Good place to get different Latin food if your tired of the same old beans and rice. They do some awesome dishes with pork, And I do love me some pork. The pupusas and tamales are slightly different than Mexican tamales but just as good if not better. They add ingredients like hard boiled eggs in these and other edible goodies. I come here for the«chicharrones» porkskins. And of course they do have sweet breads that look really taste good although I haven’t tried them all but what I have, they are good.

great bakery and good food for cheap. The best thing i like about this place is if you need a last minute birthday cake, they have some already made without decoration. you can them the what name you need and they will put the name and decorated it in 20 min. That way when you show up with your cake people think you ordered the cake weeks ago, and the taste is definitely bakery fresh.

Awesome little bakery and a unique food option in dallas. Simply put, there aren’t any Guatemalan anythings in dallas, so this place is different. I only had lunch so my rating precludes judgement of the baked goods. Looked good though. Lunch was packed, lots of customers, and all of them were spanish speaking. That’s a good sign. The menu is cool but also pretty mysterious because the names of the options aren’t like that of mexican food like one might expect. When you look in the glass case you see food that resembles mexican food but not quite. I got three types of tamales. Pork, chicken, and loroco(a small green bean type flower pod). The pork and chicken were good and the masa had a flan-like consistency. Very smooth, with larges chunks of dark meat and even some bones. Lots of flavor. The loroco wasn’t impressive though. It’s a tiny vegetable that doesn’t have a prevalent flavor and the masa really takes over so you can’t even distinguish it much. The Puerco adobado was really well seasoned. A little dry but the flavor was really good and eats well with a tortilla. The beans have tennis ball sized chunks of pork in it so I would encourage to order some. You gotta get the chicharron. They serve entire chunks of fried pork belly where the skin is more chip-like than puffy. It’s super crispy and salty and feels like candy to pork fans. It’s a must, must get. I wish the fried pork they served hailed from the sky. You feel fat as hell afterward but in that good kind of way. I might be rating La Mejor a little high but it’s mostly really good food, extremely friendly people, and a super clean place to eat. Eating there is just right.

Not authentic! I am new to the area and was very excited to have found this bakery… I thought. La Mejor falls short on delivering authentic Guatemalan bread. Unfortunately, the only thing that tasted close to Guatemalan bread were the champurradas(cookie like sweet bread), and ojaldras(long shaped cookie like sweet bread) everything else taste like Mexican bread. Needles to say I will not come back to La Mejor for Mexican bread :)

Checked out this place and it was a cafeteria style kinda place where the food is already prepared. Great for a quick lunch for sure. I ended up getting a soup that came with two sides for about 6 bucks. The green salsa definitely had kick to it and the orchata was delicious. Friendly staff that had to help me order because the menu was all in Spanish.

It doesn’t look like there has been a review of this place for quite some time. Over a year to be exact. Time to fix that. As the other reviews mentioned, this is a Guatamalan Bakery and they serve lunch/dinner as well. I was here once before, maybe two years ago and ate a meal, but darn if I could remember it. I’m sure it was good, or I wouldn’t go back. I live in Denton, so unless I have a reason to be in Carrollton(I was visiting my insurance agent a few doors down) there’s no reason for me to have a meal here. I went for some pasteries today. They have alot of sweet breads, basically like the Mexican ones you see at the grocery stores, but they also had ones with pineapple, and cheese filled and cookies. I chose a sweet bread, a flat dough pastry with sugar on top and a piece of cheesecake. As the other reviews mentioned, if you don’t speak Spanish, you may have some difficulties, but they are friendly and do work with you. The food looked and smelled good and they have a small grocery area where you can pick up some refrigerated items as well as dry goods.

I have been to this place twice and looooooooved it! They have the best tamales in town, of course I’m not an expert in this field but they are pretty tasty! The outside storefront says«Panaderia Guatemalteca La Mejor» and you will be able to find them on facebook and also have a youtube video if you use the storefront name. It’s mainly a bakery with delicious pasteries and cakes, but also a delicious restaurant as well. The setting for the restaurant side is kind of cafeteria style with a display case filled with trays of guatemalan specialties, but there are dishes you can order as well. The first time I went, I ordered a chicken guatamalean tamale, a tamales de chipilin, plantains w/crema, tostada w/guacamole, and vegetable escabeche. Plus a agua fresca de pina to drink. Can you guess how much I paid??? Around $ 7 for the whole thing!!! Can you believe it!!! But rest assured the cheap price tag does not mean they skimp on quality or taste. It was very delicious, and I can’t express that enough. The tamales were moist and the masa was flavorful. The plantains were nicely grilled and sweet and the escabeche was refreshingly sour with a hint of heat. If it wasn’t so far from me I would probably go everyday. Lol. Communication is kind of hard if you don’t speak much spanish, but the servers there are very patient and polite and will over look your lack of spanish skills. On my second visit I bought pastries for my co-workers and they were phenomenal!!! The pastires were flakey, fillings were creamy, and most of all not too sweet, which I also appreciated. I highly recommend this place, whether or not you’re on a budget, you will surely be happy that you came! ^_^

The full name is La Mejor Guatemalan Panaderia I was DYING to go to the place for the longest time. Yesterday the opportunity came, when I was in this part of the neighborhood. It’s a big place with lunch and Guatemalan bakery together. The baked goods look fresh and delicious. I was overwhelmed with choices so I asked the lady, what she likes in my broken Spanish. Quien tu te gusta? or something like that. lol. I got a mix of 5 different breads and brought them home. oh my it was yummy. of course geoff and I didn’t eat all of it, that’s what Sunday is for. Don’t ask me what I got, but it was pretty good. Their lunch/dinner section looks great too, you just choose what you want. And they had plantains, beef, tamales, rice, beans, and more stuff that I can count. I can tell the locals come here and when I say that I’m talking about no white people and I was the only asian. That means it’s gotta be good right? WILLBEBACK, and to try their lunch food.
