Scripps Coastal Medical Center Carlsbad

We have seen Dr. Silverberg many times over the past few months for out 15 month son for various issues. She has been incredible since the first visit. She is accessible at the last minute which has been really important. It’s also apparent she puts time and thought into the various medical issues he has had. I can’t say enough about how great she is as a physician.

Unfortunately, I had not read the reviews before I decided to go with Scripps and Dr. Proskina –BIG MISTAKE. Scripps and their doctors are into gouging your insurance and this is why our insurance rates go up.
I went to visit Dr. Proshkina at Scripps and was clear with the lady on the phone that this was a «WELLNESS’ visit which is covered at 100% under my insurance. Well there technique is to ask you open ended questions to get something out of you that they can bill you for. It’s worse than going to a mechanic. They are very dishonest. I mentioned that I wanted my wellness visit because there is a blood test included and I had been tired (no doubt I work long hours) and I wanted to make sure my iron wasn’t low. Of course they latched on to this and said that I complained of fatigue instead and billed me for a new office visit and did an allergy blood test which I was not even aware of.
If there was a 0 star I would have selected it. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.

Updated my review… still haven’t heard from anyone yet at Scripps, and they sent me two bills and made me lose out on my once yearly free wellness exam.

Wouldn’t schedule a consultation/​meet and greet/​interview with one of their pediatricians.

Clean & convenient location for our family. We just moved here and selected Dr. Jennett for our kids’ pediatrician based on info posted on Scripps Dr info page.
Needless to say it was NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE!
She was late, barely made any eye contact as she rushed in & out! NO BEDSIDE MANNER WHAT SO EVER!!! We will be requesting a different doctor next time & if we don’t get one we will be switching clinics entirely!

I’ve been going here for years and have never been that impressed. Dr. Robinson’s staff ranges from outstanding to downright horrible to deal with. I’ve asked for refills for maintenance medications and the paperwork never gets sent to pharmacy, or a different one is sent. Sometimes when I leave a message for the doctor I can hardly communicate with the person on the phone and have had a totally different message given to the doctor.
My last experience was the worst. I went in for a Depo-​Provera shot which I have been receiving for about 10 years, 5 years at this location. I’ve always gotten the shot in my arm because I prefer not to have to pull my pants down. This time the nurse REFUSED to give me the shot in my arm, insisting that she inject into my buttocks because she «isn’t comfortable giving the shot that way». Guess my preference for my own health care isn’t important because she wouldn’t budge.
She argued with me for about 15 minutes then disappeared for about 15 minutes, came back and said no again. Finally the doctor was contacted and said ok, after my total wait time was about 40 minutes.
It just shouldn’t be this difficult to get basic care.

I have been with Scripps Coastal since it opened. I have been going to Dr. Proshkina even while she was still part of Sharp. I love this facility. It is always clean and uplifting, not a dark, dingy office in the place! There are plenty of handicap parking spaces and the waiting rooms are lovely. Everything is bright and open. The staff that checks you in is great. Always friendly. I always seem to get Cassandra or Belinda. Both know me by name and are always welcoming and efficient.
Dr. Proshkina is amazing. I feel so lucky to have her as my doctor. I have a number of medical issues, and she is very thorough and concerned. I always get easy referrals and her communication is great. She never rushes through an appointment. She always returns my calls. Her nurse, Robert, is kind and concerned, as well as very professional. I cannot say enough good things about this team! I literally owe my life to Dr. Proshkina.

I went in for my first appointment, doctor check my temperature and blood presser and advise go to take Ultrasound for my neck. Next week she call me to visit office again and she says that Ultrasound can’t show anything better go to Cat-​Skin but I forgot my paper on doctor’s table.
So, I came back and pick my paper to Cat-​Skin. So, there nothing to did and I was billed $ 600
For what? In addition my car was vandalize in their Parking lot and cost to repair $ 4860!
When I asked recorded camera view Security says we don’t have cameras.
I will never again visit Scripps and do not recommend to anyone.

I have been going to this clinic for over 5 years and they are WONDERFUL! Dr. Robin Robertson and her nurse Christy have always been accommodating, call in Rx quickly, reply through the portal and screen for everything. The doctor has always been up on the latest literature regarding pap smears and mammograms. She is always willing to provide a referral even though I’m a PPO and don’t need one. I completely rely upon this clinic. They have helped me through allergies, Heart Failure, Breast Reduction Surgery, and now my pregnancy. The team is always good. My advice is to sync up with a great doctor and nurse combination like mine.
At times the phone messages can get messed up and the «central» referral system can be delayed and complex, but I just bypass all of that and email my doctor directly. She always get backs back to me or her nurse the same day. I’ve even called the nurse line once a while back.
This office is right around the corner and it’s perfect.
BTW — The lab on the main floor is a great addition as well. My lab results are pushed out to my other doctors quickly so my full med record is visible to all.
Med records has been very accommodating as well.
Only wish they had urgent care. The other urgent cares in the area aren’t very good, long waits and misdiagnose unless you go to TriCity. Don’t go to the one in Carlsbad.

I recently switched to Scripps Coastal from Scripps Clinic and I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of care at the Carlsbad location. I didn’t wait more than 5 minutes before being called into the room, and the medical assistant who took my vitals was pleasant and helpful. An LVN even came in after seeing the physician and I had an EKG on the spot, great service! Dr. Huynh, his medical assistant, and LVN did a wonderful job! At the end of the visit I signed up for the online patient service and now I can email my physician directly. Major kudos to Scripps Coastal in Carlsbad! I would recommend this facility and their staff/​physicians to ANYONE looking for quality healthcare–

First time here. Happy with my choice in finding a new pp. Actual nurse I saw was a little cold but eventually warmed up after asking her a lot of questions. Love my new doctor! Listened to me and provided excellent feedback. Very warm and friendly. The office calls her their little hummingbird as she seems to zip everywhere around the office. Quick and efficient! 4 stars as the nurse could have been a lot warmer and outgoing.

Love this medical center! Everyone is always so polite and professional. I’ve never had a bad experience here with staff.
I usually come really early to my appointments so I’ve never had any issues with waiting. I also understand that its not a fast food restaurant where you’re supposed to be in and out quick even if that’s what most would prefer. Besides more mistakes are made if you rush through things. I don’t mind waiting because I don’t know if the patient before me is in some serious pain or whatever.
What really helps is their patient portal. I use the site to make my appointments, check lab work, check my healand even communicate with my doctor.

I had to do some routine lab work for the pregnancy and figured I’d try this Scripps lab vs the one closer to my Dr. in La Jolla. I’m SO GLAD I decided to stray from my normal routine because this was so much more convenient and a much more pleasant visit.
Right away, the staff was very friendly and professional. Greeting each person as they arrived and got us checked in quickly. I had to drink a bottle of liquids and wait for an hour before they drew my blood so they gave me the proper instructions and an exact time my blood would need to be drawn. While waiting, I realized everyone flocks here first thing in the morning. I was lucky to be one of the first persons here but there was a constant flow of people the first hour. Seems to be their busiest time. Thankfully, the hour went by pretty quickly and my visit was pain free.
A few days later, I had to return and do a more extensive 3 hour test which was a little more involved and painful. Painful because of the long wait times and the fact that I had to fast but they were very accommodating and all the girls working were very sweet and understanding. I had to fast from midnight on so it was a pretty tough morning for this pregnant lady. I could not leave the parking lot but they allowed me to rest in my car in between blood draws, which was a huge help. Plus, it kept me away from all the people who were in the waiting room coughing and sniffling.
It was a painful 3 hours but the staff here made it a lot more comfortable for me and made sure that I was feeling ok throughout. Getting 4 blood draws within a 3 hour period is not fun but they did their best to make sure I was comfortable throughout. I really appreciated that.
My husband and I will be using this lab for all my tests moving forward.

I have been on hold for over an hour and half to make an appointment. Guess I’ll just have to try again tomorrow. I gave up.

I’ve been dealing with an account issue regarding chiropractic care benefits, for which I’m eligible. Scripps, however, has refused to refer to me a physician within their network, despite Cigna explaining its their responsibility per the terms of my HMO Plan through my employer.
As a result, I’m paying my medical premiums for care Scripps refuses to give me. I was contacted by someone at Scripps in Patient Relations and upon following up, literally never heard from them again.
As a result, we’re looking at changing our medical group within my healthcare plan, and switching mine, my wife’s, and our two children’s Primary Care Physicians.
Ah modern medicine… its a sad state of affairs.

Is it possible to give negative stars?
This man is a HORRIBLE HUMAN BEING who should certainly not be a doctor and definitely not treating children and dealing with parents. He so obviously hates them.
I went in for my first appointment three days after having my baby and saw Dr Herz only because Dr Wells was unavailable. BIG MISTAKE! He came in sat down angrily and asked if before we start what questions we had. So I asked about the oral dosage for Vitamin K. Well 1^st of all he didn’t know (pathetic for a pediatrician to not know that) and 2^nd he went on a tirade about how I’m killing my baby because I didn’t get the shot when he was born and how he could be dying of brain hemorrhaging right now. Then, naturally I, an emotional, new, first-​time mom, started crying and explaining my decision. He cuts me off and I ask him to please stop while I’m crying. You think he would have taken the hint to stop once I started crying! Keep in mind, pediatricians are supposed to screen for Postpartum Depression NOT give it to you! Anyway so he gets up and walks out of the room continuing to belittle, insult and harass me and says «Well, I think you’re a horrible mother.» This man is atrocious. And he’s a prime example of all the old, angry male doctors who can’t think outside the box. They’re so set in their ways. He could fathom another type of dosage for Vitamin K, or heaven forbid not getting it. You HAVE to get the shot when the baby’s born! Screw that. Good thing he didn’t know I didn’t get the Hep B vaccine or Erythromycin eye ointment irregardless of the fact I don’t have STDs — I’m sure in his mind you have to get them anyway, they’re just part of the process! How did people survive back in the day when we didn’t have all these interventions for such a natural process (childbirth).
Just FYI when the staff clearly saw me upset they brought in another old, angry man who clearly agreed and backed up his awful colleague and pressured me into getting the Vitamin K shot equally trying to make me feel like a negligent, idiot parent. Trying to find a good, honest, open-​minded, pediatrician is so tough. Good luck!
I cannot forewarn parents enough about this guy. DO NOT SEE DR. HERZ! He should have his license revoked. Period.
The most frustrating part was when I tried to take this up the chain with Scripps, no one claimed responsibility for him, claimed he wasn’t in their network or something and ignored my complaint.
UPDATE: I did directly reply to Scripps from their comment below, to no avail, they never called back or did anything. The evil pediatrician still lurks the halls of Scripps offending and verbally assaulting new mothers and newborns. He must be stopped!

I really liked this place. It was clean, like… super clean, and the staff here is phenomenal. I visited Dr. Siksay, and unlike most doctors I’ve come across, she actually seemed to care about my well-​being. And she wasn’t awkward or rude about any of her concerns or anything. Everything here is well-​organized, and efficient.
One of the things that I liked most is that the staff members are thorough. Everyone from the receptionist (not sure of official title) to the doctors is great. For example, my nurse took my blood pressure with the machine and noticed that it was a little low. She then took it manually … TWICE … to make sure there was no room for concern.
If this is in-​network for you, or if you simply need a place to go, I’d definitely recommend this spot.

There’s never a need for urgent care or (knock on wood) the ER when Scripps Coastal Medical Center can get you in to see your primary the same day you call in! Just recently, having terrible ear pain, called in to see if my doctor (Dr. M. Siksay) could see me; was first told «It doesn’t look like we have any openings for today, but I’ll tell your doctor about your symptoms and we’ll call you right back». Two minutes later, I was asked to come in at 2:15p. This phone call having taken place at 1:15pm. Cool!
And that kind of scenario has happened multiple times prior to that! So accommodating! Especially if it involved a sick KIDDO!
Amazing, hilltop office!
Parking lot all to itself, getting I into a spot is never an issue.
Checking in process is always quick and painless, LOVE the ladies behind both the adult check-​in counter and the children’s check in counter! Friendly as heck and they know they’re stuff! And with all the health care changes in effect/​disarray, I give the staff SO MUCH credit for their patience and understanding!
Waiting rooms are clean and equipped with ample hand sanitizer! Even the children’s waiting room isn’t the bacteria breeding ground you might imagine. They play AWESOME movies in there!
Nurses are sweethearts! Never once had a negative experience with a nurse! Honestly, they’re as poised and informative as the doctor that soon follows after they’ve left your room.
Rooms are standard: small but clean. Fun shapes and the like to keep children’s attention on the walls of their rooms. (Jealous adult!)
Doctors are GREAT! They build such good rapport with you! What’s the word? Good bedside manner? Yeah! Just lovely! However they can make you feel better physically (and emotionally), they will!
Very familiar with this office as I have been coming here since I was a child. Now, bringing my own offspring here and having a different set of standards for what an office and what a doctor should be, this location and its staff never let me down!

I chose Scripps Coastal because it was halfway between my home and my work. Since then my work has moved to Orange County, but I never got a chance to properly review them. I find it perfect that having been there a half dozen times over that year was more than most years combined I even maxed out my referrals to specialists. Suffice to say 2011 was a jacked up year for me healthwise.
I was glad to come here. To get checked out and fixed up. My doctor was amazing in treating me and scaring me just enough to get my butt into gear. I lost the unhealthy weight, got my blood pressure under control, lowered my cholesterol and took care of most of my issues through specialists.
It’s a great location with labs downstairs. The front desk is great, friendly and the waiting areas are never full. PCP Brian Kim I would highly recommend.
After a recent bike accident I attempted to be seen via walk in and was denied which I thought to be preposterous. I had all day to wait and since it wasn’t life threatening I didn’t need emergency room care I just wanted to be check out and since I hadn’t been seen in a while I was pushed off to Urgent Care in Oceanside. Although it’s closer, I was shocked of being denied, no apology, no attempt at accommodation, nothing. I even asked to been seen my any doctor, not my PCP and was denied. If I’m hurt, but not bad enough for me to want to spend the extra money and hours in an ER and am willing to wait for any general doc to see me, not just my PCP I think I have the right to wait and not be turned away.
I loved this place, but had to take a star away. I will highly recommend it with that caveat, but perhaps that’s just the system. Parking is designed odd, either that or there are tons of terrible park jobs. The layout is a bit expansive. The building is bright, brand new and clean with a great view and location.

Now that I’ve moved down to Carlsbad, had to find a new doctor. Was referred to this place and wow, is it ever fabulous. I am still getting used to the fact that everywhere in Carlsbad is less crowded (much less crowded!) than in LA.
This Scripps Center is high on a hill overlooking the various valleys in the area. The building is brand new, clean, spacious, and everyone working there seems like they’re happy to be there.
I only waited about 10 minutes past my appointment time and my doctor was very cheerful, helplful, relaxed. It was a very good experience and very close to my house. Go Scripps! Your reputation is warranted.
