Surfside did a great job! I called them on the phone the day before New Years and took the time to answer the questions that I had in a manner that I understood. Then he fit me into his schedule. After he did his needed tests he put on the table the options that are available and what he professionally recommended based on the low coolant levels that I have and the system that I had. I will be using his services in the future and recommending to others.

I had 4 consults on my failing air conditioning System in my commercial space. No one seemed to be able to find a solution/​answer until my electrician referred me to paul the owner. He literally spent HOURS figuring out a cuts effective solution for my office. Then, he came out 3 additional times and worked through the entire weekend to keep his promise of having it installed. He is so honest, kind and professional. A true pleasure to see someone who takes such pride in his work. Thank you paul!

What an amazing job Paul and Clayton did!
We had a furnace which was on it’s last leg and Paul met with us to go over our options and assess our attic. He offered 3 quotes with 3 varying models & features. We went with his highest model which was still less than the 2 other bids we received! Before we pulled the trigger we asked to meet with him one more time to answer questions. We agreed on a date and he and his main assistant Clayton came on the agreed upon date at the exact time they said.
They ran into some challenges with the new model being a bit smaller than the old model and went to get parts to make the job right. They could have just done the bare minimum but it is very evident that they took pride in the job and wanted to do it to perfection.
We were getting one room that was hotter than the others and he originally thought it was a lack of insulation (but that he wouldn’t know for sure until he got to the other end of the attic). But he determined that insulation wasn’t our problem, but that our homebuilder put in vents that were too small… therefore not allowing enough cross breeze. He could have easily charged for the insulation but knew that wasn’t the right solution. He had a referral for us come out right away… a roofer to give his opinion.
Lori (his wife & office manager) was sure to update our invoice to reflect the thermostat we bought through him. No funny charges… just what we ordered. **Note: we originally bought the Honeywell Wifi through Home Depot but returned it because it has a 1 year warranty and Paul’s was the Pro version which had a 5 year warranty. And if there are any problems, he will come out and look.
The job was completed over a week ago, and we’ve had zero issues. The furnace is SO quite and doesn’t rattle our house like a freight train, and the thermostat is wonderful.
Paul is incredibly honest and takes pride in his business. I was happy to support a local business!

It’s September 2014 & it’s HOT HOT HOT in Fallbrook! Thanks to Paul at Surfside my in-​laws are able to keep cool and do not suffer through 100+ degree days without enough air conditioning.
A few years ago, my in-​laws had a small footprint, low profile air conditioner installed for the living room /​front of house. They have a modest small house, but since then the hot summers have affected them more and more. This year, we decided to address the rest of the house and get enough AC to cool the back bedrooms, too.
Paul installed a dual zone high efficiency system for my in-​laws, which helps to keep them comfortable and healthy through the last dog days of this summer. The system is working wonderfully! Just one outdoor unit provides cooling to two air movers in separate rooms. Now these west-​facing bedrooms rooms can be cooled to a tolerable and comfortable temperature before my in-​laws and their care-​givers retire to their rooms.
What a difference cool air makes during heat waves like we are experiencing now. Great job Paul! Thank You!

Called Paul for an estimate. He told me over the phone if I was looking for a competitive bid that I wouldn’t want him to come out. I didn’t know what that meant, so he clarified saying if I was a landlord looking for a low price it’s not him. I told him I knew A/​C units were pretty much the same on quality, and that the quality of install is what your primarily paying for. I was looking for a good job. Paul came out, looked at everything, spent and hour checking out what the work entailed to install two A/​C units into a pre-​plumbed house. He wore hospital booties implying quality. Stated some obvious things, some code requirements. Before he left he ask me the amounts of other bids I had gotten. Not something he needed to know. I gave him a range. He told me he would send me a estimate that evening. He never did. My conclusion is: 1) Paul (and his partner in a two person business) would likely do a good job, 2) If he determines he won’t make a ton of profit off your job, he doesn’t want your business. Conclusion: if you don’t care about paying a fair price, your probably pretty safe with Surfside. Honest guy up front about wanting a lot of profit out of me. Liar about sending me an estimate that evening — never got it… I went with Air Plus Heating & Cooling…

My wife and I replaced our 30+ year old furnace and added air conditioning to our home. Surfside well exceeded our expectations and certainly represents the gold standard for all home contractors.
After our initial consultation, Paul delivered a detailed estimate and carefully explained the various options we had in terms of equipment. Throughout the installation, his team worked efficiently and neatly – always leaving work areas as they found them. The job was completed to our specifications and the system runs perfectly.
As a contractor, Paul has the technical knowledge required for his trade as well as the ability to communicate effectively with homeowners. His «bedside manner» is excellent.
I would highly recommend to anyone who needs HVAC work.

My family and I were very pleased with our experience with Surfside. Paul was very professional, friendly, honest and hard working. He offered us several solutions, never pushing anything we didn’t need and all work and pricing was very fair and honest. Having recently transitioned to solar power, we have been in the market to upgrade our HVAC to a current system. I am the type of person who will do «due diligence» in order to feel that I am making a well informed decision, based upon my own research and not by what I am being told. After spending countless hours on the internet, asking anyone that I could for an HVAC referral and getting several quotes from local companies, I was astonished as to the range of quotes and characters that I came across in this industry. I just want to take the time to acknowledge Surf Side Heating and Air Conditioning as a superior, well managed professional small business. Owned and operated by Paul McGowan, Paul is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of HVAC. He offers superior craftsmanship at a fair price. He kept us informed through the entire process and was eager to get our input. He and his crew were timely and kept the work site clean. He is painstakingly thorough and will ensure that all of your questions are answered to your satisfaction. The system was tested and operation/​maintenance explained to us in detail. I typically do not write this type of electronic review often, but felt compelled to do so, because it was not easy to find someone with whom I felt comfortable in working with. There is something to be said with doing business with a small company. Make your own decisions, but I would definitely include Surf Side in your mix of quotes.

Good communications with prompt reply to inquiry. Paul kept me up to date on timings and was responsive to my scheduling needs.
Extremely competent, noting things that did not need to be fixed, and pointing out things that did, with complete and useful explanations. Work included fabricating a filter holder to replace faulty original equipment.
Pricing was extremely fair; Paul’s receipt included a very complete description of findings, actions, and recommendations.
