would not fair to the inn because I am sure they are nicer than this place. Completely horrible. $ 189.00 a night. Horrible. PLEASE don’t touch the phone, bring Clorox wipe if you must use it. Beyond dirty. The refrigerator is loud in the room & the we got the fan not air from the air conditioner.
UPDATE: call them to tell them my experience & they said I should have called them before I posted my review. Interesting response.

When I checked in on Unilocal it said I could have a 25% discount. when I took it to the front desk to use it they said that was a third-​party thing and that I had already gotten a good rate and they did not give me the 25% discount.

This «resort» is a joke. The office staff and maintenance workers are rude. I experienced a «water bug» issue in not one but two of the rooms I reserved. Not once did the staff apologize they looked at me as if I was crazy and thought by sharing their at home bug experiences with me would make the situation better. I was offered 2 free movies, as if I wanted to sit in the room and watch a movie with the bugs.
Yes, this hotel is a great location if you are visiting Legoland BUT totally not worth sleepless nights and waking up with bug bites.

We just returned from a family vacation to Carlsbad, for 5 days of Lego Land. We stayed at Carlsbad by the Sea for 6 days. I could not say enough good things about this place! The staff was all very accommodating and nice!
They provide a FREE shuttle every 15 minutes to and from Lego land. I was concerned that we would have to drive because my kids are still in a car seat and booster, well, they provide that in the shuttle as well! There is free breakfast provided, all the rooms have a view of the pool and a lot of shade, and the grounds were kept well groomed.
They are located right across the street from the outlets– which was really nice and convenient. There are a bunch of restaurants around in walking distance.
The only things that were not perfect were the pillows and Wi-​Fi. Instead of 1or 2 regular sized pillows the beds (in a double queen room) had 2 small square pillows (about half the size of a king pillow) per person (4 per bed). The pillows were not uncomfortable, it was just awkward to try to keep your head on one throughout the night. We ended up asking for regular ones. The Wi-​Fi was spotty and inconsistent.
All in all, we will definitely stay there if we ever are back in Carlsbad!

First off, let’s get this clear, by this place using the «resort» in their name is going to get them some slack. For anyone who’s actually stayed at a resort there is no doubt this place is not resort living. It’s a great place, don’t get me wrong, and I enjoyed my stay and would come again… but this is not a resort.
What this place is… it’s a great hotel. I rented 2 double queen rooms with a connecting door. I requested to be placed away from the main street and close to the Friday’s that is attached to the hotel. I asked for extra towels and pillows. And I made sure to express how very important it was for my sanity that both rooms were very clean. Everything that I asked for I received with a smile and a «let us know if we can do anything else for you».
My 11 year old niece and I were very happy with our stay and so were the 6 of her friends that came to slumber party it up with us for her birthday.
I’d like to say sorry to anyone who happened to have a room near us for the NON STOP giggling that went on all night. I tried to smother them to sleep but it didn’t work.

I love the VINTAGE DUTCH feel of this beautiful place. We stayed for four nights. Checked in on Thursday June 4, 2015. Checked out on Monday June 8,2015. We had a great room with a balcony on the second floor room 266.
When we checked in, everyone at the front desk, was busy. To my surprise they were fast, apologetic and efficient.
Our room was clean and a good deal. Two full or were they queen size beds? Four small pillows per bed, clean linen, A medium size TV, an alarm clock, good size desk that doubled as a table, a chair with 5 wheels, phone, microwave, mini fridge, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, and 10x magnifying mirror which I really appreciated.
Breakfast starts at 6:30am. It was great to see fast staff keeping up. The coffee started to run out and HERMINIA (worker) was putting in more. The friendliest staff member of all was Herminia, she did her job with a smile on her face on both Friday and Monday mornings. The eggs and sausage were delicious every time. The cereal, fruits, breads and condiments were constantly restocked. Herminia made her job look effortless and fun.
The coffee was always hot and not burnt like at the other resort that we were at before.
Legoland has parking at $ 15– per day. The minivans that take you to Legoland from the hotel are free both ways. They start at 8:30am, look and smell clean too. The drivers are friendly and knowledgable. We tipped them every time.
The swimming pool was really heated. It was 9:30 at night 65°. The pool felt great. The jacuzzi felt so relaxingly good and hot.
We lost our new sandals that night and did not realize it till 2 days later. They had them in lost & found.
Housekeepers are honest. We had a different lady every day. Jewelry, money and other valuables were left out in our room and NOTHING WENT MISSING. I asked for extra shampoo and they gladly gave me what I needed. The shampoo, lotion, conditioner, soap etc. have a pleasant aroma of orange peel.
I enjoyed everything in this gorgeous vintage Dutch resort, but I was expecting a horrible experience because of the bad reviews. We stayed here because all other places were booked. It’s less than ¼ mile away from the ocean. We paid about $ 500 in total for 4 nights. If you come here don’t complain unless you want to spend $ 200 to $ 400 a night and drink burnt coffee like we did the first night elsewhere.
We have stayed at other places, in other states and countries. I have paid a lot more and got so much less.

Booked the hotel online, Because of location. Very close to Legoland and the outlets.
This hotel is not a Resort! they do charge a 5 dollar fee. Small upgrade from a motel 6. Rooms are dirty, abused, and old.
— The pool stays open pretty late and it’s ok size with a nice deep side.
— Open Parking lot shared with couple other businesses really hard to fine a decent spot near your room
Only Pro was the breakfast. Hot food vice Cold Food.
Last thoughts,
Just pay a little more to get that resort feel. Don’t settle with Cheap.

For the price, this place is great! You can’t beat it. I found Carlsbad by the Sea on
and booked it right away. I wanted to go somewhere with a pool and the free breakfast was a plus! The hotel itself is a little outdated but the rooms were really nice. They came with a fridge and microwave which was awesome since we had left overs from our dinner.
They are located close to LEGOLAND so there were a lot of families staying there. The King bed was extremely comfortable and I slept like a baby! My boyfriend was hesitant on booking this hotel but after we stayed there he said it was nice, especially for the cost. Parking directly in front of our hotel door was very convenient as well. I also have to add that the free breakfast was really good! I made myself an egg, sausage bagel which was delish! They had a good variety of food. The breakfast is from 6:30am — 9am. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay.
