Founded in 1987, William A. Karges Fine Art is widely recognized as one of the premier galleries specializing in historically important Early California paintings executed between 1880 and 1940. Granville Redmond, Edgar Payne, Maurice Braun, Franz Bischoff, Marion Kavanaugh Wachtel, Percy Gray, and William Wendt are among the artists in the gallery’s holdings. A member of the Fine Art Dealer’s Association, a select group of the nation’s leading galleries, Karges Fine Art is known for its superior level of scholarship and museum quality publications. The Karges Galleries also handle fine American paintings by artists such as Robert Vonnoh and Childe Hassam. All purchases and consignments are handled on a personal and private basis.

Patrick Kraft, Director, Carmel:
Patrick Kraft was born in Los Angeles in 1957. Patrick received a D.E.U.G. I degree from the Universite de Poitiers, France in l978 and his B.A. degree in European History and French from UCSB in l979, followed by an MBA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in 1981. In 1987 Patrick was hired by William Karges to open William A. Karges Fine Art in Carmel and has been the Director of the Carmel gallery to this day.

Karges Fine Art’s Southern California gallery since 1988, I am considered one of the leading experts in this field, and have appraised paintings for both private collectors and major museums. I have served as the President and Vice-President of the Historical Collections Committee of the Laguna Art Museum and as the Program Chairman and Treasurer of the American Art Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art
