Barney’s Ranch

We really wanted to like Barney’s Ranch as it is so close to our house, but unfortunately our Pierre always came home with some type of injury. We have boarded him 3 times and the first time, he came home with a sore under one of his paws. It healed quickly and my husband and I brushed it off. The second time we noticed when we got home that Pierre had a slight limp and was trying not to put any weight on that leg. By the next day he was walking normally so we didn’t end up calling Barneys.
However, this last time my husband picked him up he had a huge gash on the top of his head. I called immediately and was told they would ask all the staff about Pierre’s wound and someone would be giving me a call back shortly. I made this call at 10:00 am and did not receive a call back until 5:30 pm. I was instructed to email pictures of Pierre’s wound so they could investigate more. It has now been 2 days and I have still not heard back.
Fellow dog owners, you know that our pups are like our children, and I find it unacceptable that the dogs are not being monitored in the play yard. That’s what we are paying for!
I understand that accidents might happen, but something like this should have been noted and we should have been informed immediately. Instead, it obviously doesn’t seem like a big deal to them as I still haven’t heard from them.
I would think twice if I were you about leaving your dog at a place that doesn’t even watch them. Pierre will be going to a new boarding place from now on.

Love this place. We found out through neighbors about this place. Our dog, Epson can have issues with other dogs if toys are around. They do not have any toys out for the dogs, which is AWESOME. He is so well behaved there and has never had a problem. He can be shy of people but he seems to love everyone there. The staff seems really knowledgable about dog behaviors. He has also had a few complimentary baths on days he likes to have a little too much fun! We have only boarded him once but had a great experience with that as well. When boarding, they also kept him out at daycare during the day so we was not cooped up in the kennel. Can’t say enough great things about this place!

I’m torn on this review. Owners are nice and accommodating, but the dogs came home crazy sick after each boarding session in the past year. Last time was giardia and it required meds and multiple carpet cleaning sessions. Will likely try a new place next time. And yes, our dogs have been boarded on a regular basis throughout the years.

SPARKLE and I love this place. Convenient location, friendly staff that know SPARKLE when he enters the door, clean and there is video streaming so you can see your pooch throughout the day.
SPARKLE gets excited when we exit the freeway, he definitely knows where he is going, excited to get out of the car for a fun day with his furry pals and he is exhausted at the end of the day!

Our dogs Lulu and Franklin love going to Barney’s when we are out of town! Lulu is only 2 so she enjoys the outdoor play. Franklin is older at almost 11 yrs and they bring him in if it’s too hot outside, etc. We have never had an issue and would recommend. Have had great contact with the owners who are available whenever we call.

If I could give 0 stars I would, but at least my dog is starting to do better, so 1 star will do…
We decided to board my Aussie Shepherd for about 1 week while getting married out of state. Dog went in in good condition, happy as usual and with a healthy appetite. Over the course of the week, it seemed like every time I checked in on the webcam my dog was getting chased or mounted by other dogs, never saw anyone stop this behavior (by the way, there was only 1 webcam which was able to see my dog. The ad makes it sound like you can see your dog in the kennel, but all you get is a view of the run, and an interior view of some wall inside the building).
After picking him up, I realized what a mistake it was to board him there. He smelled so bad and his feet were soaked in urine. He was limping and had an open sore on the top of his front paw, but when we picked him up, they said «there was nothing to report, he did great». If they would have paid attention, or cared about the individual dog, they would have noticed the pronounced limp and wound.
He also had obvious emotional issues for several days (maybe a week or two); he was timid and not happy go lucky as he used to be. He also refused to eat for several days after picking him up. It took about a week of slow progress to get him to eat alone in 1 spot (at his bowl) without taking a mouthful of food to the corner of the room to hide and only eat a couple bites.
My biggest complaint is that he picked up some illness/​virus/​bacteria there, because he has had diarrhea for 30+ days since picking him up. He didn’t have any intestinal issues prior to dropping him off. Vet has yet to find a cause/​solution.
Please. Do yourself, and most importantly your dog, a favor and don’t board your dog here for any extended period of time.

Barney’s is great! Lynk has been here for daycare a few times now and loves it! He is always exhausted when I pick him up, from playing so much. There is never a point during the day when I am unable to check on him via the webcams. Even though Lynk has only been a few times, the staff already know him by name. They are very nice and seem to really care about the animals. I highly recommend Barney’s Ranch, and so does Lynk. :)

I am fighting back tears due to my experience with my 5 month old Italian mastiff and this place. My tears are from anger and sadness. I will take responsibility for assuming that the owner & staff knew that an Italian mastiff was indeed a cane corso but that’s about it. I had been corresponding and sending my pups vet records to the staff the entire week only to have them say yeah sounds great bring him for his trial! I drop him off this morning to get a phone call saying they had a problem because on my application I stated he was an Italian mastiff but his vet records say he’s a cane corso and they don’t take corsos. My response was he is a mastiff, he said they aren’t the same. He was rude. My fiancé then got off work early to pick him up because I felt they would not take care of him because of how rude he was to me. Titus came from the back scared, peeing all over the place and whining… All characteristics he does not display. It’s so heartbreaking. Again, I can take responsibility for not doing better research but my pups experience at his first daycare was terrifying and we as owners feel responsible. Not only was the staff informing me I didn’t know my breed but also did not care for my sweet pup. He’s spoiled, so loved and just wants to cuddle. Please do your research before you take your dog here I do not want any owners to experience what we have!

If the response of the owner below is representative of this establishment, I now understand why the quality of Barney’s Ranch has decreased since our previous boarding visits.
First of all, she has stated that the comments of my reviews are false when many facts in her response are false as well:
1. Yes, I have several negative reviews but I also have MANY positive ones. If I had written a review for Barney’s after my first few boarding visits, I actually would have given them 5 stars but sorry I didn’t get the chance to do so before writing this 1 star review that I truly feel they deserve. This is a forum for ratings on businesses and no, not all of them are great or deserving of more than a couple stars.
2. No, I did not feel like I was rude when making the reservation. I told the front desk clerk that I had recalled that we previously boarded our dogs for $ 38, not $ 45 a night and asked the reason for the difference. They stated that it was their «long term boarding rate» but I mentioned I had never boarded them for more than 3 – 4 nights. They kindly responded saying they would accommodate the $ 38/​nt price.
3. No, I did not call in several times to check in on my dogs. I called once when I happened to view the webcam and saw that a larger dog was jumping on my dog and yes, I was abrupt because I felt that they were not doing a good job of restraining the dog from jumping on my 5 pound dog multiple times. I never said anything about them «going to daycare and play» — my point is if these dogs are larger and shy, they should not be jumping on my dog constantly when my dog is trying to RUN AWAY FROM the other dog. That is NOT playing. If in fact, the dog is 15 pounds, that means he/​she was 3 TIMES the size of my 5 pound yorkie. I’m 120 pounds, I would NOT want someone 360 pounds jumping on me. And no, Barneys DID NOT provide daily progress reports or health check ups.
4. Lastly, I know Barney’s is lying outright because actually, I was NOT the one to pick up the dogs. My husband picked up our 2 dogs while I was still in California. So there’s NO WAY I could have argued about not receiving a discount nor could I have refused to pay the bill. And no, he was never told not to return to this facility (although this will NOT be a problem).
I’m really sorry that Barney’s feels the need to lie in order to justify their actions. I felt that the review I wrote was a fair assessment of my last visit with Barney’s. I don’t think they need to LIE about me as a customer to validate themselves because if they were true to who they are as a business, they should recognize that maybe their service this past time was maybe an anomaly and that they should be more aware for the safety and comfort of the pets they take care of. At the end of the day, our pets are our babies. I can’t tell you I would have written any different of a review if it was my own child.

Barney’s Ranch is in the perfect location for me to easily get on and off the highway during rush hour to pick or drop off my dog. I take her here for day camp on occasions. The staff is very friendly and always seems to love on the dogs.
My favorite thing about this camp is they leave the dogs outside all day so the aren’t cooped up in a kennel. My dog isn’t one to play with many other dogs but she does love to just be outside!
The best part is the doggy cam where you can watch your dog all day long (it gets addicting). Love seeing how much fun they have and how often the employees attend to them.

We love this place! We as in me, my husband and our dog Khaleesi! For us, we travel a bunch and normally are gone for 2 – 3 weeks at a time and every time we drop khaleesi off at Barneys. She is always excited when we arrive because of all the dogs there and how they take such good care of her. We easily drop her off with food (not even pouched), her favorite toys, and a blanket and literally just hand it over and everything is taken care of from there. There has never been a worry or issue!
In addition im attached to my dog and knowing I can watch her through there webcams is amazing. The best part is that you don’t have to pay to view their webcams!
Their staff is great and understanding and we would not choose anywhere else to board our dog khaleesi!

Our dog, Watson, is a 3 year old Welsh terrier. He’s crazy high energy, and we’ve had problems at other kennels with employees not knowing how to handle him or his proclivity towards over-​excitement around other dogs.
The kind folks at Barney’s have been amazing. I’m not sure what it is about the zen of the place, but watching him on their webcam he’s the calmest I’ve seen him even when there are lots of other dogs on the lot. Plus he comes home tired, which we always appreciate! The owners have always been super friendly, and were more than happy to help us find some good veterinary options when we first moved to the area.
I have only positive things to say about Barney’s!

Our dogs Lucky and Bear love Barney’s Ranch and their staff. Our little one can be shy and even she comes home happy. They play outside all day long with other dogs and are given breaks when needed. The staff watches over them and seems to really care about our dogs. We take ours for daycare and overnight stays and we love to watch them play on the doggie cams they have set up. Our dogs always come home happy and healthy. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I stumbled upon this place after purchasing a Groupon. What a gem! The people there LOVE, I mean are totally obsessed with dogs. They know Mister Beaux by name when I call up, they remember me. The last time I went he apparently got messy running around their acres of land and they bathed him for me at no charge. There is no place I would rather send my sweet Maltese.

Boarded my pups Max & Bella here and it was a great experience.
The staff was friendly & I felt comfortable leaving them for a night stay.

Our little poodle, Conan, LOVES Barney’s Ranch! He is always happy when we pick him up. I’m happy because I can check him on the web-​cam when we are out of town.
The first time I went to Barney’s, I showed up without making an appointment to see what it was like. They were so welcoming and gave me a tour of the place. I was so impressed because it was so clean and didn’t smell like cleaner or dog – it just smelled good. And was perfectly clean. We have boarded Conan there 3 times now and will probably continue to do so.

I’ve taken my boys to Barney’s Ranch for a couple years now. There is nothing like the feeling when my boys run into their arms when we get there. At the vet, I have to pull them in the doorway. Since I travel, I watch Frankie & Sonny on the webcam and always feel better seeing my boys chilling with the rest of the crew. I love the location — right on my way to DFW and right on I 35 when I have to travel south. I also appreciate that the owners know me and my hounds. When I call, they see my number, and right off the bat tell me my boys are fine. What outstanding service!!!

I’m a big fan after our first boarding experience. Some background: Josie is a sensitive, skittish, 50 lbs rescued mutt who is terrified of new places and loud noises. I’m a helicopter mom and have had a bad experience with boarding her in the past.
Mathias, the owner, is extremely professional and responsive. I had some special requests. ie. had Josie picked up by a Pet Taxi service on check out day and also emailed him 2 days in a row to get an update. Barney’s Ranch immediately responded to my emails.
The cameras are a plus although Josie stayed out of camera’s view. I requested a tour on our first day of daycare to do some reconnaissance before boarding her for 3 days and was impressed by how clean the facility is and the dogs were all excited, happy and yappy. There always seems to be several guys working outside handling the dogs. I’ve been to other locations that smelled strongly of urine or feces. Not so here. Very spotless and tidy. Mathias is also planning improvements to his place.
Just a tip… This is hard to spot when you exit the hwy. It’s right before the Shell gas station. We’ll be coming back here again.

Our lab mix Nora loves staying at Barney’s. Since she is a bigger dog than our other smaller dogs, we wanted her to be at a place that gives her more time outside a kennel than in. We have had her stay 3 times this summer so far and we have been very happy! The service, convenience, and prices are right for our family. She will be back soon again for another family trip:)

I have been taking my 3 lb Yorkie Jaxson to Barney’s Ranch when I go out of town for about a year now. They are super clean, reasonably priced and don’t nickel and dime you for play time and simple affection. They remember who he is whenever I call and he is in a safe, secure place when I leave him there with people who care! Suffice it to say he enjoys his time there! I just got back from a 5 day trip and when I came to pick him up they had given him a bath and he was happy and smelling fresh!!!

We are having a mold crisis in our house, so with the kitchen being gutted and some massive remodeling pending, we needed to figure out somewhere for our dogs to go during the day.
Thankfully, I found the great reviews for Barney’s Ranch. The staff here are so friendly and kind. Before bringing our dogs, we stopped by for a tour and could immediately tell that the employees were kind and caring people. They keep their facility spotless. Like, I could use some tips and tricks from them because they somehow manage to keep it cleaner with a ton of dogs than my house is with just two.
A huge bonus is the webcams they have hooked up so you can keep an eye on your dog throughout the day. We are weirdos who nanny cam our dogs as it is, so it’s awesome to be able to see them while they are at daycare.
The best part is our puppies come home happy and tuckered out from playing all day. We started this out of necessity, but I think we are going to try to look into budgeting a couple of visits a week for our dogs even after the kitchen crisis of 2013 subsides.
