Love the carnitas plate! Good portion, tasty and not expensive. Would definitely recommend!

They have my all time favorite burrito; the California burrito wet. The sauce they put on top is almost like a gravy. It’s bomb. Fast service, perfect for take-out.

It’s good. Convenient. I like Alejandro’s also, but Alejandro’s doesn’t take CC.

I give Cessy’s three stars for food, service with a smile, and a fun location. The food is good for a fast food place, but keep in mind that it IS a fast food place. There’s no bar and no table service. That said, the employees are friendly; the walls are decorated with photos of customers, young and old; and the location is amazing! On the corner of Carlsbad Blvd. and Carlsbad Village Drive, Cessy’s is right in the middle of the action, a great spot for people watching! A couple of tips: 1. The parking lot between Cessy’s and the neighboring liquor store is tiny, so if you see a spot open up while you’re driving there, you may want to grab it! 2. The doors are left open all year round, so if it’s cold outside, be sure you have your coat with you! If you’re like me, you’ll be able to enjoy your food more when you’re not shivering!

You know it’s a good burrito when you can hardly stay awake after. This is a classic San Diego greasy hole-in-the-wall Mexican food place. Highlight for me is their habanero hot sauce. HABANEROSAUCE(Orange) — Hot but not harsh. Has a great flavorful tangy savoriness, yet almost creamy. Pleasantly surprised. Took a couple containers home for homemade burritos. They were cheery and polite when we ordered. SHRIMPBURRITO — The tortilla was comfort food style, doughy and greasy and delish. Creamy beans and rice, cheese, and shrimp. Some shrimp can be flavorless, but these have a medium amount of that good shrimp flavor. CALIFORNIABURRITO — They don’t skimp on the guac. Carne asada was that slightly dry style. BREAKFASTBURRITO — a little bit plain. Probably better if you add chorizo or something to it. ICECREAM — a great way to finish a fun meal. Standard soft serve. Don’t be a dud, get it in the cone. In conclusion, Cessy is a great place to experience a classic San Diego greasy hole-in-the-wall burrito, but for me it would be too fast foody to eat on the regular.

I have always been a Cessy fan. I have been coming here for years. First on beach days when I was in college, and now randomly here and there cuz it’s around the corner from my apt. Cali Burrito never fails. Crinkle cut fries never fail. There salsa never fail. Outside and inside seating. They take credit cards. Just your hole in the wall local Mexican joint!

SOOOOOOOOGOOD. So good. Get the California burrito, add sour cream, drown it in ketchup and the green salsa, and you’ll see what I mean.

I hate to do this. Every time I go there. the burritos get smaller. They are now kind of tiny. But pricey! Yes. very pricey. I live 1 block away but opt to drive across town to Mexico Viejo. They have so much turista business., they dont even care. Locals dont matter to them. At all.

There are many, many Mexican places and just as many locals who are sure they’re connoisseurs, as they smother absolutely everything in cheap hot sauce, cilantro and jalapenos. Ya, you know da kine… Cessys has great burritos. Period. I like their fish tacos. I just eat fish and cabbage with a little salsa fresca and lime juice from the self-serve condiments bar. I save the tortilla, add honey and get a little dessert. The horchata is well spiced and sweet. I’m not thrilled with the chile rellenos. I do really like their carne asada anything at all. Not«carnie asada», dude. «Cahrneh», if you’re gonna eat it, learn it. After 1000 asada burritos, you’d think… If I hear one more«connosseur» say this, its gonna be a Sweeney Todd moment, baby!!! Most of all, Cessys is the kind of place you can run into with your swimsuit and shorts on and grab a bite on a modest budget. With dozens of great choices, they’ll kick it up any way you want, all made in front of you. No fuss, the staff is kind, give very generous portions with a free drink refill. nice on hot days. Theyre polite to the homeless and those not having their best day. They enforce good manners by having them. A true Mexican attitude. You can bring your pet to the outside tables. Restrooms out back to wash the sand off the kids. All in all, the quintessential taco place. Where can you still feel at home in Carlsbad with only a few bucks on ya?

I think I miss this place more than any eatery I’ve tried in SoCal. Used live around the corner from Cessy’s. Best carne asada burrito I’ve ever had. Great post surf meal right here.

Cessy’s is a great local«hole in the wall”-style taco shop. It is quick, delicious, and one of my favorites. I highly suggest their cali burrito or fish burrito! Their location couldn’t be better; right in the heart of the Carlsbad Village on Coast Highway, just south of Carlsbad Village Drive. Parking can be tricky sometimes, but there’s usually at least one or two spots available. Just FYI: you can’t access the parking lot if you’re coming south on Coast Highway, there’s just a driveway on the northbound side of the street. Trust me though, it is definitely worth the U turn a little ways down the street. Inside, it is clear why I called it a «hole in the wall»(which is not a bad thing at all, btw.) Small little seating area, kitchen right behind the order counter, nice and cozy. Photos of all the locals that frequent the spot are all over the walls, reiterating to those that come in that this is definitely a local favorite spot for either before or after a beach trip. Everything is made to order, great take out opportunity, or sit out at one of their stone tables and benches outside along the street. Great food!!!

I have eaten here quite a few times. The food is sub-par at best, but I am basing this review off what happened last night. I tried to take my father in law there for a taste of real Southern California Mexican food. I decided to go here instead of Alejandro’s because I didn’t want him to get food poisoning, and tried to bypass SeñorGrubby’s because I really am not a big fan(they always run out of the Pastor Pork). We got there at 7:48pm. They close at 8. They said they were closed and wouldn’t take our order. As we walked out, people were talking about being refused service as well. That’s a bad look for you guys. If it weren’t for your prime location, drunk kids, and unknowing tourists, this place would fail.

This is just the cutest little local taco shop! I had come here all through high school and haven’t really been back since. Used to go to the beach and come here for lunch or ice cream and tortillas(trust me, you gotta try it. It’s like the Mexican version of fries and vanilla ice cream… bomb.com). Lots of photos of locals and always very welcoming spot. Food is always great and I hope one day my kids will grow up going here!

Alright since there are 1 billion order at the counter Mexican food places in San Diego, you need to know what food to order, and what other options you have around you(given there are likely one or two other options within a football’s throw from where you are at). First off have no fear, you are well taken care of at Cessy’s…here’s what to order: –Breakfast burrito or breakfast burrito with bacon… one of the BEST ever hands down — Bean, rice, and cheese burrito… absolutely marvelous, assembled perfectly, black belt skill, and the simple ingredients meld, mix, match and spawn good things like the Ninja Turtles — Carne asada burrito, California burrito, or carne asada fries… all San Diego good quality and true representation of the Mexican style here — Three rolled tacos with guacamole combo… it tastes great, solid deal, and if you don’t what that tortilla sloggin away in the belly as you lay on the sand, just get the darn combo –UTILIZE the salsa bar… this is a cut above the rest no doubt… their house chunky red salsa is a grand slam, and the green salsa is a excellent sidekick Parking usually is not an issue in their lot. This establishment is perfect for to and from beach trips!

We thought we’d grab a bite before heading out to the beach. It was convenient and filling. Unfortunately, it was flavorless. I did enjoy the spicy kick of the hot sauce, though. I doubt we’ll return.

Oh Cessy, allow me to count the ways I love you! I’m telling you right now, if you are like me searching for THE california burrito then this place needs to be on your list! Absolutely LEGIT We walk in, and the lady working the counter was extremely nice and inviting. I came for one thing, and one thing only, the California burrito. However while scanning the menu I saw one more thing I just couldn’t pass up. My fellow Unilocal members had posted several photos of these already, and irregardless of available space in my stomach I was ordering them, Carne Asada fries! They have several picnic tables outside right on Carlsbad Blvd. We sat in the sun and only moments later our fare was ready for pickup. Basically for then next 10 mins was a complete blur, not sure if I can recount most of it. It was like a burrito and fry induced coma of bliss. Next time I’m in town, it’s straight from the airport to Cessy’s!

I’m not saying there is no God, but seeing as how Cessy’s has taken one of his perfect gifts, the avocado, and turned it into a light green, pureed slurry with no real flavor or pleasing texture, thereby spitting on his holy creation without any hint of divine retribution? Well, that’s all the proof I need that he doesn’t exist right there. I lived in Carlsbad for 20+ years, only came here sparingly, I preferred Alejandro’s down the street, but I never had any real complaints about it. Then, I moved to Encinitas, stayed away for a decade, and come back to find it has either fallen on sad times or it didn’t match up to my childhood enjoyment. Came here with my favorite girl in the whole wide world after a trip to the beach with our son and her two teen boys who were visiting. Cessy’s was close and accessible, they were in the mood, so we hopped in for a bite. I was taking a break from my Fish Burrito kick and just had the Rolled Tacos. They were simple, probably either frozen or premade, and glopped down with this off-color goop they called guacamole. Now, many of you may not care, but I love avocados. I make a lot of my own guacamole; it’s not hard. At it’s simplest, you just mash up a few avocados, add a little salt, and your done. Going a bit further, you might mix in a little salsa, some cilantro, and smile away while you snack on it with fresh chips. If you just scoop out a few hundred avocados to whip up in a blender or buy it frozen down at Smart and Final because you’re lazy, the flavor and texture lose everything that make them good and you’re left with this noxious, light green pudding. It’s gross. Anyway, the rolled tacos suffered because of it. Everything we had did, actually. The combination plates, the California Burrito, about the only thing that was untouched and still palatable was my son’s Cheese Quesadilla. Don’t get me wrong, the food isn’t horrendous; it’s pretty average, actually. It’s just the guac is so beyond wrong to me. It’s not what I grew up with, it’s not what I make myself, It’s not that good. On the plus side, their salsas are tasty, and I do like their beans and rice. None of them are really better than what I can make, but it’s nice to know that the basics(aside from the guac) are solid enough to enjoy. If I ever come back, a bean and cheese burrito will probably be a safe and tasty way to go.

This joint is borderline 5 stars! If they had waiter service they would be! Seriously great Mexican food! I had carne asada burrito and the meat was juicy, flavorful, and just awesome. They make this orange salsa which is about medium spicy that is wonderful on everything! Prices are great and service behind the counter is friendly. The one thing I noticed about this place is that MOSTLY locals eat here. You won’t see a lot of tourists sitting down… just a bunch of surfing locals looking for good/inexpensive grub. I will definitely return!

Absolutely loved this spot! I could see some of the food being meh and some really good. I got a carne Asada burrito with beans guac and cheese and meat. It was amazing but the orange sauce was just the most incredible hot sauce/salsa I’ve ever had. Cessy sauce for the win. It’s in the Top 3 best burritos I’ve ever had.

I had fish tacos. They where made to order. Came with cabbage white sauce. 2 deep fried prices of cod, pretty sure it was mrs Paul’s frozen fish with bland flavorless cabbage. Very small portions of rice and beans.
