Ted’s, you really blew it tonight, and you really ticked me off in the process. You just went from 4 stars down to 1. If I could give you –5 stars, I would do it. When I checked-in, I was awarded a Unilocal Dukedom of your restaurant. Tomorrow, I’m contacting Unilocal in San Francisco, to see if there is a way to revoke my Dukedom of Ted’s, since I no longer want anything to do with you. We entered the restaurant at 7pm. All tables were taken, so we were advised that there was no wait at the bar. As it turns out, there was indeed a wait at the bar. We waited 10 minutes for the bartender to take our order. We placed our entire order, and received our drinks in 10 more minutes. The appetizers never came, my soup never came, and our water never came. We got up, left a $ 20 on the bar, and walked out. Only then did we see the manager hover near where we were sitting at the bar. Where was all that attention for the first 40 minutes??? Plenty of other people were seated at the bar and were eating, and we didn’t even have appetizers??? If the Manager is reading this, here’s what I suggest you do: Line-up every employee who was working the evening of Friday, January 29th and have them stand at attention, Army style. Then, I want you to walk down the line and open-hand slap each one of them. Follow that up by docking their pay by 50% for the two hours covering 6:30 to 8:30pm. Seriously though, you really pissed me off. This was one of our favorite places to go, and you just ruined it. Yes, it was busy, but they have a term for that. It’s called«Friday night». The poor girl behind the bar had no chance whatsoever of keeping up with an entire restaurant of drink orders, and the food prep area was chaos personified. It’s been a long time since we’ve ever got up and left a restaurant due to utter incompetence. Congrats. Consider the $ 20 that I left on the bar to be severance pay, because you’re fired.

I let the server talk me into the bison my strip as I never had it before. She mentioned it was going to be more tender than the beef. I found it to be the toughest steak I ever had in my life. For $ 28 a steak, you are much much better off going to a prime steakhouse. If I want steak at clay terrace, I will make sure I go to prime 57 instead next time.

I came here with coworkers for lunch and was pleasantly surprised, as a vegetarian, to find a housemade veggie burger at a steak/burger place like this! Unfortunately, it was not one of my favorites. It was good, and seemed to be made partially of mushrooms, but it was lacking a lot of flavor for me and tasted greasy. I ate half of it there and took the rest with me(it’s pretty big), and later on that day, that second half actually tasted a lot better– like it needed to sit to properly get the flavors blended. The broccoli was good, but would’ve been better with just the tops and some more parmesan. Overall though, quick service, a good experience, and I would recommend for people who like standard American food — just not my kind of place. Loved the paper map covering the table though, that was fun.

Can I just say, pickles!!! OMG! So much better than getting bread before a meal! Their bison burgers are always delicious. Been here a few times and the food is always spot on. Service can be a bit wishywashy, but upon prompting or reminding the staff they always accommodate you. It doesn’t get as busy as some places do on weekend evenings, which is a definite plus!

Seriously? This place is terrible! Don’t try the salmon. They have no clue. Bison is just ok. Look at all the other reviews no wonder the place is always empty

We had an early lunch here today. It was pretty quiet, but an excellent atmosphere and great service. Our server(Alex?) was polite and gave great recommendations. I got the veggie burger with kale salad. The veggie burger was delicious with garlic aioli, lettuce and tomatoes. I didn’t try the bun but it looked like a good quality wheat bun. I try these everywhere I go and this is definitely one of the best I’ve had recently. Kale salad was good. My dining partner had the«George’s Cadillac» burger with fries, which he said was very good and it was HUGE! All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Our experience was disappointing: there are only 6 beers on tap, one of which is local. Also, the staff check IDs inconsistently. I am 32 years old and my companions are all older than me. We were all carded, but the patrons next to us at the bar were not, and the bartender had told us that she is required to. The patrons next to us looked about the same age.

Nice pickles — that was the highlight. Crummy beer selection(do they know there’s a craft beer craze going on?) Seriously, when Samuel Adams is the best beer on your tap these days, you know you need a management overhaul! The five of us were each unimpressed by our dishes(trout was dry, chicken was bland, etc.) Service was so-so. We sat near the kitchen and got to hear lots of yelling and a few profanities thrown in during our dinner. Yeah, nice family meal. Last time I frequent that place — which was near empty on a Saturday night!

Restaurant was mostly empty. Still waited 45 minutes for our food. My $ 30 beef ribeye ordered medium rare came out medium to completely well on one half, like it caught on fire. I will not be going back. I expected them to be able to cook a Steak to temperature. Too expensive and poor quality. I’ll try Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn Steakhouse next time!

Ugh this place has gone downhill. Just finished«eating» here and it was really bad. The meatloaf was way past its prime. The salad was brown and the salmon was severely undercooked. The only thing I enjoyed was the beer. I think this place needs to tighten up management and demand better from the kitchen.

I was unimpressed and won’t be back, but it wasn’t TERRIBLE. The place is echoey and not very nice for a date… there was nothing special about the plating. Didn’t really enjoy it.

I took my family there and both my daughter and I receive medium rare steaks that were seriously undercook. Rare at best. I decided to give them another chance and I took a client there for dinner. Again, my steak was seriously underdone. And, we both ordered baked potatoes, only to find out they only had one baked potato available. It would be an hour before any more were ready! Steak restaurants should a) know how to prepare a steak and b) not run out of baked potatoes. The pickles are good, however.

In a quick summary, food definitely outshined service on our visit, but the longer story is worth telling… The European aversion to ice in drinks incidentally gave me a quick«early warning system» of the service to be expected at any establishment. If a server can hear and actually deliver«water, no ice, double lemon», all will be well. That night I got a glass packed with ice and only an ounce of water plus one lemon. The restaurant has four types of Bison Ridge wines. A cabernet appeared a safe choice in anticipation of red meat to follow. My order included indicating the wine and precise pointing at the menu. Well, I got a Chardonnay instead… Luckily, by then pecan encrusted trout was calling my name, lucky mistake. Another consistent indicator or ultimate restaurant quality is its coffee, especially at dinner time. It took two tries to finally get it(forgotten by the server at first try with dessert…). When it came, my estimate of sitting on the burner would be 3 – 4 hours, since lunch. Now to the happy experience of food. Delicious crispy pickles as a starter — brilliant! Trout — nice enough, although pecan encrusted appeared more along the lines of «breaded with occasional chunks of pecans». Tangy sauce that came with it was delicious. The fries did not look different, but surprised with hot fresh crispness. Cole slaw cut in heftier chunks of cabbage that usual — fresh and mild. Haagen Dazs ice cream and shakes is a simple, but a smart choice. Like the pickles, it will stick in your memory and bring you back, as soon as the memory of service fades…

We have passed this place many a times but finally decided to step in. So glad we did! Homey/American feeling atmosphere, once seated you get a small bowl of half-sours(half pickle/half cucumber). Eco-friendly straws. A mirror at your booth… just FYI. Having no idea they served bison meat, I pursued the menu only to find the option of burgers with regular beef or bison. Once we inquired the waitress informed us that we could try a sample to ensure we like it before we ordered. It was delicious! Very tender and lean. Cooked to perfection! We booth got burgers, I had the fries and he had the onion rings. We loved all of it! Couldn’t find a fault if I wanted to. Definitely one of our top faves for Carmel area!

I was headed to grab pizza for dinner, when a steak craving but me with a strong right hook. I «yelped» for a steakhouse & this came up first with decent ratings– so we redirected our gps & hit up this joint. Absolutely obsessed with the small details of this restaurant, such as the paper straws, brown paper table cloths & a suave saloon style bar. The filet was decent, not worth $ 22. My asparagus were delicious & the onion rings were spot on. What wasn’t acceptable was the volume coming from the kitchen staff while they sang«I’m sorry Mrs. Jackson». Discussed how they didn’t like being up early(mind you it’s 8pm on a Saturday night) & just overall annoying jibberish being squawked at each other, at a level high enough to be heard over the entire restaurant. I am all for a loud, happy, energetic environment but this was just unprofessional to me. I will probably come back because I really liked the asparagus & onion rings, but I will without a doubt sit outside. I’m halfway convinced that a brick wall will drown out the sound of the kitchen staff.

The décor is made up of lots of wood and leather as you would expect from a western place. The bar stretches the length of the dining room and really makes the saloon theme complete. The only thing missing from my imagination was a set of double doors at the entrance. The server was terrific. She really knew the menu and was super efficient. he was there with suggestions like when my friend couldn’t decide between fries or onion rings she offered a half and half. We were a table of seven and one plate was slow coming to the table. The manager was there to apologize and assure us the food was being expedited. It arrived two minutes later. Most places would have let our food sit in the window for the two minutes instead of making the extra effort. The entrée of choice for us was the Avalon Bison Burger cooked medium rare. With Gruyère and grilled onions it is a terrific burger. The onion rings are huge and crispy on the outside. I had the bleu burger and really enjoyed the touch of bacon and bleu cheese on my perfectly cooked Bison. For those not looking for red meat there are also numerous chicken and fish choices available. One of our party had a fish sandwich and she said it was delicious. There is a full bar of course with local beers on tap along with a wide range of national bottles. I hear the margaritas are top notch too and not too sweet. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the place is kid friendly. They have a great kids menu including mac and cheese and some kid sized sliders. This is a great restaurant and I recommend it for celebrations and family dining.

It says traditional American but the food is unique here and so delicious! The service is always quick and polite and they have some excellent staff. The décor is classy old western and is very well done. I’ve never had a bad meal here. The meatloaf dinner is a twist on a traditional family meal and doesn’t fail to deliver. The everything but the kitchen sink burger is one of my favorite meals here, you’ve got to try it. Ted’s is one of my staple favorite restaurants and I always enjoy a meal here.

An interesting saloon concept. Most noteworthy is the fact that they serve bison. It’s such a delicious red meat that people should eat more often. Their fries are hand cut, milkshakes are hand scooped. They even have Heinz ketchup which isn’t common in Indiana restaurants.

You know the phrase«water, water everywhere… but not a drop to drink»?? Well this place just screams«bison, bison everywhere… all all kinds of versions to eat»!! I was blown away by how many ways you can get bison here at this joint. I went with the Avalon burger topped with caramelized onions, Gruyère, bleu cheese, garlic aioli, and arugula. It was seriously delicious, like whoa. The bison wasn’t as game-y as you might fear so I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. Also, this burger was honking, like half a pound honking. Seriously though, this girl ate the whole thing and loved it. On the side, I thought I would be a bit«healthier» than carb-laden fry deliciousness so I got the house made coleslaw instead. While it was good, it was just as caloric, if not more, than the fries. I was actually really sad when I found that out. Because now had I not only deprived myself of fries, but I had even made an apparently worse decision under the guise of truly trying to be «better». Darn it! Well, moral of the story, I’m getting the fries next time, or maybe the onion rings. They looked giant and awesome. One star off for the slightly slow service. We seemed forgotten at times. We didn’t really care though, in the end, because my group had plenty to talk about, but just keep that in mind.
