I went into Kirkland’s today thinking that it would probably be a bunch of overpriced home décor junk. A lot of the merchandise was stuff that I wouldn’t particularly fancy in my home, but some of it wasn’t too bad. If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you probably have picked up on the fact that I am a cheapskate. So, I thought I might just walk into Kirkland’s, notice that the prices were ridiculous and walk out. Not so. I actually found several fall-décor items that were very reasonably priced. It’s only November 2, so I figured I could carry on the harvest theme until Thanksgiving, right? Kirkland’s had that stuff on clearance with an extra 75% off. It was nothing classy and certainly not of a quality that I would want to keep in my house year-round, but the same kind of seasonal decorations you would find lots of prices. I spent less than 10 dollars and brought home two scarecrow people for my front porch, a seasonal door hanger, ceramic pumpkin basket and a giant bag of spiced cider potpourri. Not bad for a store like Kirkland’s, especially when you’re at Clay Terrace. Kirkland’s also had a few items that weren’t seasonal that I thought were nice, but I didn’t need to buy today — some very reasonably priced scented candles, and little espresso mugs on stands. I will return to Kirkland’s, especially if I am looking for a few seasonal décor items. My only complaint: the salesgirl, who was friendly at first, was in such a sour mood when she checked me out. Not sure what was up with that but I hope she was just having a bad day!

I know a lot of people like this store, but I was underwhelmed. The salesperson did give me a nice friendly welcome and offered her assistance, so that wasn’t the issue… I just wasn’t all that keen on their stock. That is, I wasn’t impressed with what I was actually able to look at. The aroma of potpourri or candles or some other type of home«ambiance» product nearly knocked me over as I stepped over the threshold of this place. And, I love fragrance, so you know it had to be powerful! My eyes were literally watering up. What I did manage to take in looked like a lot of fairly generic home décor goods with large, brightly-colored price tags on them — as if neon somehow drives home what a bargain one is getting. The prices did seem reasonable, but then that might have been the tears just distorting the numbers. I am probably being too harsh, but Kirkland’s surprised me. I always imagined this to be a high-end décor destination — not! Ever had a co-worker or family member bring you one of those catalogues for a company that sells«décor» items such as wall sconce«sets» and the like… that’s what Kirkland’s reminds me of. Not my cup of tea, but they obviously have customers if they are able to maintain the rent in this mall. If you have strong reactions to lots of fragrance, best avoid this one or send in recon to do your shopping for you!
