Carlton Cellars

We used the oregon wine pass (recommended) — we got 2 complimentary flights. Such a good deal! Out of the 4 places that we went to, the wine here was the best. The gal did a great job of explaining to us the wines. I really enjoyed my time here, I will come back.

Had a great time wine tasting at Carlton. Jules spent a long time with us and did a wonderful job explaining the wines to us. We are new at wine tasting and really appreciated the details.

We came in right around 4 pm and the Wine Hostess warned us that they stopped wine-​tasting at 4:30 pm since they close at 5 pm. I was a little apprehensive since I thought we had plenty of time, but she gave us a «warning». A small tour group was there, so maybe she felt a bit overwhelmed with me and my friend joining the «party». Soon though, we got into our tastings. We enjoyed the wines. All of them tasted good and she shared a little information about each one of them. We ended up buying a mini-​wine fridge magnet that was made of bottle glass, but was very sturdy. The winery is directly in town. If I spent another day in Carlton, I would be back again for a visit.

Loved our visit to Carlton Cellars. Judi at Abbey Road Farm suggested we visit. We were welcomed warmly, and following a thoroughly enjoyable and informative tasting, were given a tour. We learned so much and appreciate the time spent answering our questions and the great suggestions for other places in the region to check out.

I stopped by here for the first time today. I could see becoming a member here at some point in the future. I need to cancel another one first! I really liked the tasting room and both the folks there were friendly. I believe it was John who I knew there from when he was at Cliff Creak. If I got that wrong, I’m sorry! :) I liked the Devil’s Pinot and the Sauvignon Blanc wines. the others I liked as well. I’ll be back when I’m back in Carlton. You should too! :)

Our lovely guide for the day, Sherry Parker of Embrace Oregon assured us that our first winery stop of the day was going to be a delightful, little boutique and we would not be disappointed.
The tasting room is intimate and comfortable. The gal running the room was most welcoming and a pleasure to visit with as we enjoyed our wines. We were also introduced to Dave, co-​owner and winemaker; he too was great to visit with as they were both knowledgeable and passionate about their wines. For good reason too: the wines are great! I mostly tasted the whites and enjoyed them all.
Sherry was correct, we were not disappointed. The tasting experience at this winery was stellar and I will certainly return next time I’m in the area.
2014 — Review # 10

This was our first stop on a winery tour. Sherry at Embrace Oregon told us we would enjoy our visit here, and she couldn’t have been more correct.
The day we went was quite foggy so we weren’t able to see the vineyard and grounds, just the tasting room. It was small but cozy. We were the only customers here at the time, so we had their full attention. Dave, the wine maker took us to the cellar. It is meticulous! We did some barrel tasting before we went back to the tasting room itself. I wish I could remember the name of the curator, but she couldn’t have been more knowledgeable and charming. It was more of a wine class than just a simple tasting. We were given the background on each wine, evaluating for color, nose, tasting notes, ABV, etc… There were at least a half dozen wines to taste. All of them were good, but I fell in love with their Pinot Blanc, so I bought some to take home. We spent a fair amount of time hear soaking up information along with generous tastes. I would highly recommend visiting Carlton Cellars if you want to learn what you’re drinking rather than just swilling. This cellar is well worth your time!

I’m lovin’ me some Carlton Cellars. Hard. My first visit was last summer when I zipped down to Carlton to bring some Oregon wines to a girls’ trip on Orcas Island. This, before realizing that like most girls’ trips, we probably would have just as much appreciated Boone’s Farm with the veracity we took with the wine supply. But I digress.
This is not a snooty tasting room, which is one of the things that make it awesome. It’s a kind of ‘wine with friends’ experience, as it should be. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, ample parking, and really good service. Oh, did I mention the wines? Because I don’t drink a lot of red, this is also a great place to pick up pinot gris or a pinot blush. There aren’t a ton of wineries around town that cater to use white-​drinking winos, but this one delivers. And they have great events. So, yeah. I will keep coming back.

Lovely Lag Lunch at Carlton Cellars Vineyard!
We attended the second summer lunch event of the year for Carlton Cellars up at their vineyard. It is called the ‘Lag’ lunch because that is the stage the grape vines are currently in on their growing journey. This is just one of the interesting wine industry facts we learned on the vineyard tour that Dave, the owner and winemaker at Carlton Cellars, led before we sat down for lunch.
The setting for this lunch couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a beautiful day out in Yamhill county. The vineyard doesn’t actually have anything on it but acres of grapevines and a great grassy spot for events. The beauty and simplicity of the location was the perfect backdrop for a really wonderful Saturday afternoon.
We loved our glasses of the summer wines including a Rose, white field blend. Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Then with lunch we enjoyed two vastly different, but both yummy, Pinot Noirs.
Now to the food! Chef Paul Parenteau prepared amazing food, basically out in the middle of no where with limited resources for cooking. We started off with an appetizer of smoked albacore on bread with olive tapenade; then moved to a butter lettuce salad with a herb vinaigrette and prosciutto; followed by the main course of salmon on top of fresh herb pasta with a Pinot Noir balsamic reduction; and completed our culinary bliss with a flour-​less dark chocolate cake with fresh raspberries. Believe me, the food was just as delicious as it sounds!
The staff was also superb! Friendly and helpful with no wine country pretense.
While I did rate this to be a ‘pricey’ event, I must say it was well-​worth the slight expense. The wonderful wines flowed freely and it was absolutely top-​notch food! It is the kind of meal you walk away from feeling great about the experience you had and knowing your money was well spent!

Really enjoyed Carlton Cellars. We stopped in based on a recommendation from a local we met at another tasting room. We liked their wine so much, we shipped a case home. The tasting room is in the town of Carlton, behind the main road. Not the most beautiful atmosphere, but certainly quaint. The people were amazing — we met the winemaker and his wife, who were so genuine and nice. They seemed passionate about what they do. We sat outside in the garden, which is a nice litted fenced area with many tables and umbrellas to sit under. Very relaxed and well paced tasting, we never felt rushed. If you stop in Carlton, I would recommend tasting here!

Great wine, great concept and great people! After tasting here once, I volunteered to help with grape sorting last fall. Learned a lot and met more wonderful people and all the volunteers were rewarded with a delicious dinner and great wines! They know how to treat people right!
