I really wanted to leave a good review for misty, so I will!!! ;)
I moved here last year and loved my hair girl but unfortunately it’s just too far to drive to do my hair.
I looked for awhile to find someone close and was soooo stoked I came across misty on Unilocal!
Misty is so super sweet, I had her come to my home and totally felt at ease the whole time she did my hair!
She’s really funny and best of all she did an amazing job on my hair.
Can definitely tell she’s done hair for years and knew what she was doing.
Can’t wait to have her do my makeup too!

Curly hair girls rejoice! Finally someone who knows how to cut curly hair! Misty is trained in the «deva» method and uses a hybrid of techniques based on your curls (and input) to give you the best cut possible. For 90 minutes, Misty sculpted my curls — all for an extremely reasonable price. My hair looks so much more healthy and my curls actually bounce again.
Misty is easy going and great to talk to. You can tell she really prides herself on her work. Over my years of moving I’ve never really been loyal to just one stylist. Excited to say I am now! Bonus points for easy location in the Forum.

Misty is AWESOME! She did my DevaCut (dry curly cut) and I absolutely love it! I have been searching for years and recently went through a really bad experience that left my hair dry, thin, and damaged, so I was in the process of growing it all out again! I’d been so afraid to do the «big chop» since I’ve always had long hair, but Misty made me feel completely comfortable and confident! She didn’t pressure me at all, she just wants her clients to be happy! She did a wonderful job and she is super sweet and fun to talk to, which is always a huge plus! :) She also did my all over color, it has lasted so long and still looks beautiful, rich, and healthy! I love the products she introduced me too, they are the best curly products I have used to date. Five stars all around! If you’re looking for someone in North County that is amazing with curly hair, she is your girl!

I’ve been going to Misty for a year now. I was sad that, due to her moving, today was my last color/​cut with her. She always does an amazing job. She even took time today to write the color formulation for me to take to my next stylist. She is always fun and I have never walked away disappointed. I wish her luck in the future and hope to have her work in my hair again if we’re ever in the same town in the future!

Misty Marie did an excellent job with my hair and I even got bonus tips for my small business. If I were still living in Monterey (we moved to Portland in 2012), I would have her cut my hair again!

Misty did my hair and make-​up for my wedding this past weekend. Misty was very friendly. It was like having a friend hang out with you and do your hair, except she’s totally awesome at it! I don’t usually wear much make-​up and Misty was great working with me and giving me a look that was still me but much more glamorous. The hairdo she did for me was amazing too! I had a tiara and she definitely gave me tiara hair! Hair and make-​up lasted all night without any issues. I hated to take it all off at the end of the night. Thanks Misty!

Misty is the best!
I always love my hair and I know that if I didn’t she would be more than happy to change it for me, BUT that is never necessary!
Also, Misty is delightful which makes it that much nicer to get a great haircut from her.
The price is beyond reasonable, I think it is $ 55. She has the easiest online appointment system and is always very quick to respond.
All around a great experience and totally worth it!

Misty is amazing! If you are getting married in Monterey you have to use her! She is a creative genius. Plus she is funny, kind and a good person. We actually liked each other so much and found so much in common that we decided we were long lost twins. If I lived closer I would have her do my hair on a regular basis. I did a trial run with hair and make up for my wedding. I am glad I did just so Misty would know what my hair and skin are like. I will say that I gave her a general idea of what i was looking for and let the «artist» come out in her. Boy was I right. she blew me away. She used air brush foundation and I loved it because it lasted for 12 hours. I wanted to look like myself… I just looked like a beautiful polished version of myself on my wedding day. Misty put me at ease and gave me the look I wanted. She is easy to work with and takes credit cards!!!

Misty did the hair/​makeup for my wife and I for our wedding earlier this year. We both have curly hair, and luckily she has experience with this! I have verrry super curly, kinky, frizzy curls, and my wife has looser, heavier curls. She managed to make both of our hair look great, and they stayed that way for the whole day!
Neither of us usually wear much makeup, so we were worried that it would feel heavy and cakey all day– but her makeup was exactly the opposite! She airbrushed the makeup on, and put our fake eyelashes on individually, lash by lash, so we still felt very comfortable!
Her rates for wedding hair/​makeup were surprisingly affordable, compared to other quotes we were given from other salons. She also did not charge extra for our wedding being on a Sunday (which a lot of other stylists wanted to do!), even though she had to open the salon just for us!
Misty is so sweet, and she made us feel so beautiful for our wedding! I highly recommend her!

If you are getting married in the Monterey/​Central Coast area I highly recommend Misty. She is super down to earth, friendly but most importantly she a pro. Very rarely do you have someone who does BOTH hair and make up. Misty nailed my look down after looking at some photos I had during our trial appointment… The air brush foundation she uses lasts forever and requires no touch ups during the day. When I got home from the wedding my make up looked the same… no fake eyelashes were out of place and my makeup and hair were still good to go (this is after dancing up a storm).
She is one of the few people who can work quickly and still do quality work. Her prices are reasonable and she will go the extra mile to ensure you are happy with your look.

Misty did a fantastic job on my hair. I had it washed and blown out. I requested volume with large curls at the ends and she delivered. Her appointment system is easy to book appointments ²⁴⁄₇. I plan to return soon!

How did she do it? Magic? A sign from god? Misty cut off 12 inches of my hair and I get compliments on my hair all the time! I Love it! LOVE IT!

She’s the only hair-​stylist I’ve been to that didn’t automatically flat-​iron my hair to death. She’s great with curly hair. I love being able to schedule appointments online, get confirmations and receipts via text, and pay through her phone/​iPad.

I had an appointment with Ms. Misty Marie Cates, scheduled for Thursday, 22 December, at 11 a.m., at the Venus Salon in Monterey. It was supposed to be my first appointment with this hairdresser.
I arrived at 10:59 a.m. and was told that she is not there. There were no messages for me. Another hairdresser suggested that I wait for her, and he texted her that her 11 a.m. client is waiting. He asked me for my name.
I waited for her for 15 minutes, but she never showed up, nor did she contact me in any way until 2:32 p.m.
I wasted 1 ½ hours and gas, driving all the way from Marina and back.

I had the best experience I’ve had with my hair in a long, long time.
Misty’s «hands on» approach puts you at ease, and makes you feel confident
in what she’s doing. The color is great, and the cut even better. Even my

I had my first Deva Cut with Misty. All I have to say is Wow! Misty an amazing job of bringing my curls back to life and was very helpful in giving me many tips for caring and treating my hair. My hair dresser before has been with me for 15 years but I have been straightening out my hair for 15 years. I finally decided I want to start wearing curly hair again and I could not be happier with the results. Not much difference in length which is what I wanted, however I definitely have beautiful defined curls now. And I have many great tip for keeping frizz away.

Misty did my hair and make-​up for my April 2011 wedding and all I can say is — perfection. Not only did I change my mind on what I wanted the morning of, but Misty made me look even more beautiful than I imagined. Every guest commented on how wonderful my hair and make-​up looked and demanded I tell them who was the artist behind the magic.
Misty also coordinated the styling of my bridesmaids and mom and they all looked amazing. We were so fortunate to have Misty as our fearless styling leader and I can’t wait to head back down to Monterey to be beautified by her again!

I have super curly hair so it was important to me that someone could appreciate that and make my curls, CURL! Misty is the woman. I discovered Misty by accident, everything happens for a reason. I have thick, curly untenable hair and she has found products to tame the mane. I’m grateful for her knowledge.

I love my haircuts from Misty. She’s a really friendly, interesting person without being annoyingly bubbly and insincere like most stylists in the valley.
The shop is intimate and tucked away in the back of the salon for privacy and comfort. Great place to go!
