Sierra View Funeral Chapel & Crematory

I could not have been more pleased with this business. During one of the most stressful points in my life, I felt everything was handled with respect and dignity. The place was recommended by someone who experiences death on a regular basis. They mentioned that the prices were fair and that it was always received praise from the families. I felt it was worth the drive.

When our uncle passed away we had the good fortune to find Sierra View Funeral Chapel. Thomas Eyre, the funeral director, without a doubt, has been a Godsend to our family. Thomas is kind, calm and after speaking with him I felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. Funerals are not something one is well versed in; however, Thomas knows the industry quite well. He helped us through a myriad of paperwork, insurance and VA benefits with the expertise of a seasoned and compassionate professional. Thanks to Thomas he has made what could be a difficult time and experience as relaxing and easy as it could possibly be. We appreciate all he has done for our family and we will be forever grateful.

My father recently passed away and we used Sierra View for the cremation. They were so nice and kind and easy to be around and didn’t rush us. It was a really good experience. My mom had used them years before when a friend passed away and it was nice then too. Highly recommend.

It feels a little funny to leave a review for a funeral home, but I really wanted to thank and commend the team at Sierra View. We lost my father in October 2012 and I have been wanting to leave a review since then. In the midst of my grief, I have forgotten the name of the person that helped us, but he was so kind, professional and empathetic during every interaction I had with him. We chose to do the picture memorial and requested a special song be played. He said he would do his best and asked for us to bring it in on a CD. On the day of the service, he had been able to download the song and add it to the slideshow. That was so nice of him and I really appreciated the extra step he took for us. Thank you, Sierra View, for treating us with dignity and respect when we needed it most.

Unfortunately I have to give this facility only 1 star because they made several critical errors. My uncle passed away unexpectedly and I was put in charge of making all of the final arrangements. I made the arrangements at Sierra View’s «sister facility» Affordable Cremation and Burial Center in Sacramento. Unfortunately my Uncle needed a bigger casket that wouldn’t fit in the door frame of affordable cremation and burial center’s viewing room so they arranged for the viewing to be at Sierra View. The day of the viewing I arrived and was quite happy with the facility. It was much nicer than I expected and very spacious. I initially thought that the viewing was going to go very smoothly however that was not the case. My biggest complaint is that in the middle of my Uncle’s viewing Sierra View had scheduled a conference with another family to make their arrangements for their loved one. This wouldn’t have been a problem however my uncle’s viewing was held in the chapel and the lobby is an open area where a lot of my family was sitting and taking a break from the emotional difficulties that had presented during the viewing. The other family that arrived was a large family and they crowded in the lobby taking up the rest of the seating and talking loudly while my family members were sitting their crying. I thought it was very rude of them and rude of Sierra View to schedule a meeting with another family in the middle of a viewing. Unfortunately the situation escalated and got much worse… the family was called back into their meeting room and the lobby had returned to a quiet place for family to grieve while others arrived to pay their respects. But then shouting, screaming and yelling began to bellow throughout the entire facility– fighting could be heard in the chapel, the lobby and outside. My family was stunned and I was very upset that such an interruption was allowed to occur. It got worse… family members burst out of the meeting room into the lobby where they began arguing and yelling even more. I spoke with the owner, Craig, and let him know that this was all very inappropriate and that they should have never scheduled a meeting in the middle of a viewing. He told me he typically does not schedule meetings when a viewing is scheduled and that he would keep the family quiet. At this point though the damage was already done, it was beyond rude and so disrespectful of the other family AND the facility. They did allow us to stay an extra 45 minutes to help make up for it which was nice however did not even begin to make up for such a disruption.
My next complaint comes the next day, the day of the funeral. Sierra View was to transport my Uncle’s body and all of the flowers to our family church at noon, an hour before the services. When they arrived it became immediately clear that the flowers were not brought. My sister went irrate and I tried my best to difuse the situation, I pulled the driver and other worker to the side and asked what happened… I was told that the flowers were in a part of the building that they didn’t have access to and that’s why they were not brought. That answer was completely unacceptable! We’re talking about $ 600 worth of flowers left behind because and I quote «we didn’t have access to that part of the facility» I immediately informed the worker that he needed to return to Sierra View Funeral Chapel and get the flowers. Flowers may seem unimportant to some but they meant a lot to my mother because she wanted my Uncle to have a ton of flowers at his service… she felt that the flowers were a way to show her brother and others how much my uncle was loved and missed. I directed the church to hold off on services until the flowers arrived and about an hour later the employee arrived with the flowers, we started the funeral services about 40 minutes late because of the issue with the flowers. My last complaint is about the worker who brought my uncle’s body over to the church. He was a very elderly man and I will admit that the my sister did indeed chew him out and curse at him about leaving the flowers. HOWEVER he should have put himself in her shoes… she purchased the flowers and spent hundreds of dollars on them because they were so important to our mother and purchasing the flowers was her contribution to help my mother since she and my father had paid for everything. Now to my grievance… the elderly worker went around after the service telling several family members about how my sister yelled and cursed at him. This was so rude! He even went as far as to tell the officiant of the funeral who I’m sure he had no idea was actually a family member. It was very embarassing, I know that my sister shouldn’t have cursed at him BUT he did make a huge mistake and working in the funeral industry you would think he would be able to brush off such a thing and have more professionalism. Because of the many mistakes and lack of professionalism I DO NOT recommend this place :(

My husband died just yesterday, and I really had no clue who to use for the cremation services. Although it seemed odd to rely on Unilocal reviews to help with the decision, that’s all I could think of. I’m so glad for the two that posted the 5-​star reviews. The experience those reviewers described was exactly what I was looking for, and what I got. I had Thomas to guide me through the arrangements. From the second I heard his voice on the phone, I knew I was in good hands. His genuine warmth, and kind and caring nature was so perfect for me. The arrangements were easy to discuss, no pressure to trump up added services, and really a delightful experience under the circumstances. i went in to the location wiith tears in my eyes, and left with a smile. I highly highly highly recommend them.
Plus, it wasn’t creepy. :)

My father passed away two weeks ago, and I was devastated. I live in Seattle, and when I came to town I had to plan all of the services. I called at least ten other funeral homes and crematories. All of them were over three times the cost, and they treated you like a number, not like someone who just went through a tragedy. I called Sierra View and spoke with Gary. It turns out that my husband and I had to field the entire cost of the funeral, and could not afford much. Sierra View was incredibly reasonable, but it never felt like a cheap place. They treated my family and I with empathy and respect. Gary was wonderful. We had to fly home the day after my father was cremated, and because e memorial service took so long we weren’t able to pick up the ashes before they closed. Gary came into the office the morning we were to fly home, on his day off no less, and met us there with my fathers ashes ready. This whole experience has been painful and life changing for me, but I will be forever grateful to them for making things just a little more bearable.

It’s tough to face death, especially when it’s unexpected and little financial preparation has been made. Sierra was an inexpensive place to get cremation services like many others, but Sierra is not like the other inexpensive cremation services we spoke to.
In this day and age, most funeral services are corporate chains with impersonal call –centers handling scheduling and the business interactions. Sierra was done face-​to-​face with a wonderful gentleman named Gary. We didn’t have a lot of money but needed the closure provided by a viewing. Most viewing services add over $ 1000 to the cost, with ID viewings being a cheap and dirty alternative. We opted for the ID viewing for financial reasons and NEVER felt like we had purchased budget services. All other places told us we would have 10 – 15 minutes roughly to view through an ID viewing. Sierra placed the decendent in a comfortable viewing room, presentably, and allowed the family to trickle in and out for nearly an hour.
I could go on, but this is a funeral home review, so I’ll just sum up to say that our experience in this unpleasant time of our lives, was made infinitely better by the service and care we received from Sierra View Funeral Chapel.
