Paradise Gourmet Market

I had always heard about the amazing gluten free pizza at Paradise Pizza, so I stopped in and ordered one. They mentioned my pizza would take 20 or so minutes to cook, and they had a little wine and cheese shop in the same plaza. I enjoyed a great glass of wine and tasted a few cheeses. GREAT PLACE! The cheeses are heavenly! I brought home some of each I tasted! It’s a fun, not-​intimidating atmosphere, and the host is so knowledgeable and nice to talk to. I will be back with friends!!!

Shhhhh don’t tell anyone about this great little cheese and wine shop in Carlsbad. Great imported cheese + reasonably priced wine + friendly owner = a winner in my book.

What a pleasure. After a late lunch we stop in for some wine & cheese at the end of the day. Good wine & very nice cheese board. Very low key & relaxed. They own the pizza place next door also. You can bring your pizza in & relax with wine. Next time we’ll get a pizza. Michael, the owner was very friendly & makes you feel so welcome.

The owner, Shannon, knows her cheese. They have a small selection of gourmet cheeses, & it’s a cute, little «hole in the wall» market in Carlsbad Village. But it’s off the beaten path, so if you don’t know Carlsbad, you’ll never find it. I happened upon it while at another business next door. I didn’t order from their menu, so I can’t review their food… only the market aspect of it. Again, it’s small… suited my needs for the day… but I would want to go to a larger charcuterie if I really wanted to put on a nice spread for a party. This is good for a «picnic» sized order. Having worked at a full size gourmet charcuterie, I love good cheese & wine, & Shannon is a good source of information for advice! The inside décor needs a little bit of attention, & maybe more signage so people know it’s there! Cute… looking forward to wining & dining here soon.

charcuterie night has become a tradition at our house and my lovely (and opinionated) eleven-​year old daughter, JULIANA, is the self-​appointed salumi and cheese shopper. nearly every sunday we make the rounds, picking up tasty tid-​bits for our spread which includes an ever-​changing, ever-​evolving variety of offerings; cured meats, cheeses, olives, fig jam, honey, sliced apples, grapes, toasted crostini and nuts (cashews, smoked almonds, pistachios).
our sprees always include a stop at VIGUILUCCI’s GOURET MARKET for salumi — this week CULATELLO, TOSCANO and FINOCCHIONA, last week SPECK, JAMON SERRANO and SOPRESSATA. while we’re there, i also grab a BREAD & CIE baguette (to slice and toast for crostini) and either a BUFALA MOZZERELLA or BURRATA (for CAPRESE with those amazing tomatoes from CARLSBAD RANCH MARKET) but those are stories for another day. and even though conspicuously absent from the menu over the last two sundays, PROSCUITTO is another favorite.
cheeses are an entirely different adventure. DELICE de BOURGUIGNON (a triple cream brie — usually available at both COSTCO and TRADER JOE’s) is my personal favorite. but for my daughter, we make a pilgrimage to PARADISE GOURMET MARKET.
an AGED GOUDA (rich, slightly sweet, with nutty-​caramel flavors) is always at the top of her list. they have several at PARADISE (though they’ve been out of EWEPHORIA on our last couple visits). wheels of AGED GOUDA are easy to pick out of the cheese case because of their deep, orange color. a hard cheese, the AGED GOUDA provides a sharp textural contrast to the soft, creamy DELICE.
however, JULIANA’s far and away favorite is the SMOKEY BLUE CHEESE from ROGUE CREAMERY in CENTRAL POINT, OREGON. though not as mellow as a STILTON, it doesn’t have the sharp «metallic» bite of most blues (JULIANA’s less than enthusiastic about VIGUILUCCI’s CAPRA BLUE which i adore because of the «tinny» taste). this cheese has a very smokey flavor and rich, creamy texture — good enough for us to make a special trip.
PARADISE also offers cheese and wine tastings (not appropriate for my eleven-​year old) and the gracious folks (been somebody different every time we’ve visited) behind the counter are happy to help with pairings. it has been interesting to watch the shop evolve from its humble beginnings. hopefully, with community support, they will continue to grow.

This place is amazing! Wine and cheese lovers welcome to your heaven on earth. Perfectly paired wines and cheeses, special orders… really everything you will need for your upscale picnic for absolutely reasonable prices.

My friend was in Carlsbad for his birthday and I was not able to celebrate it with them so I wanted to sent them a gourmet basket to their resort. I found Paradise Gourmet Market online and called after hours the night before hoping I might be able to leave a message but I was lucky that Mychal answered. He assured me he would put together something really nice and get it to them the next day before their arrival.
He was so awesome and knew so much about wine and cheese I was very confident that the final product would be just what I was looking for.
He ended up putting together the most amazing basket and even sent me pictures of it before delivering it over the the resort my friend was staying at.
I work as a concierge for a luxury resort so I deal with vendors like this on a daily basis but I have to say that Mychal at PGM stood out as one of the better experiences I have had ordering gifts. Their great customer service, unique and high quality selection of gifts and great prices make me wish they had a PGM in Arizona because I would probably be there every day and use them for gifts all the time.
I would definitely recommend this place and can’t wait until I can make the trip out to Carlsbad to say thank you in person!

Come for the wine and cheese and pizza and stay a lifetime. Great atmosphere and great people. Mychael is the ultimate host. A local hangout just like Cheers.

If you are looking for a cross between a wine and cheese tasting room and Cheers, Paradise Gourmet Market (the expanded portion of Paradise Pizza) is the place to be. This was my first time here. Fortunately, I was with a group of friends who frequent this delightful establishment and they did all the work ordering wines and cheeses. Needless to say, the wine selections were on point. Unfortunately, I was caught up in the moment and failed to take suitable notes, but both wines were a red blend and one had a «Ca» on the bottle. In addition to the on point wine selections, our table also indulged in three cheeses. One which needed no note taking was the Guinness Cheddar. Holy Hell this was a beautiful cheese. A marbled deep caramel and white cheddar combination fit for a lactose intolerant king (or queen). If I am not mistaken, there was a gouda, lightly smoked, that paired extremely well with the dried turkish apricots on the plate. On the softer side, a mild brie spread like soft butter onto the crackers that accompanied our dairy offerings. Service was casual and extremely friendly as was the atmosphere in this cozy venue. I’m looking forward to a slew of Sunday fun day visits here.

We first met Mychal several months ago at the Oceanside Sunset Market where he was peddling his cheeses before the gourmet market even opened. We’ve been waiting and watching for his market ever since, and last night, as I drove through the parking lot of Paradise Pizza (sister gourmet pizza shop) I was thrilled to see Paradise Gourmet Market, with the lights on and customers inside! Mychal couldn’t have been a more gracious host, and I walked out with several different cheeses. I can’t wait to patronize his shop more and look forward to more appearances at the Sunset Market. I so hope he is successful as his shops are a bit hidden away from the beaten path.
One suggestion, please label the cheeses after packaging them for your customers – even if it’s just a matter of writing the names of each on the plastic wrap with a Sharpie. I had some of them today and realized that I had no way of knowing for sure which ones I got (I tasted several), which ones were which, and which were my favorites. I gotta know what to ask for next time. :-)
Haven’t had to pleasure of trying Paradise Pizza, but it is high on our list after reviewing the menu and reading the reviews.

Mychal (pronounced Michael) has put together the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.
A great selection of wines and cheeses at very reasonable prices. Nice variety of charcuterie and accompaniments. Relax I the comfy sofa with a glass of bubbles.
Mychal’s focus is customer service. Specifically getting YOU the things YOU want. If you have a favorite wine, he will special order for you and get you the best pricing available.
I was visiting from OC and stumbled across his store (with some Unilocal) and I secured provisions for an amazing cheese plate with 4 bottles of wine (at better pricing than the winery) and I also bought some pizza from his related business which was Fantastic.
Like his Facebook page and other social media to get the up to date 411. He does reverse wine tastings, meaning he has the distributors drop off bottles and he lets his customers taste them and then he takes orders for the wines. This way he gets his customers the best pricing with volume sales. Like I said… Wake up North San Diego because it’s time to get serious about your wine and cheese.

I have been really excited about the new businesses popping up in the Village and Paradise Gourmet Market is no exception. This place is a cheese shop for the serious cheese lover. One where each cheese has a different taste and a different story. Make sure you try the bleu cheese double cream brie. I don’t recall the name of it but it will knock your socks off. Yay! I will be recommending this place to all my foodie friends:)

Kinda excited as to what the owner of this shop is doing! If you know Paradise Pizza, you know that they do not compromise on quality ingredients. He’s doing the same thing here at the cheese shop. I walked in at the owner warmly greeted me and invited me to try some selection of cheeses in his display. We talked cheese for a while and he shared his ideas on bringing wine into the picture (makes sense!). He showed me a few bottles that he’d gotten in and I could see that he is off to a great start. I ended up getting an English soft cheddar and a blue infused double cream Brie that I wanted to stuff into my face right there but better judgement told me not to. As I was leaving, I couldn’t help browse all the other little fun little snacks he has that would make for an epic picnic or hors d’oervours. We will be back for a cheese plate, a couple glasses of wine and to look into their wine club (don’t tell anyone, it’s our little secret!)

Owner Mychal is very knowledgeable, friendly.
A GREAT place to hang out, sample cheeses with a glass of wine.
Their other products are great also, I especially love the aged Balsamic vinegar.
Definitely worth a trip out of your way to experience.

You have to look for this place as it is not on the normal drive/​bike/​walk routes where you would stumble across it. Your efforts to get here will be well worth it. It’s a got a great village vibe and the quality of the cheese selection is the best I’ve seen in the area. In addition to the wonderful and unusual cheeses, they have fine meats and many other items needed to make a fantastic gourmet spread for a gathering (they will make up platters). I came to the shop to have some snacks after I heard about it. I then went next door and got a couple of pizzas from Paradise Pizza to take home. It’s the same owner for both shops. I’ll definitely be back with some friends.

This is a great new place to hang out, with an excellent selection of cheeses, house-​sliced prosciutto, and breads and crackers to go with. Comfy couches, koa chairs and tables with tropical pictures make a great atmosphere. Looking forward to when they combine the cheeses with Paradise Pizza across the way — they offer Paradise Pizza now but it should be a lot better with a choice of fancy cheeses on one of their delicious pizzas.
