we took our dying dog to that place. First when we walked in and the dog was dying I had to wait in line to be seen. There was a man in front of me who kept asking some random questions and the personnel saw that my husband was sitting with a dog who could not hold her head and needed to be seen right away.
When they greeded us for some reason they asked for the dog to be placed on scale. Was it really necessary? When we were escorted into the room, by just looking at our dog they told us right away «she had fluid in her abdomen». They took our dog into emergency room.
A few minutes later they told us «it’s going to be $ 250 for the blood test and an xray» we were griev striken and of course agreed to pay that amount. Several minutes later a doctor came in (not going into details here) but she told us that our dog had raptured spleen and was bleeding internally and that she had huge mass (cancer). Since our dog was 16 years old, the doctor advised us to put her to sleep. We agreed. We proceeded to an emergency room (escorted by the doctor). We said our goodbyes as she took her last breath. Again crying and grief striken we were escorted back into the room.
Dr.Morrison asked us if we wanted to take our dog’s body with us? We never burried a dog and did not know what to do with our fur baby’s body. They told ONE option — to have her cremate in animal cemetery and we were told: «You would get a picture from beautiful garden where you fur baby’s ashes are buried». It gave me some peace of mind knowing that my baby will have final resting place in beautiful garden surrounded by flowers and serenity.
As an employee was checking us out our final bill was $ 695 that’s from $ 250 they initially told us. I don’t want to think ill of this place but if they make their money from people who are grief striken that’s VERY WRONG! We did not say anything because we could not even think straight. It took me a week to collect myself and every day I think about my dog’s final minutes and what I could’ve done differently.
Companion Animal Hospital told us that we’d get a «card» in mail where our dog’s ashes will be buried but guess what? It’s been a month and we have no card. To me it seems strange. I did a little research on Internet and came across some facts that 90% of euthanized pets are being used for meet processing for cat and dog’s food. I don’t want to think about that it could’ve happened to our dog’s body because we paid for cremation service $ 100. If we paid for it, how come there’s NO RECORD of our dog? This whole thing seems very shady to me.
I did drop by recently to ask them «where’s our card»? They could not give me definite answer and an employee when she saw our file in computer went and called a manager… that’s shady also. The manager kept saying what a great place «Pet Rest» is where they were supposed to cremate our dog, but that place has NO RECORD of our dog!!!

I echo many of the sentiments of the other negative reviews. If you want a beautiful lavish building with granite floors cedar shake siding than this place is for you however if you want competent veterinary care then this is not the place for you. It’s quite obvious how they pay for this beautiful lavish building they overbill you and make you do services that are completely unnecessary. Long story short we took our cat there on an emergency visit and we thought he had eaten a foreign body we told the vet this and they of course wanted to keep doing x-​rays and labs which is understandable to start. These tests revealed nothing except for the vet to say your cat may have liver cancer which we of course knew was untrue they wanted to keep him to do repeat x-​rays every few hours throughout the night and so they can bill us for an overnight visit. After $ 1600 of unnecessary x-​rays that showed nothing they finally suggested an abdominal ultrasound which they referred us to a specialty clinic and it was going to be an additional $ 1000. We sought a second opinion at another local vet clinic we told the vet our concerns and within a half hour our cat was out of surgery and a foreign body had been removed. It was so nice to have somebody finally listen to us and you can’t help but think my cat would not have been subjected to another night of misery and vomiting if the vet at companion had listened to us instead of milking us for x-​rays overnight stays and labs. But hey somebody’s got to pay for that nice building!

Dr. Charney saved my dogs life and I highly recommend going to Companion if you have an emergency. I will say I took my dog to Companion the day before Dr, Charney performed emergency surgery to save my baby and the vet on duty that day did misdiagnose and sent my dog home to die. So if you do have an emergency try to see Dr. Charney or Dr. Vanderpool.

Companion Animal has such kind, attentive staff and doctors! They can accommodate boarding for animals with special concerns, but book early! They get full for holiday breaks quickly.

I have been to several different vets all over the Indianapolis/​Carmel area and this one is BY FAR the best. For starters, it’s a state of the art facility. They have almost everything your pet could ever need. Two, the care is excellent. They understand how important pets are to people and it’s extremely evident in their care. Three, their staff is so friendly and helpful. A lot of vets I have been to have had good doctors but their staff was horrific and made the experience more stressful than in needed to be. But here, I always feel welcomed and respected by staff. And finally, this place actually wants what’s best for your animal. Too many places try to rip you off by convincing you to pay for unnecessary treatments and services for your pet. But at Companion, I know that they actually have my pets best interest in mind.
If you live in the area seriously consider about taking your pet here. It’s worth it.

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand, they gave our dog very good medical care, but on the other, they are incredibly high priced and have charged us for products or services that we did not approve of, or even cleared with us before hand. You have to check your bill CAREFULLY! And question everything. They will try to slide something in without you knowing about it. They charged us $ 32 for something we didn’t need and didn’t approve. Nor did they even tell us they were doing it. I noticed it was on the bill when I got home. They wouldn’t refund the money for it either.
We took our dog there in mid march of 2013 for a serious medical problem. They gave her very good medical care, but charged us an insane amount of money for what they did. We didn’t have the over $ 2000 they wanted so we had to borrow it. They wouldn’t let us take our dog home when she was better after three days because we didn’t have the money yet. They kept charging us for hospitalization on the fourth day until we got the money and could pick her up and pay for it. When I complained about it, the vet changed her story and said our dog was still sick and needed the extra day. This was a bold faced lie to simply charge us more money. They refused to refund any of the money from the fourth day while they held our dog for ransom. They also gave her a completely unnecessary xray in the middle of the night without checking with us. I caught this on the bill and they at least refunded the money for that, but it never should have been there in the first place.
Take your pets there if you want. They give good medical care. But be prepared to overpay for the experience. And make sure you check the bill very carefully.
Also, make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page and look at the reviews that are not currently recommended. I don’t know how Unilocal decides to do this, but they’ve managed to hide five reviews, three of which are one star. Unilocal claims companies cannot pay to have bad reviews hidden, but it sure looks like that’s exactly what happened. They have several five star reviews featured, but have three one star reviews hidden. Make sure you read ALL the reviews…

I will be moving overseas soon (that’s the plan anyway), so I took my cat to this vet to get all her vaccines up to date, and they were fantastic. The facility is the nicest I’ve been to, the staff was super friendly, it was easy to get appointments. My cat didn’t freak out at all. They even offered me something to drink multiple times — a touch I loved that I’ve never experienced at a vet’s office. It is a bit pricey, but I think most good vets are. Highly recommended.

This is a state of the art animal hospital. The facility is amazing — it’s like the Mayo Clinic for animals. My puppy gets excited whenever we have an appointment even though she’s usually getting shots. They take great care of animals. The prices do seem a little high, but the level of care overshadows the cost for me. The vets and staff are all animal lovers and I feel great taking my little one here.

I’ve been taking my dog, Tasha – a Jack Russel/​Chihuahua/​unknown mixed breed, to Companion Animal since she was a pup (so 7 years now). Her vet is Dr. Johnson, a patient and kind woman who does her best to calm my excitable and somewhat fearful doglet. She’s always been ready to do the needful and takes very good of her, even performing Tasha’s yearly dental cleaning (which requires anesthesia via intubation – I don’t trust my pup to anyone else for this sensitive and kind of scary thing). Additionally, the couple of times that I’ve had to get in to Companion on an emergency basis (due to an illness and a couple injuries), I saw other doctors who were just as capable, warm, and effusive in their adoration of my pup (that always helps!).
The facility on Rangeline Rd. in Carmel is beautiful, the waiting area open and clean, and the examination rooms warm and comfortable. They have state-​of-​art technology – including a pool to help rehab dogs with hip and leg issues! The staff is top-​notch and I’ve never met one person in the seven years who hasn’t been absolutely a pleasure to deal with (they really go above and beyond – for example, today I picked up Tasha’s 12-​month supply of HeartGuard and the receptionist said she’d take care of filling out and mailing the rebate forms for me – how awesome is that?! But they’re always doing things like that).
The Carmel location is actually quite for me, but the one time I tried another vet, I was stunned by the ridiculous prices. So I went straight back to Companion. They’re open 24 hours for emergencies and seem to be able to get Tasha in as quickly as necessary, if needed.
I really, really love this place. If you’re a dog owner or know any, you know that we don’t really like to chances with our furry children. I recommend Companion with absolutely no reservations.
