Established in 2011.

Chip & Bytes was founded in early 2011. We love the Carlsbad Village, and it isn’t uncommon to see the Bytes Girls roller-​blading or walking some of the Village’s big annual events, like the street faire, handing out flyers and meeting new people. If you are a local resident with a sick computer or laptop, or a local business in need of help with your technology, we would love to help!

Chip and Bytes is a fantastic computer service.
My computer had a broken fan — producing a loud rumbling sound, which scares the hell out of me. I thought my computer would just suddenly explode because of it.
I called other repair shops but they told me it would take 3 days or a week to complete the repairs. Plus, they were charging me over a hundred just to fix.
So I went to Chip and Bytes and I was greeted by one of their professional staff, who took my PC and fixed it in less than an hour for they have all the parts in stock. Moreover, I only paid less than a hundred for the repairs.
Chip and Bytes is noticeable superior to their competition.

Tried to give them business today but even though Unilocal said it was open the store was closed. Nobody answered and a voicemail was not returned.soooo. I didn’t like it. Thankfully I found a different place that was able to fix my PC today. If the opening hours are different it would help if they updated their Unilocal profile.

Welp I hate to do this but I had some bad costumer service from here. I got my phone fixed once, and it held for about 6 months before it ended up breaking again. So I went back to give it another go. After all, everything went well the first time.
Around a week after getting it fixed for the second time, I take a short drive home for lunch. I reach in my pocket and pull out my phone, only to find the ear speaker has a spiderweb crack that looks like a sun sketch by a child.
I call back to see if they can help me out. It had only been around a week, and the thing never touched the ground. The guy tells me he can’t help me out, and that «the frame could’ve been bent, resulting in the phone cracking»
I’m pretty sure you can tell if a frame is bent when placing in the new glass. I’m also sure that you can help out a costumer who seems to be loyal and willing to help out your business, and not to mention has sent over 5 new costumers to get service done there. Not the case anymore… Phone Phix it is!!! Right down the street– way better deal, and they will even do extra little things to help improve your phone. I’m all about good costumer service– and Chip & Bytes DOES NOT have that, seem to be only worried about their bottom line.

I dropped my iPhone 5S this morning and totally shattered the screen. Looked on Unilocal and found Chip & Bytes nearby. But I decided to go to the Apple store first because I thought it would be better. After hearing the Apple store tell me the cost would be $ 269+tax and that they just give me a refurbished phone, I decided to call Chip & Bytes. (I should have called them first!!!)
I spoke with Mike on the phone and he said if I brought the iPhone over there that he could repair it in 15 minutes! So I headed on over and sat there in the small but nice store front while Mike changed out the screen and talked with us while he did it. The work was absolutely top notch and Mike is a friendly guy. The total cost was $ 99. The repair was fast, professional and high quality!
Highly recommend these guys and I will absolutely use them again. I see they also do computer repairs for Windows and Mac and network stuff. So they are bookmarked now!

I’ve been waiting to post this review. This happened last year but I didn’t think to review them on Unilocal.I am SOOOO disappointed by what transpired.
I had a Mac book pro that was flashing the grey screen with the file and question mark. I took it in after being computer less for awhile. A few people hinted it could be the HD cable and that it is loose or needs to be repaired. I thought cool these guys have good reviews I’ll take it to them. Well couple days later I’m told to pic up the MacBook and apparently there was nothing they could do and it would probably cost me more or along the lines of buying a new one. Great… So I do what many people with a broken Mac do I post it on craigslist hoping to get whatever I can. A 60 something year old retiree wants to buy it off me for $ 200 that was my best offer. He says he’s never had a Mac book and I guess spends his free time trying to take things apart and put them back together yadda yadda, I tell him good luck. Off I go to spend $ 1400 on a brand new MacBook Pro. The next day old man texts me and tells me he fixed it and it cost him $ 15. FML. I don’t know what they did to my MacBook at this shop or if they even looked at it but they cost me a new MacBook (extra money I did not need to spend!!) Would never recommend this guys!

Very happy with Chip and Bytes — Mike Harris is the usual rep who is very knowledgeable and positive.
I’ve had laptops repaired, Win OS replaced /​reloaded and several data recovery requirements which have all been completed fully and on time.
Prices for the services I have had are very competitive and in fact quite lower than
some others in the surrounding area.
I recommend Chip and Bytes highly!

Chip & Bytes has helped me with two computers. They rescued my previous one by installing a new hard drive, and their work was thorough and done in a timely manner. They also went the extra mile and «cleaned it up,» making it run at maximum capacity.
When this computer recently developed a bad motherboard, Chip & Bytes advised me (upon my request) on purchasing a new unit that would best serve my needs. They migrated all my files, folders, and fonts from the old to the new computer, affording me a seamless transition from XP to Windows 7. They answered all my many inquiries during the set-​up process, and even helped me set up a program I had forgotten how to work with. When I mistakenly downloaded a program that infected my brand new computer with viruses, Chip & Byes did the repair work at a generous discount.
I would recommend Chip & Bytes unreservedly.

I wanted to move all my email and file storage to the Cloud and found Chip & Bytes to help me out. I was honestly clueless how to even go about this and didn’t know where to start. Chip and the guys were really helpful and and very knowledgeable and assured me that I was in good hands — and I was!

Got the job done. This place had me worried for a while… Last week I had a sweet getaway for the weekend to Carlsbad where I dropped my phone while visiting the tide pools… I cracked my iphone screen and got sand in my phone, it was a total nightmare!!!
We took my phone to this shop right down the street and they fixed the glass and cleaned it out but told me they needed to order a part for the inside of the phone where there was some water damage, I wasn’t happy about having to leave my phone overnight but they were so fast on cleaning it and changing the screen I thought I’d give them a chance. I went back the next day when they told me my phone would be ready and nobody was there! I didn’t have a phone, I couldn’t call them and ended up waiting 15 minutes before somebody came and showed up and opened the store and the phone wasn’t even ready! They needed ANOTHER 15 minutes but I got my phone and it does work. The screen is brand new and they really did do a great job cleaning my iphone out but come on, lets be punctual folks!

I had a minor electronics malfunction with a paintball gun. I know that this has nothing to do with computer repairs and is hardly an electronic, but I needed a soldering job done.
You would think that any computer or electronic repair shop could do this. Most of them sent me away or wanted to charge a ridiculous amount. And although I can’t solder, I knew that what I was asking for was a novice task at best.
I happened to be driving by and saw Chip & Bytes. I stopped in to explain my dilemma. Right away I was greeted and treated like a valued customer. I was quoted a more than reasonable price and a great turn around timeline, especially considering my oddball request.
I would recommend this shop to all of my friends. Computer, electronic or otherwise, Chip & Bytes is a top-​tier repair shop.

I have never cracked a phone screen before, but a few weeks ago I dropped my gorgeous white iPhone 5 on the concrete: completely shattered. I was devastated, and thought I might just have to live with it. I didn’t have insurance on my phone and I had no idea how to go about getting it fixed. No one in my area could even fix an iPhone 5 screen, so I looked online for someone who could.
I got in touch with Chip at Chip & Bytes and everything turned around. I shipped my phone to their store, they replaced my cracked screen for me with no problems at all, and shipped it back safely and quickly. My phone looks as good as new. Better, even! And the turnaround time was unbelievably fast. The communication, pricing, and professionalism here were solid.
Thank goodness for these guys. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to have their computer or phone handled with expertise.

I commute between Los Angeles and San Diego regularly for business; last week as I was boarding the Amtrak I dropped my phone and smashed the screen. I had several meetings that day and had critical work that was in my email. My colleague looked up iphone repair shops along the Amtrak line and found Chip and Bytes only a few blocks away from the Carlsbad Village station.
I walked in, had my iphone’s screen fixed and was out the door in under 20 minutes. The price was great, the staff was nice enough and the location was convenient. I would definitely recommend them for iphone repairs.

A hard drive on my business computer crashed. Insert your favorite foul language here.
The usual means of recovering data from the drive didn’t work — it was completely dead and unresponsive. Plus, my backups weren’t doing their job and I was faced with possibly losing a month of work.
I contacted some hard drive recovery services, who quoted between $ 750 and $ 3500 to try to get data back.
Enter Unilocal.And Chip and Wally.
Chip charged $ 125 and within 24 hours recovered 95% of the data off the dead drive.
Wow. And their office is within half a mile of me.
Local, knowledgeable, affordable, competent — what more could you want in a business? Anytime I’m over my head with IT stuff, I’m going to them without hesitation.
