Play Your Own Music is the best place in Carson City to find a variety of new and used musical instruments and music accessories. We have the very best guitar instructors in the area. We offer instruction for guitar, bass, piano, ukulele and many other instruments. We rent instruments for the local school band programs and carry the associated books and accessories. We repair guitars, other stringed instruments and drums. We also have a recording studio that operates in the after-​hours.

History

Established in 2007.

Vince Gates has been in the music retail business since 1989. He moved to Carson City in 2004 to manage Maytan Music Center’s new colossal location at 911 Topsy Ln. The rent proved to be too much for the operation there and it closed in two years. At that point Carson City was in need of a full service music store. Play Your Own Music was opened soon thereafter. The last 7 years have not been the best environment for growing a small retail business, but we have managed to keep the doors open an have managed to grow little by little. There are an average of 150 students who take lessons from our fine music instructors every week. That’s what it’s all about!
