I ate the hot dogs, chips, and soda, but really came for the Love. The decency. The humor. The personality oasis.

Bye Bye Bill… A hotdog stand now in heaven to quench the love that is always needed everywhere. I really will miss you on that corner with your wit and caring banter. past review… ANOASIS … Don’t drive by without stopping… Great hotdogs, views, customers are a hoot and Bill has a viable suggestion for any challenge. I met him as he was lecturing in a business class. An oasis… Seal Rookery down the trail… Very COOL

So sorry to hear Bill Connell has passed away! My husband and I were there today, and saw the memorials for him. Loved his hot dogs & red licorice, but the best part was him — such a positive guy, so friendly. What a great loss.

So so sorry to hear that Surf Dog’s owner, Bill Connell, has passed away. He was a stand-up guy, always so nice. His hot dogs were great, with fantastic views. I drove by the freeway exit this past weekend, trying to point out the stand to my companion, and could not find it, I didn’t know yet that Bill had passed. We will have a hot dog later this week in his honor. I’m not aware of anyone else working the cart other than Bill, so I expect this business will remain closed.

So sorry to hear Bill has passed away. He always was a wonderful man who fought for Veteran’s rights. When I walked my dog out at the Bluffs he always offered her a Surf Dog. He was so kind and friendly to everyone. RIP Bill.

Love this guy! Awesome hot dogs, with so many choices. Great prices, $ 5 for a hot dog, drink and bag of chips. Coolest guy too, my husband sat in the car since we had our dog with us, and he delivered his food to him.

Was literally there five min ago. This guy was awesome. The hot dog was good but the selection was incredible(many non-pork options) and the price is so low. A dodger dog for $ 3?! I pay $ 8 at the park for the same thing. Best of all: my girlfriend dad was driving us and stayed in the car, but he got an all beef dog with chili delivered right to him! For FREE!!!

Best place for a quick hot dog! Anytime we drive to Ventura we stop in and grab a dog from Bill! He is so awesome and we love supporting our veterans!

This place has huge tasty wieners. The wieners are so big you literally gag on them when trying to wrap your mouth around them. I love how the juices from the wiener squirt in your mouth. I usually have 2 wieners at once to satisfy my craving. The wiener is served hot and sweaty. I love licking the hot sweaty juice off the wiener and then tossing it back down my throat. Be careful swallowing the wiener juice as sometimes the juicy wiener will squirt its warm juice all over your face. Personally, I love that.

Amazing guy! We didn’t have any cash, but let us have hot dogs anyway! Couldn’t believe how nice this guy was. Getting gas and cash now, he’ll be getting a large tip! Hot dogs were delicious, a perfect stop along the freeway.

If you like hotdogs this little spot has got a big reputation in SB. If you don’t like hot dogs, well… I don’t know what else to say other than what’s wrong with you?

Don’t underestimate this little cart parked right off the exit! The cart owner Bill is one of the most caring, welcoming, and humble business owners you will ever meet! My first time here, he clearly saw my hesitation and offered a tour around the cart & some tips on where to sit and what hotdog to order. Although I only ordered a hotdog, he welcomed me to chips & pink lemonade to try for free. My experience was so pleasant that I ended up leaving him $ 10 even though my order was about $ 3(if I remember correctly). I can’t wait to be back!

The reviews about Surf Dogs were totally true! Although the hotdogs aren’t anything super fantastic, they were still good. The guy who runs the stand makes the experience worth while though. He tried to only charge me $ 10 when my meal for 2 was obviously $ 13. I just have him a $ 20 because I had a great time chatting. If I’m ever back in the area, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

I had to stop by a local spot off the 101 fwy while I was heading to Santa Ynez and I am so glad I found this place! Bill is the most humble, down-to-earth, gentleman you will randomly meet. This place is literally right off the 101 fwy and should have a sign off the fwy. Best pit stop I have ever made. A hot dog– let me count thy ways to make em… um two or three? The difficulty level of making a dish increases with the limited amount of ingredients but this doesn’t stop Mr. Bill. You get the bun, hot dog, and choice of topping –chili, sweet onions(grilled), or sauerkraut. He is able to make me have such an amazing«me» experience. I took the pink lemonade and dog to a rock in the Carpinteria Bluff and just enjoyed the birds chirping, beautiful scenery, and amazing dog. Not to mention the pink lemonade tasted like it was infused in rose water and was so fresh and satisfying. Lastly and most importantly, the turkey dog melted in my mouth! So good. Cheers!

The map on Unilocal is right. It is a parking lot; and YES, this place does get 5 stars. And probably the best kind and caring service you’ll ever get. Bill Connell is such an amazing person, there is no wonder he has been selling hot dogs for all these years. It feels like he is more interested in making you smile instead of the money you need to pay him. I enjoyed my time there, plus, you can also walk to the bluff for an amazing ocean view. Hot dogs were great. Limited in variety, but that is also a huge plus; less time to sit and think about what you want. I definitely recommend you stop for a hello and a bite. Keep an eye out, he’s out there.

On a recent trip to Santa Barbara, I introduced my wife to this legendary spot in Carpinteria, located off the Bailard exit of the 101 freeway. The last time I was at Surf Dog was many moons ago, so I was fired up to see that Bill was still in business. Bill happily snapped a few photos for us before serving us our meals. If you know how expensive Santa Barbara can be, then you’ll appreciate Surf Dog’s $ 5 lunch deal: your choice of hot dog and toppings, chips, and a drink. I went with my favorite from long ago, the polish dog with chili, sauerkraut, onions, and spicy peppers. We inhaled our meals and Bill gave us a few red vines to go. Bill is one of the most genuine and friendliest people you’ll meet. His good mood is infectious and, seriously, how could you not be happy while chowing down on delicious hot dogs with the ocean nearby? Highly recommended.
