Established in 1947.

Since 1947 Hatter, Williams & Purdy has become the preferred San Diego insurance provider for more than 6,000 individuals and families, as well as 1,600 businesses throughout San Diego and Riverside Counties. With offices in Carlsbad and Temecula, HWP offers convenient, professional and courteous service for your Home, Auto, Health, Life, Business coverage and everything in between.

Business Owner

Scott Purdy started in the insurance industry in 1978, as a life insurance agent with National Life of Vermont. Scott joined Hatter, Williams & Purdy Insurance in 1983, and has spent the balance of his career in the agency/​brokerage business. In 1999, Scott assumed the principal position of HWP, and became President of the agency.

Scott strongly believes in providing the highest level of customer service to his clients with a commitment to effective hands-​on attention to detail. The philosophical approach that Scott takes is to form a partnership with his customers, to help provide the best coverage at the most economical price.

Jenny Bowman is a total rock star! I love the woman. After a very lengthy tenure with Hatter, Williams, Purdy, and when I got a new agent when Jenny went into sales, and for some delusional reason, I thought it might be a good idea to try AAA for insurance, what a mistake. I will not go into detail here how horrible the two months at AAA were and the mistakes that were made there, I would just like to say how incredibly nice and gracious Jenny was in picking me up, dusting me off, and helping me back into stellar customer service of Hatter, Williams, Purdy. Jenny Bowman is the best. She completely took care of everything so that I could cancel AAA immediately and relax knowing that my best interests were being looked after again, and everything was done so well and in such a timely manner. Jenny, thanks so much, you are the best and I am so grateful for you!!!

HWP (today with Lisa but all reps are great), helped me today with the on-​going issues I have with my mortgage company. The latter is always after insurance proof or some other insurance related issue which drives me crazy. Today’s topic was right after refinancing and they had prepaid some of the insurance looking forward. Lisa helped work that mystery out and said she is ready to assist when the mortgage transfers to another company (I was just notified that’s happening). I’m fully expecting to be contacted wherein I’ve got to show proof of insurance… So I’ll tap the agreeable Lisa or her designee for help when that comes.
Also, HWP always seeks out the lowest cost — yet competent — insurer. I’ve been with HWP since 1997 and won’t ever leave them.

I can’t say enough about how wonderful this team is. I work with Dove Sholk and she is responsive, knowledgeable and always helpful. She is willing to answer any and all of my questions and she is quick to follow up with any pending proposals and quotes. Insurance is something that intimidates me since I have very little knowledge of the subject, but Dove puts me at ease and takes some of the mystery out of the process, which I appreciate immensely.

My neighbor uses this insurance company and recommended them, so I tried them on the upcoming new auto policy. Unfortunately, I had two minor incidents (hit a pole; backed into my friend’s car) so that shows as two «accidents» and my AllState insurance went from $ 1200/​yr to $ 3800/​yr. Yikes.
I called HWP and talked to Dustin Purdy. He was very gracious and spent a couple of days shopping my policies around. Then he came back to me with the bad news that nobody wants to give me a lower rate. So since I have, my other policies with AllState, he told me I should probably stay with them unless I wanted to move everything to HWP.
Well, I very well may do that in future, but right now there is too much going on to deal with it.
What an honest guy!!! Just from this one transaction, I will definitely be doing business with them in the future. Honest people still exist, fabulous.
