Omni La Costa Resort & Spa

This is for the residents or anyone planning on becoming a resident along or near the resort and golf course: zero stars and make sure you have earplugs and good insulation. The resort occasionally blasts music at 7am on weekends and always has their maintenance with the loudest machines and mowers between 5am and 7am DAILY. Be prepared to never get a good long sleep if you need it.
Calls to express concerns or about city noise ordinances after you’ve become so desperate to actually try and ask for some peace and silence? Meh, good luck for any actual resolve. Welcome to no sleep land.
Update 6.21: It is 6:30AM and there is so much tractor noise and metallic clanging and booming –worse than a trash truck emptying dumpsters as compared to if you were standing next to one. I don’t understand the logic here. Windows closed and still incredibly loud.

I stayed here with my wife and two young children on a min vacation for two nights. Call the resort direct when you book as the Omni call center staff have no clue about this location. The resort grounds are beautiful and well kept.
Check in felt awkward and uninformitive; not sure if the lady was having a rough day. However we did get checked in a couple hours early which was nice.
The self parking lot is far away from all the hotel rooms so you have to plan luggage logistics or pay for a bellman. Self parking is an additional $ 18 a night (valets speeding around in your car are $ 25 a night).
We had a vista room, which was about the size of a Comfort Inn room with no amenities and minimal towels (we had to ask for more). It was clean, although a bit worn down, and although it was cleaned well the second day was not finished until 4pm (we arrived and they literally just finished) even though we left the room at 9am.
The pool area for kids has three main sections will slides, splash zone, sandy beach, and different depths for kids of all ages. The down side is the pool area is not well kept, meaning there are towels on every chair (and nowhere to drop them when you leave) so finding seating is a chore. There is trash (mostly plastic cups) floating around. You also have to wear wristbands if you are a guest and not a member, which may be the reason that we never tended to by the pool wait staff. I had to order a sandwich at the bar, where the bartender was swamped making drinks and the wait staff stood around, and after 10 minutes put in an order which took another 15 minutes to get. The other couple times I ordered drinks was also slow, but acceptible.
We ate at Bistro 65 as well, which is extremely overpriced and also lacked proper service, although the patio was awesome overlooking the golf course.
The spa was exceptional with superb service, facility, and amenities. It is pricey but highly recommended!
Overall the service here is worse than any resort I have ever stayed at. I recommend a day trip for the pool (you can just pay for the day) and the spa, and stay near the beach in Carlsbad Village (only 15 minutes away). For this I give an extra star.

I love La Costa! I just stayed in the plaza suite for 3 nights for my 30^th and it was amazing! The lady that checked me in was very sweet, I wish I got her name. I was able to check in around 10 AM I drop my stuff off at the room and spent the whole day at the spa. I enjoyed a nice strawberry hibiscus body scrub and ate a great lunch at the spa café the waitresses are very friendly. When I returned to the room that afternoon I had a birthday cupcake waiting for me. The following 2 days I enjoyed a botanical facial and aromatherapy massage at the spa. I ate lunch and ordered bottles of Champagne by the pool and just relaxed!
I ate at the bistro 2 nights for dinner and the food was good and the view of the golf course was nice. On my birthday they took care of our drinks! I also had room service one night took about 20 (not bad) and was pretty good.
Everyone I encountered was friendly and it made for a great experience. I’m planning my next trip back now!

Day 1 at La Costa Resort and I am deeply disappointed. For the price and the hype, hardly of Resort quality. We will not be coming back.
Examples:
–Unfriendly pool staff. Everyone seemed to very unconcerned with their customers and frankly, grumpy.
–Room service staff. Unfriendly and not accommodating. Adriana put me on hold (no kidding) after every question I asked and rudely told me about five times of the long wait.
–Room service choices. Blah. Need I say more. With so many restaurants on premises as they boast, none of them delivery on Prem?
–Room service food. I ordered food for my children and the fries were so salted, they were not edible. The pizza clearly frozen.
–Room service charges…24%??!
–Kids Corner drop off. So overbooked that we had to stay in. They also offered babysitting. Overbooked.
2^nd room service for the parents — Chicken was dry and with $ 170 meal, including a bottle of wine, no bread. Shrimp cocktail was delicious however.
–Room. Supposedly a suite… Hardly qualifies for it and on top of that, no extra towels, cushions missing from chairs, etc. Not even a bottle of water.
–Parking. We have children and we couldn’t find a parking Spvr anywhere near our room. In fact, there were no spaces at all so we parked my family on the edge of the lot.
–Extra pillows and blankets request — 1 hour
So far, I am so deeply concerned with the poor quality of just about everything here, that I don’t understand how they can call it a Resort. It’s not like any other resort I have ever stayed. Perhaps the bar is set too high. It’s more like an expensive Super 8. And yes, I have stayed at Super 8 too.
I will write more on Day 2.

The Omni sits on an absolutely beautiful piece of land and the rooms include view of a nice gold course.
The amenities are nice also, from good pools to slides for kids to lively cabanas. The food is very nice.
The staff is courteous and professional and the décor is well done.
Unfortunately, it is need of some repairs and upgrades. The water pressure was a continual problem (that others experienced as well). More significantly, the rooms feel old and a little worn out.
I would definitely stay again, but hopefully they reinvest in rooms and infrastructure.

The three stars are for the restaurants and grounds… they are beautiful. I really enjoy evening strolls. We stop in and have dinner and drinks here once in a while. We used to spend every New Year’s Eve here, back before the huge remodel. (I loved the lobby bar the way it was before… but I understand that times are changing!) the lack of stars are for the rooms. Last time we stayed the night, I was very disappointed with our room in general. The walls were paper thin! And I really mean that! I could hear a woman’s entire telephone conversation next door. We also heard all of the «extra curricular activities» in the middle of the night. It was extremely awkward! The room itself felt old and needed an overhaul. Our room was on a grassy hill that was pretty though!

We booked this hotel through
a few days before arrival. After a long day, we arrived at 10:00pm only to be told they had not assigned us a room first, then that there was water damage to the room assigned? And that basically they were not able to accommodate us. They did offer a pull out couch in a room with a kitchen? Um no thank you. Not what we booked. There were no efforts to contact us prior to arrival. Very unprofessional. Would not recommend booking here.

No doubt the grounds are beautiful & it’s a nice resort.
But, upon check in at 5pm, our room wasn’t ready nor was it even the room we were booked for. We were booked in a suite but got a standard room.
The buildings are numbered differently from what your room number is, so the room was difficult for us to find. I couldn’t imagine what an older couple would go through to find their room!
We unloaded our stuff while stopped in a handicapped parking (which is not cool) because it was the closest open spot to the room. The self parking was quite a distance from our room, which I wouldn’t expect from a resort like this. Either they expect everyone to park valet, or, they expect everyone to walk almost a ¼ mile to your room with your luggage.
The room was pretty, for sure, but I did find a hair on the glass in the shower and hairs on the blow dryer. I don’t know, $ 400+ for a room, I would expect it to be just about perfect! The lamp shade was also cracked but that’s not a huge deal.
Lastly, the ice machine by our room didn’t work so we had to go find the next closest one.
Overall a nice stay, but you’re paying PREMIUM rates, you would expect a premium experience.

I can’t say enough nice things about this place. The entrance was breathtaking. Every single staff member went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our stay was perfect. The grounds were immaculate. Our room was clean comfortable beautiful, worth every single penny. The food at the restaurant near the lobby was excellent. My only recommendation is to get to the fire pit early for Smore’s and bring your own $ 10 for a Smore’s kit is bit of a rip off but we still spent the money and the kids enjoyed it. I’ve been to the Omni in Palm Springs. After going to this one in Carlsbad I will never return to Palm Springs again.

Resort is gorgeous and extremely kid friendly. We booked through
and got a pretty good deal (rate included resort fee and $ 60/​day breakfast credit at Bistro 65). We were automatically upgraded to a villa room from signature room at check-​in and my son received a welcome backpack! Our room was spacious but a quite a trek to the kiddie pools. Wasn’t too big of a deal cause 1. We needed the extra steps and 2. Gave us an opportunity to tour the beautiful resort.
The breakfast buffet offered a decent selection aside from the usual continental breakfast with fresh fruit, omelet/​waffle bar, eggs benedict and oatmeal just to list a few of the options.
Drink prices are a bit over the top. My husband ordered us two drinks poolside which totaled $ 30. They were also on the weaker side as I didn’t feel a thing and I’m usually a lightweight…
Two things that needed attention were 1. There was a broken light fixture above our headboard. 2. The door didn’t have the usual door guard — my son opened the door twice and was about to run out if we hadn’t stop him. Just two safety hazards that caught our attention…
Nonetheless, we had a great stay and will definitely return for more fun! Our son loved it!!!

Bistro 65 — Glad I was able to order things not on the menu since I could only have ‘light’ foods due to illness. My waiter was excellent.
Luciano who works in catering — Thank you so much for going above and beyond and being understanding in getting me a drink that would soothe my stomach since I could not have the juices from the buffet.
The courtesy golf cart rides make it very easy to get around on the property. Just call the bell/​valet desk.

I love La Costa, cleanest and nicest spa in San Diego, staff is always ultra attentive. The property is beautiful and the spa café offers champagne, salads, cocktails and fresh cookies.
Here are a few tips:
–Self park, super close to the spa, walk along the ballroom and you will see the spa right across.
–Book appointments on week days (avoid weekends)
–If you need a facial, ask for Annie (best esthetician)
–bring your own small hand bag or convenient small purse, the robes no longer have pockets!

Manuel Alvarez turned a not so pleasant experience into one of the best ever!
About a month ago I brought my family and and another couple to La Costa for a weekend, let’s just say it didn’t go that well… The people above our unit must have been throwing a hit the lottery party all night making it a nightmare on us because our 3 children (ages 2,3 and 4) were not allowed to sleep one bit…
I decided to walk to the front desk in the morning and have a face to face with a manager, I was blown away by the professionalism I received from Manuel. You could tell he had a genuine concern and felt bad about what happened. He listened without interrupting me one time and once I was done explaining the entire situation he did everything to make me happy, I had expressed an interest in returning because we have stayed here a few times prior with great experiences and sure enough he said to contact him. I did exactly that and he more than exceeded my expectations! Not only did he respond to every email I sent him even on his day off but he arranged an amazing weekend for my entire family.
Upon arrival for this new trip he had a bottle of wine, salami with cheese and milk with cookies for our kids waiting in the suite. The staff was extremely helpful and our suite was even ready early. Manuel made all of this happen on 3 days notice over a busy Mother’s Day weekend. Talk about going above and beyond! Now it’s time to enjoy this amazing resort! Thanks again to Manuel for making this happen.
Update:
Our night was amazing, peace and quite all night long… Our girls slept well, we enjoyed the view and some wine then went to sleep ourselves. In the Am we enjoyed some room service, highly recommend the cappuccino while taking in the fresh air from your patio which happens to right on hole #1 now it’s the Mother’s Day so they’re off to enjoy a few hours of facials and massages.

Such a lovely resort with a beautiful gold course that has the most breathtaking landscape.
Lots of business conventions here and golfers. I like going to the spa and enjoying the pool
Lovely restaurant but was closed for renovation last I was here so went to the bistro

This review is based on my experience as an organizer of a meeting for my job. Pre negotiations for our meeting of 30 people were ok although they really wanted to find ways to add additional costs. Room rates were competitive and food minimum was reasonable. But other amenities like conference room wifi, AV, etc were way over priced. We were able to negotiate down so I’ll give them kudos for being somewhat flexible.
On check in I was supposed to receive one of the VIP rooms as the organizer but my room was no different than others. I also never received my welcome drink coupons. Others that arrived after me had to wait for hours for a room even though it was closer to regular check in time. That was a bummer for part of my group.
The conference room was very nice and so as the staff. They always said hello. Best part was the food — mix have to admit it was better than expected for catered hotel food.
The downside about this place is the large layout so some hotel rooms were really far away and the self park is a hike especially with luggage. No easy way to pull up and check in without illegally parking a car which made me feel rushed to check in.
Would I go back to for personal visit — not likely to as its really expensive. For a meeting, probably not as I felt like it was too much haggling to get to a reasonable overall cost.

What a difference a day makes… The great staff transferred me to a Plaza room after dreadful room 845 with the stinky smell and the rock hard bed.
Plaza room 162 is delightful. It’s totally central, right across from the Marketplace. The building is built around a huge green courtyard so I open my French doors and have a small patio with the garden outside and all the rooms ring the garden, sort of like the hidden garden communities in London. There’s a jacuzzi at one end. And this building is right near the valet so it’s easy in and out and the valet is free (but $ 25/​night parking fee). The hotel property is 400 acres so some of the rooms are really far away from the center.
As far as amenities, they have just about everything. 9 pools including a kid only pool and an adult only pool. There is a club for kids and a video game center. Beautiful golf course, they’re famous for it, and they hold a yearly well-​attended jazz festival. There are three or four restaurants, including dog-​friendly Bistro 65 on a patio overlooking the golf course. Fabulous bar with high end happy hour; great place to watch the Super Bowl in an adjoining space with couches and walls of floor to ceiling TVs.
There are fabulous clothing and jewelry stores as well as athletic stores and a men’s clothing store. The Spa at La Costa is known as the #1 wellness spa in America. Beautiful pool where you can lounge in your spa robe while you await your massage appointment. Spa also offers manipedis and hair salon.
One of the best amenities is the Marketplace open ²⁴⁄₇. When I have trouble sleeping I can mosey over in my sweats at 3 in the morning and peruse the great gift store and have a hot drink. You sometimes run into after-​party revelers looking for a cuppa joe. (Maybe you’re one of the revelers. Myself, I’m early to bed, early to rise… and need my café latte at 6 am.)
The Spanish-​style hotel was built in 1965 so the landscaping is lush and abundant everywhere, colorful bougainvillea and trumpet flower vines carpeting the walls. Great walking paths and there’s the Deepak Chopra yoga center that has meditation and regular events.
This place is great for everyone. It’s somewhat family oriented but great for single or business travelers too, and a diversified all age inclusive crowd.
A truly fabulous getaway, now that I have a great room with a luscious comfy bed. Try it, you’ll like it. But bring beaucoup bucks. 5 day stay: $ 1800. Had two girlfriends over for breakfast in the room: $ 119. But hey, it’s worth it for the relaxation and crisp clean air. I feel like a million bucks… which is almost what’s it’s costing me.

MEETING SPACES. Came here with my company for a meeting that we were putting on. The catering food was a little bland at first but then got better. Overall I enjoyed the space.
The Location. The location is nice, 45 mins outside of San Diego without traffic. The resort itself was a little spread out in my opinion. Some of our attendees had to walk quite a ways just to get to their rooms. The closer you were to the lobby and the main building, the more expensive the rooms seemed to be. My room was a signature room in the 700 building with a semi private patio and chairs. It was nice and clean. I do think the property is a little older, but nice. The walls in the bathrooms are paper thin. I felt like my neighbors were having Christmas dinner in their bathroom and I could carry on a conversation with them. Got that feedback from several attendees. There is turn down service twice a day. My only complaint with that would be that they the tv on the «Omni» channel when they left. I dont like wasting power and that was a big waste of power if you think of all the room with TVs left on. I was close to the main building, but there was quite a bit of walking if I had to go to my coworker’s room for any reason.
The Meeting Space. The meeting space was nice. Like the rest of the resort is was a little older. There was not adequate lighting in the rooms and we did not want to have to rent lights so it was a little dark. Our office we were given was a little smaller than we have had before but worked.
PSAV. Whats to say, they are lubriciously over priced for this location. $ 700 for a glowing ball in the sky, $ 650 to RENT a built in TV in the conference room? REALLY? We mostly bring all our own equipment, and this time was no exception. We even bought speakers and wireless microphones and shipped them there and back for a fraction of the cost that it would of been to rent the setup from PSAV. PSAV really is getting ridiculous on their pricing.
The staff. The staff was a true pleasure. Always approachable and helpful. Helped us with our meeting a ton! A+ for the staff. Some of the best staff that we have had the pleasure to work with. If I only had one complaint, it would be to give us one bartender the entire time we are there. What I mean by that is that, when we normally go to a meeting, when we have drink service, there is usually one bartender that works the bar every night. This allows for our staff to create a relationship with them. IDK is just nice to see the same faces every night instead of new staff every day.
Great property and can’t wait to come back for pleasure or business!!!

This past week I have attended a conference hosted by my company at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. I arrived in the most miserable mood; I was up for 32 hours straight, I ended up in San Francisco and was supposed to be in Los Angeles. United lost my luggage so I had nothing but the clothes on my back — did I mention I was here for work???
From the moment I stepped out of the Escalade I was treated like a Queen by every single person who works at this property. Genuine warmth & hospitality from everyone and all they wanted to do was make me happy and relaxed. My bad mood melted away when I saw my room. I was on the third floor of this beautiful hotel and my unobstructed view of the pools, golf coarse and rolling San Diego hills was an absolute picture post card.
My room was clean, bright and comfortable. The bathroom was stocked with rosemary & mint toiletries. The towels were generous, fluffy and plentiful. On the first night of my stay, my luggage induced drama prevented me from getting any sleep — but once that was resolved, I had no worries.
The grounds here are absolutely beautiful, green, lush, fragrant, stunning!!! Seriously, you don’t know where to look & did I mention how nice everyone was??? They have a super cute little gym and that’s crazy important to me. They have the world renouned Chopra Center for yoga & meditation and I’m so wrecked my schedule precluded me from taking a class… you know how I feel about my yoga! They have so many pools! Big pools, small pools, infinity pools, kiddie pools, heated pools! Pools & golf & spa oh my! There is NOTHING they don’t have here! Dining? YES! Drinking? YES! Activities? YES! Shopping? YES! I really wish I planned better and spent extra time here. I even got to catch the Knicks game at the bar one night.
All in all this place is great, what sealed the five star deal for me is how well I was treated. Like I said at the beginning of this review I was treated like a QUEEN. I was here with over 100 of my business partners and all I heard was how incredibly nice everyone was and how beautiful the property is. I am coming back here for a vacation — this place is awesome!

Beautiful resort, perfect get away with the whole family. This resort is literally the paradise for little kids. It’s filled with different activities for kids of all ages. At the kiddie’s pool they have a small water slide. The kid’s pool is very clean & well maintained. They clean the water often. It’s shallow & has perfect temperature for the kids. It’s got the little sandy beach area for the kids to play. It’s just perfect in every way.
The restaurants are great. Although I wasn’t so pleased with the food at poolside, the food at the restaurant was exceptional. We had both dinner & breakfast at Bistro 65. They had a great Salmon dish for adults & I was happy to see that healthy option on the kid’s menu as well. Bistro 65 is overlooking the gorgeous green golf courses. Breakfast was buffet style. Loved the omelet station.
At night, they had live music in the middle of the resort Families were having a great time dancing or hanging out. They were also playing the little mermaid movie on the big screen by the kid’s pool which I thought was awesome.
The rooms are recently remodeled, very clean & roomy. They gave us 2 pack & plays for kids to sleep on & we got a fridge in the room for babies milk.
This resort is about 2 hrs away from us. Will definitely going back.

I came here for a work event and was super impressed by how nice the grounds were. Man, I wish I could afford to be a member here, geeez, super nice haha. I didn’t stay in the hotel, but I did get a chance to attend the banquet dinner and try the foods. Overall, 4 stars as the food was very good and not over cooked. Usually at these types of banquets the food is almost always overcooked and served cold. Omni has set the curve on banquet dining!
Apps — honey butter with fresh dinner rolls
Salad — romaine lettuce, tomatoes, blackberries, carrots and marcona almonds. We thought they were either almonds or macadamias, but we were wrong! Haha
Entrée — Steak, au gratin potatoes, and veggie medley. The steak was super tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. I want to say it was a flat iron steak, but not sure. All I know is that it was tasty.
Dessert — chocolate cake. I almost took my pants off. So good.
Overall great experience and great venue for banquets. I might get married here.
