Salon Kroma

I called from out of town 6 weeks in advance to make an appointment for a Sunday morning blowout for a wedding. The receptionist was very professional and friendly and I got an nice impression of the place. I was a little concerned that the appointment would be lost being made so far ahead, but 2 days before I received confirmation by phone and email. The salon was very clean, comfortable and attractive. My stylist, Amanda, asked me what I wanted and made some suggestions. She was delightful. Loved what she did and the style held up for a windy outdoor wedding, dancing, and is still looking good the next day. Thank you, Amanda.

First time here tonight and Artista (I probably butchered that and I’m sorry) took the picture I showed her… Okay 9 pictures I showed her… And made me hair look like exactly what I asked for. The atmosphere is cute… Which I prefer to the typical great clips layout. She was great and I was in and out with exactly what I asked for.

Artista has been my stylist for over two years. She is the best colorist /​stylist in town. I unfortunately was out of town and trusted others with my hair… Big mistake! Thank goodness artista was there to fix the mess. Everyone at the salon is super sweet and it is extremely reasonable. My cousin and aunt also now are clients of hers!

Love this salon and my stylist Jessica !!! She always does a great job and I don’t trust my hair to anyone else now. She even went out of her way to help fix me hair on a weekend when I was in distress ! Great experience every time!

After years of hopping from stylist to stylist, I’ve found a top-​drawer crew in Blake, Sandy, Suzi, Dara, Marjorie, and the Kroma team. Everything about the experience at Salon Kroma seems tailored from my own wish list. Appointments are easy to make online or via phone, every time. On the rare occasions that illness or backed up schedules necessitate a change in my appointment, I’m always notified in a timely manner and offered multiple options.
Blake, my stylist, is not only truly talented but has perfected the balancing act of actively listening to what you want while providing thoughtful suggestions to tweak what you want in a way that assures a lovely outcome. She is a true career hair artist committed to her craft and doing right by her clients. She manages to get the best out of my fine but thick, longish straight hair then turn around and get the best out of my mother’s short, corse, unpredictable waves. Her work with color is consistent and unfailingly beautiful. She’s a joy – funny, smart, warm, and engaging.
The rest of the staff share many of those traits. As a group they are unfailingly warm, conscientious, and professional. I’ve never been in a salon where the team spirit and investment in providing tailored, meaningful client service seems so readily and consistently evident.

I’m still shocked and upset by the experience I had at this place. I can’t speak for haircuts, but I would never recommend this place for a formal hair style. I asked for simple loose curls and my hair did not come out even remotely close to the picture I brought in. Unfortunately, it took over an hour of Amanda blow drying my hair, little sections at a time and rolling them up with round brushes to simulate curlers. At one point, I had six brushes weighing down my head. Not only was I in pain practically the entire session as my hair was continuously ripped out. The style came out extremely frizzy (which is bizarre considering I have silky hair). I didn’t have time to fix it before my event so my hair looked terrible :(
The manager I spoke with evidently does not care about customer service. She offered to wash the dry shampoo and awful style out, but she knew I didn’t have time — essentially an empty offer.

I went in to try out their new blow dry services. I saw Jen. She was nice but did not do a good job on my hair. I told her I wanted a lot of volume and also that I would like it to be curled. She didn’t fully blow dry my hair or brush it which I should have insisted, I know for my hair that’s what gives it volume. She scrunched it with her fingers to give it «texture». After she was done with my hair, it was flat at the top, curly in the middle, and about an inch and a half was straight on the bottom. It really looked horrible, I couldn’t believe it. I asked her if she could re curl the straight pieces on the bottom and she insisted it looked just like the picture I showed her. She then proceeded to curl all the ends and it was awkward like I was bothering her. When I went to pay they said, $ 65. I said I just got a blow out so the woman went and spoke with the manager and she said ok $ 45. I said, aren’t blow outs $ 35? She said yes, but since you went over the alllotted time for a blow out we have to charge you extra! What?! It was her mistake to fix, but I was running late so just paid. I won’t be back.

Love this place… ask for Nicole! For the past 8 years a friend of mine has done my hair. Recently I’ve not been 100% happy with the result so with much anxiety I called Salon Kroma. Do glad I did! Got an amazing cut with Nicole who was incredibly professional. Very comfortable salon, will definitely be back for the blow dry bar and my next cut!

I was really hoping to have a better experience based on other people’s comments. I came in for highlighting. I have had it done before at another place, but wasn’t able to get an appt with my regular stylist at another salon. After much deliberation, and checking reviews based on ‘highlighting’, I booked an appt at Salon Kroma.
The online booking experience was aces. I received a call after I booked, just to confirm what I had requested. I was told the stylist I had booked with was very skilled with highlighting dark hair.
I’m not sure if their idea of skilled is the same as mine.
I showed my stylist several photos of the color I was looking for, and let her know my hair can get up to platinum white by showing her some strands on my head that were that color. She still didn’t think it was possible… even with me showing her with my own hair that it could be done, and was done, in one sitting.
She put the product on my hair and all seemed fine. We went to the back to rinse my hair and I was told to keep my head in the bowl for another 10 mins while she used the second step. I have never ever ever ever ever sat in the hair washing chair while 1) unattended, and 2) for anything other than a shampoo and condition, yet alone for my hair to process. She same back, yes, I said I was left unattended at the hair wash station with my head tilted back into the bowl, and rinsed my hair. We went back to her station and she started to comb my hair.
I had to GO BACK to the hair wash station because she DIDN’T RINSE MY HAIR COMPLETELY. There was a large spot on the back of my head with suds still in it. I could hear the bubbles when she touched it.
We finally came back to her station and she started to dry and cut my hair. When she was done, I noticed my hair felt a bit like straw and was not as shiny as usual after I receive a dry, cut and style. When I got into my car, I noticed a bit of a burnt hair smell as well. I’ve used leave in conditioners for a week after my ‘experience’, and my hair is finally back to its shiny self.
I could not ever, in good conscious, go back. It felt like a one step above discount cuts experience.

I have found my salon home after 14 years of searching the Cary area! I called for next day appointments for my son and myself based on my son having been to this salon before. The receptionist was pleasant, helpful and most accommodating with my requests and questions. There was no pressure to book with a «senior» stylist, which I eventually did for the time slots I needed. Nicole listened to me, spent time before washing my hair evaluating it and asking me questions. We discussed color correction and there was NO pressure to get that started. Suzi cut my son’s hair. He is very particular about his style and she did a great job! When we got home, he saw a few strands he wanted detailed, called 2 hours before closing and was happily told to come right back for additional styling! Very pleased with the entire experience at Salon Kroma, Nicole, Suzi and the very nice woman at the front desk (sorry I don’t know your name yet)…looking forward to my keratin treatment and next haircut!

After searching and reading reviews online for local hair salon, I decided to go with Salon Kroma, Its close, I’ve seen it a million times and finally got the courage to make a same day appt and do a single process all over color and a haircut and style, I got my color done by Jaime, she was so sweet, welcoming and a joy to have doing my hair. She really relates and is so easy to talk to, Great at color which is most important. Then I had Suzie do my haircut, which was a huge concern for me until i sat in her chair and after seeing her start the haircut, my nerves were at ease and I knew I was with someone that knew what she was doing, She did exactly what I asked for, Having long hair and wanting to keep long hair, Just having it cleaned up, The layers put back in tact, Bangs added, She did a wonderful job, Loved conversating with her and I was very pleased walking out. Overall Salon Kroma had good prices, exactly what I would want to pay instead of hundreds and still walk out not happy. My experience was great and I am happy I found a place I can now go to. Very welcoming group! :)

First of all, I chose this place to take my daughter to for highlights because of all of the good reviews. We have recently moved to this area and good service can be hard to find.
I called ahead to get pricing and was told full highlights would start at $ 70. We have typically paid around $ 120 for full highlights when my daughter’s hair is very long, but right now, it’s just past her shoulders. The colorist, Susie, was very nice and talkative and seemed as if she knew what she was doing. She asked my daughter to comb out her hair as she went back to prepare the color, which was ok with my daughter, (her hair is very curly) however I thought was a little odd. During the rinsing of the product, the colorist said ’”oh, we may not even have to use a toner!”…then upon removing all the foils, she changed her mind and said’ «well, maybe we will have to use one.»
My daughter’s hair had a dark brown color applied to her natural dark blonde and had told the colorist she didn’t want extremely blonde highlights, but more of a caramel color.
When we went to the counter to pay, my daughter was given the price of $ 165! My jaw dropped! My daughter just shrugged. She was using her Christmas money to get this done and I felt bad that she was being charged this much. When we got outside, I asked if she was told how much it would be or why, and she said the colorist hadn’t mentioned it. So, I called back to the salon about 5 minutes after we left to get an explaination of why it was so much. Susie came to the phone and said the it start out at $ 90, they charged so much extra for the amount of product used and that made it $ 120, then she charge $ 45 for the toner!!! I told her that we were misquoted the price of $ 70 on the phone to start then. I may be wrong, but I feel like if a toning process is required, it should be included in the price of highlighting. After all, it’s not the client’s fault if the product used does not pull properly? Or at the very least, she should have been told how much something would be before performing the «extra» service. Even mechanics will let you know if they run into problems while repairing your vehicle that will cost more to fix??? My daughter has her Cosmo license and said that she could have gone to cosmoProf and purchased a toner and applied it herself for far less if she had been unhappy with the result.
Her highlights looked okay, but we were both very unhappy with the added cost and not being told before she actually did this step… and also with the fact that we were misquoted a starting price on the phone. $ 165 is just a lot to spend for what she had done when we have had the same thing done on much longer hair for much less.
I doubt we will use this salon again. :(

Had the worst haircut of my life. Doesn’t even deserve the one star, except color was good. The owner, supposedly experienced, butchered my hair so badly. Didn’t listen to me and had to be fixed by two other professionals, they both are dumbfounded by how badly this cut was done! Wouldn’t go back again to this salon.

I was a bit nervous to try out this salon, as It’s always a bit scary to try a new place after a move. But, I did some research and saw this salon had great reviews, so I just went for it! Nicole was amazing! I showed her exactly what I wanted… which I know is not easy, as I have very dark hair and like it very blonde. Plus, my hair is baby fine.
I still can’t believe the results. She figured out a way to «break» my dark base color, and also give me the creamy bright blonde highlights that I love. I’m still in shock how quick and enjoyable the experience was, with no brassiness… and she didn’t even need to tone it!
Overall, the salon had a warm and casual, yet professional atmosphere. All of the staff was very nice and asked me often if they could get me coffee, etc. Everything was very clean and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of service provided. My only suggestion would be to change the hair dryers, as it was a bit uncomfortable to sit high up on a bar stool. But, I loved the products Nicole used, and the completely relaxing and wonderful hair wash. Plus her attention to detail, making sure to get the color right up to my root, and making sure not to color over previous color to prevent breakage (she explained!) Sooooo appreciated!
I’m impressed, and will be sending all my friends to Nicole and Salon Kroma!

I loved my experience at Salon Kroma! Jamie was fantastic… a true professional who cared about the integrity of my hair, not just the immediate outcome. She is friendly, talented & reasonably priced. She listened, made me feel comfortable & my hair is healthy and beautiful!
The salon is not a «fancy-​pants» salon which makes you feel more at home & eliminates the fear of paying an arm & leg for a cut, highlight & color.

I was very pleased with this salon and my stylist Jessica. It has been a long time since I felt total confidence in my stylist. Everyone at the salon was friendly. Jessica was professional, personable and engaging. I am a quiet person, so unless someone speaks to me, I generally keep to myself. So many times stylists while being friendly, they will have conversations with other stylists and other regular customers. Jessica took the time to get to know me during the visit. On this visit I came for highlights and I love them! I will definitely be back for color.

I was very impressed by this salon. While it is a bit of a drive from where I live in Sanford, I believe it was worth it! I had called to make a Saturday appointment on the Thursday before and they were able to accommodation me no problem! The receptionist was very sweet and got me booked for a morning appointment which fit my schedule great. When I got there, one woman hung my coat up for me and Jessica took me to her station as she was my stylist. She understood exactly what I wanted (red low lights and my ‘normal’ haircut) and did my hair perfectly! She even used some texturizing techniques I had never seen before. I am very impressed with the salon as a whole and especially with Jessica! I will certainly go back again for my next haircut or dye! :-)
Update: After having my hair done at other places (not in NC), I noticed that the dye that was used when I went to Salon Kroma faded a lot quicker than others. For that, I changed my rating to 4 stars.

Thank you Jamie! Just had my first appointment with her and it was fantastic! I could have fallen asleep while she was shampooing my hair. She listened to my concerns with highlighting my hair and the color I wanted and she executed it perfectly! I already scheduled my next appointment in advance! Thanks!

Don’t be fooled by the wal-​mart plaza location. Salon Kroma is a gem. Blake always cut my hair exactly how I wanted it, even though I have a tough time explaining myself as far as haircuts are concerned. She would do my bangs perfect as well as my putting texture and layers. She even did a great job on my boyfriends hair. I’ve since moved to Denver, CO. It’s time for a new hair cut, and I am scared to try a new stylist.

I decided to try Salon Kroma in Cary, NC after reading reviews on citysearch. Emily was my hair stylist and she was very good about trying to understand just how it is that I wanted my hair to be cut. And I was very pleased with the end results.
The interior was not as attractive as I had expected (from viewing website) but in the end what counts the most is to walk away feeling good about how you look.
